Introduction
The Control Omni is an advanced remote control system with a built-in mobile phone,
adapted for people with disabilities. The Control Omni is controlled by direct touch on screen
but it is also possible to connect external switches to use a scanning function.
The Control Omni is programmable, which means that it can “learn”IR codes from other
remote control units such as those for a TV, DVD or stereo system. Control Omni is equipped
with a built-in radio transmitter for environmental control. The screen is dynamic, which
means information displayed can be arranged according to the users’ needs and
preferences.
Advantages of the Control Omni
Control Omni makes it possible:
to control the environment with both IR and radio.
to learn IR codes from most IR remote control units on the market.
to add an unlimited number of IR codes (it is only limited by the memory in the Control
Omni)
to create macros that can transmit both IR and radio.
to make phone calls and send SMS with the built-in mobile phone.
to create different pages with different numbers of functions.
to copy, move and exchange the location of functions.
to receive auditory feedback and use auditory scanning with recorded speech.
to connect one or more switches for scanning.
to select between several different scanning methods.
to add a delay before activation.
to select between several hundred pictures that are included.
to select between over 30 completed pages.
to make back-ups.
to easily select different languages for menus, help texts and prediction lists.
to use the alert function to attract attention.
for the user to make almost all settings himself or herself.

Starting your Control Omni for the first time
1. Insert the enclosed charger into the socket (see fig 1).
2. Charge until the battery indicator shows a green light. It is
important that your Control Omni is fully charged before use in
order for the battery to receive a maximum capacity. NOTE!
The batteries must be charged at regular intervals, once a day.
Do not let the batteries run out completely.
3. Start your Control Omni by pressing the stylus on the ON/OFF button (see fig 2).
Brief Demonstration
Once your Control Omni has started up it takes a few minutes
before it is ready for use. Select “Go to Start page”when this page is
shown (fig 3). Press the different buttons on the screen to get an
idea of how your Control Omni works (fig 4).
The buttons with symbols represent functions that can be controlled,
e.g. by pressing the telephone buttons you will reach a new page
where you can make a phone call or send an SMS (fig 5) with the
built-in mobile phone. By pressing the TV button the different
functions on the TV can be controlled.
Return to the Start page by pressing the button with the house .
You can continue pressing different buttons to find out how they
work. In order to test how the scanning function works, you can
connect a switch, see fig. 1 on page 5. The default setting for
Control Omni is to use automatic linear scanning with one switch.
Start the scanning by pressing on the switch. The next press
activates the function, which means, for example, that another page
is activated or an IR signal is sent.
The standard pages can be used as a starting point for adapting the
system for different users. Pages can be removed, and new pages
can be added. There are 28 completed pages that can be selected
and added. The images can be changed, functions can be added,
speech can be recorded, etc.

Settings
This section explains how to adjust various settings on your Control
Omni. The Control Omni has been designed so that it is possible to adjust
the settings simply, without a manual. In addition, help is available at
strategic points (Help). You can use the stylus to adjust the settings by
pressing the screen, or you can connect one switch and use scanning.
This means that users, engineers and others can adjust all the settings,
with only a few exceptions. You can gain access to new pages with new
menus by pressing the buttons on the screen. The word “press”in this
manual is used to denote either pressing the screen with the stylus or
using scanning. To go to Settings, press the image of the gearwheels.

Scanning Settings
Scanning Methods
Different scanning methods can be used with your Control Omni. Selections can be made
between one or two switches, automatic or manual scanning, row/column or linear scanning,
forced scanning or repetition. The default setting selected when your Control Omni is
delivered will be automatic linear scanning that is controlled by one switch.
The various scanning methods are as follows:
Automatic scanning: Your Control Omni continues to steps forward automatically following
a press on the switch.
Manual scanning: Your Control Omni steps forward one step at a time for each press of
the switch.
Forced scanning: It is possible to force automatic scanning by pressing the switch several
times.
Repetition: It is possible to make your Control Omni step automatically when using
manual scanning by keeping the switch pressed.
Row/column scanning: This can be either manual or automatic –the principle is the same
in both cases. First, steps are taken row for row and then buttons along the selected row
are stepped.
Linear scanning: This can be either manual or automatic –the
principle is the same in both cases. The buttons along row 1 are
first stepped, and then the stepping continues along row 2, etc.

Backups and Default settings
Making a Backup
It is extremely important to make a back-up after you have
created various pages and adjusted various settings. The
memory card delivered with your Control Omni must be placed
into the compartment on the back of the unit before a back-up
is made, see fig. 14.
If there is a previous backup on the memory card, it will be
overwritten. The back-up can be named by selecting
“Advanced”. If you do not name your file then the name will
automatically be “Backup”otherwise “Backup + name”. The path to the file is: “Movable
disc\Gewa\Omni\…” on the memory card.
Make a back-up by using the following procedure:
System Back-up Backup
Resetting from your backup
It is possible to make a reset, provided that you have made a back-up. See section Making a
Backup. The memory card delivered with your Control Omni must be placed into the
compartment at the back of the unit before a reset is made, see fig. 14. If a back-up has been
named it is found in “Advanced”. See previous section.
Make a reset by using the following procedure:
System Back-up Restore
Default settings
It is possible to return your Control Omni to its default setting in three different ways.
1. Factory restore: Returns the Control Omni to the conditions as they were when
delivered from the factory. Note! Personal images, contacts, SMS, settings, pages etc.
will be deleted. The backup file is not deleted.
2. Standard: The Start page and other pages are returned to the same condition as they
were when delivered from the factory but personal images, contacts, SMS, settings,
etc. will not be deleted. The backup file is not deleted.
3. Blank: Only one start page with four rows and three columns are included in this
alternative. There are no completed pages, no images and no IR codes. Use “Blank”if
you want to start from scratch and build your own pages. Personal images, contacts,
SMS, settings, etc. will not be deleted. The backup file is not deleted.
Return your Control Omni to its default setting by using the following procedure:

Managing Pages
Adding a Completed Page
Your Control Omni is delivered with standard pages that are
described in the chapter Brief Demonstration on page 6. An additional
30 completed pages are also included so that you don't have to
create pages from scratch. The pages included are suitable for
controlling different items that are to be controlled, such as telephone,
TV and DVD. Some pages come complete with GewaLink channels
and images, other pages have only images. Each image represents a
function, such as opening the door, switching the light on. These
functions are arranged to suit your needs, with respect to both logic
and frequency of use. A lot of time can be saved by using these
completed pages, rather than starting from scratch and building new
pages. Note that it is possible to browse both forwards and
backwards through your Control Omni when selecting pages. It is
also possible to modify a completed page. When you add a
completed page, a link is created on the first available button on the
starting page. If no button is available, a new row is added. The text
on the button can be exchanged for an image. See the section
Adding Images, page 28.
Add a completed page by using the following procedure:
Pages/buttons Add/remove a page Add a page
Add a completed page browse among the pages available Select this page
Creating a New Page
It is possible to create a page of your own, and to select the numbers of rows and columns.
When creating a new page, we recommend that you do not create a page with too many
buttons, not more than 6 rows and 4 columns. The Go to Start Page button is
automatically added at the top right position when a new page is created. It can be moved to
another location by following the procedure as described in the section Moving Buttons on
page 30.
Create a new page by using the following procedure:

Adding or Removing a Row or Column
It is possible to add and remove rows and columns on your Control Omni. The contents of
the actual buttons is removed when you remove a row or a column. If you want to retain the
actual content of a button or buttons, the content must be moved before removing the row or
column.
Add or remove a row or column by using the following procedure:
Pages/buttons Select page browse among the pages available
Select this page Properties Rows/columns Choose whether a row or a column
is to be removed or added. Choose which row or column that is to be removed or added.
Full Screen Scan
For each step of the scanning each button is wieved in full-screen size. This setting is
indvidual for each page and can be set to On or Off.
Add or remove a Full Screen Scan by using the following procedure:
Pages/buttons Select page browse among the pages available
Select this page Properties Full Screen Scan
Default setting: Off
Changing a Page Name
You may have several devices in different rooms. It is easy to get confused about which
pages belong to which rooms, when adding completed pages. It is possible to change the
name of a page to, for example, “TV bedroom”, “TV living room”, or “TV kitchen”.
Change the name of a page by using the following procedure:
Pages/buttons Select page browse among the pages available
Select this page Properties Change page name Write the new text.

19
Adding/removing buttons on a row
The number of buttons on a row can be changed, e.g. a row might have one button and the
next row 4 buttons.
Add/remove buttons by using the following procedure:
Pages/buttons Select page browse among the pages available
Select this page Properties Buttons select add or remove button.
Exporting Pages
It may sometimes be necessary to be able to copy a page that you have created, such as a
page for a TV in one room to a page for a TV in another room. Or you might have created a
page that is useful for other users. The page must be exported to make this possible.
Note! There are three things you should be aware of when exporting a page:
1. Give the new page a new name, incase your Control Omni needs to be reset. If the page
has the same name as one of the completed pages on your Control Omni it will be
overwritten when it is reset.
2. Always make a backup when an exported page has been created for a different user.
Thus the page will always be saved on the memory card.
3. If you want to save the page for future use, you should copy it to a PC. The next section
describes how to copy a page to a PC.
Export a page by using the following procedure:
Pages/buttons Export page browse among the pages
Export this page Export page Select whether to export with a new name or to
overwrite an existing file Follow the instructions given.

20
Copying a Page in your Control Omni to a PC
It is sometimes necessary to send a page by e-mail or share it with
another user, or just save it for future use. Do as follows to copy a
page to a PC.
1. Make a backup copy on your Control Omni in order to save the
settings, see the section “Making a Back-up”, Page 16.
2. Remove the memory card by pressing and releasing the memit
with the stylus.
3. Remove the memory card with your fingers and put it into the
memory card adapter that is delivered with Control Omni.
4. Connect the memory card adapter to the USB port on the PC.
Note! The memory card adapter may be facing the wrong way
when inserted in the USB port.
5. On your PC, go to the File Manager, browse to the memory card, go to file called “Pages”.
The path to file is: Computer/Removable disc/Gewa/Omni backup/pages.
6. Copy the file.
