uOnly connect cables to sockets that are intended for this purpose. Only connect
approved cables and accessories.
uClean the device with a soft, dry cloth. Aggressive cleansing agents and solvents are
not suitable.
uProtect the device from damp, dust, aggressive liquids and steam, and do not use it
in wet rooms (e.g. bathrooms) or in areas where there is risk of explosions.
uNever open the device or the plug-in power supply. For safety reasons, the device
may only be opened by authorised service personnel.
uAlways hand over the user guide when you give your device to another person.
uThese devices are intended for use inside buildings only.
uThe devices are defined as professional IT equipment. Keep the devices away from

Introduction
The Gigaset Optical LAN Adapter is an easy-to-lay substitute LAN cable, which provides
a high data throughput rate. The following scenario shows one possible application:
Gigaset Optical LAN Adapter supports full-duplex Ethernet data transmission at
100 Mbit/s via a Duplex POF cable (Polymer Optical Fibre) with a diameter of 1 mm.
POF is a polymer optical fibre that transmits data. POF offers the following advantages:

Setting up the device
The two Gigaset Optical LAN Adapters can be set up in any suitable location. You should,
however, adhere to the following guidelines:
uOnly operate the Gigaset Optical LAN Adapter inside buildings within the tempera-
ture range 0 to +40°C. Do not place the Gigaset Optical LAN Adapter in the vicinity
of heat sources. Do not place any objects on the devices.
uA 230V~ electrical socket must be available for both Gigaset Optical LAN Adapter at
the installation site.
uPlace the Gigaset Optical LAN Adapter on a non-slip surface. The device casing will
not normally leave any marks on the surfaces on which it stands. However, you must
take special care with scratch-sensitive surfaces.
uDo not place the Gigaset Optical LAN Adapter on top of furniture that could be
affected by the heat emitted by the device.
uLay the cables in such a way that no-one can trip over them. Do not place any objects
on the lines.
uYou can also mount your Gigaset Optical LAN Adapter on the wall.

Cutting the POF cable to size
ìCut the POF cable supplied with the device to the approximate length you require
with a pair of scissors, adding a few centimetres.
ìSeparate the two wires at the end of the cable.
ìFor an exact cut, use the cable cutter to cut the POF cable to the required length. To
do this, press the upper part of the cutter downwards (arrow).
Connecting the POF cable
ìPlace the two Gigaset Optical LAN Adapters in the required positions.
ìLay the POF cable.
Please note the following advice before installing the POF cable in your home.
The transparent fiber core transmitting the data in your POF cable is protected from
external damages by a plastic coating. To ensure a smooth operation of your devices
when using the POF cable, you should protect the cable from mechanical or chemical
stresses which could damage or destroy its plastic coating.
You can easily lay the POF cable at home under carpets, behind shelves, or in the edge
between walls and the floor. Doing so, please ensure that you do not place any heavy
items on the POF cable and that you do not bend it down to less than 25 mm.
For the installation of the POF cable on plain surfaces, all mechanical methods are suit-
able which do not cave or crimp the cable and ensure an adherence to the given bend-
ing radius. Avoid the attachment with staples, nails, or similar metallic items that
expose the POF cable to high pressure during and after the installation process.
Solvent-free adhesives and silicone are generally suitable for the fixing and installation
of the POF cable. Adhesives with solvents (toluol, xylene, gasoline, etc.) or alcohol,

however, can damage and destroy the plastic materials of the POF cable and therefore
may not be used. Avoid likewise the use of hot-melt glue, since extreme temperature
changes could likewise damage the transparent fiber core of your POF cable.
ìNow insert the POF cable in the socket on the first Gigaset Optical LAN Adapter, then
the other end in the socket on the second Gigaset Optical LAN Adapter, as shown.
ìPush the clips on both Gigaset Optical LAN Adapters up in order to secure the two
wires.
Note
Do not bend the POF cable prior to laying it (e.g. to fit in room corners) since this
could cause permanent bends and damage the cable. The bend radius must not be
less than 25 mm.
Note
One of the two wires in the POF cable has dots on it so that you can distinguish
between them.

Connecting the Ethernet cable
ìConnect your Ethernet devices (e. g. router, set-top box) via the Ethernet cable. Eth-
ernet cables are included in the delivery package.
Connecting the device to the power supply
ìConnect the two Gigaset Optical LAN Adapters to the sockets via the enclosed power
supplies.
Note
If the cables are connected correctly, the power and optical LEDs on both Gigaset
Optical LAN Adapters light up. If the connected Ethernet devices (e.g. router, set-top
box) are also switched on and an Ethernet connection has been established, the LAN
LEDs also light up, see page 1.

Troubleshooting
This section describes some problems that commonly occur and how to solve them. The
different LED displays indicate some of the errors. If you have checked the LEDs and still
cannot solve your connection problems, you should consult the sections specified in the
following table. You will find more help on the Internet at
www.siemens.com/gigasetcustomercare.
Authorisation
The CE mark certifies conformity of the device with the relevant harmonised standards
of the LV Directive 73/23/EEC and EMC Directive 89/336/EEC.

Symptom Possible cause and remedial actions
The optical LED does not
light up or blink.
The POF cable is not connected correctly.
ìConnect the POF cable as described in the installa-
tion instructions, see page 4.
The POF cable is bent or damaged in some other way.
ìCheck the POF cable. Remove any bends or, if nec-
essary, replace the POF cable. Contact Customer
Care if the POF cable is irreparably damaged (see
page 8).
The Gigaset Optical LAN Adapter power supply is not
connected correctly.
ìConnect the power supply correctly.
No LAN connection
between the connected
devices.
The LAN settings on the connected devices are not cor-
rect.
ìCorrect the LAN settings. Check the LAN connec-
tion by making a direct connection via Ethernet
cable.

Guarantee Certificate (United Kingdom)
Without prejudice to any claim the user (customer) may have in relation to the dealer or
retailer, the customer shall be granted a manufacturer's Guarantee under the conditions
set out below:
uIn the case of new devices and their components exhibiting defects resulting from
manufacturing and/or material faults within 24 months of purchase, Siemens shall,
at its own option and free of charge, either replace the device with another device
reflecting the current state of the art, or repair the said device. In respect to parts
subject to wear and tear (including but not limited to, batteries, keypads, casing),
this warranty shall be valid for six months from the date of purchase.
uThis Guarantee shall be invalid if the device defect is attributable to improper treat-
ment and/or failure to comply with information contained in the user manuals.
uThis Guarantee shall not apply to or extend to services performed by the authorised
dealer or the customer themselves (e.g. installation, configuration, software down-
loads). User manuals and any software supplied on a separate data medium shall be
excluded from the Guarantee.
uThe purchase receipt, together with the date of purchase, shall be required as evi-
dence for invoking the Guarantee. Claims under the Guarantee must be submitted
within two months of the Guarantee default becoming evident.
uOwnership of devices or components replaced by and returned to Siemens shall vest
in Siemens.
uThis Guarantee shall apply to new devices purchased in the European Union.
The Guarantee is issued by Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices
GmbH & Co. KG, Schlavenhorst 66, D-46395 Bocholt, Germany.
uAny other claims resulting out of or in connection with the device shall be excluded
from this Guarantee. Nothing in this Guarantee shall attempt to limit or exclude a
Customers Statutory Rights, nor the manufacturer's liability for death or personal
injury resulting from its negligence.
uThe duration of the Guarantee shall not be extended by services rendered under the
terms of the Guarantee.
uInsofar as no Guarantee default exists, Siemens reserves the right to charge the cus-
tomer for replacement or repair.
uThe above provisions do not imply a change in the burden of proof to the detriment
of the customer.

uIn the case of new devices and their components exhibiting defects resulting from
manufacturing and/or material faults within 24 months of purchase, Siemens shall,
at its own option and free of charge, either replace the device with another device
reflecting the current state of the art, or repair the said device. In respect of parts sub-
ject to wear and tear (including but not limited to, batteries, keypads, casing), this
warranty shall be valid for six months from the date of purchase.
uThis Guarantee shall be invalid if the device defect is attributable to improper care or
use and/or failure to comply with information contained in the user manuals. In par-
ticular claims under the Guarantee cannot be made if:
uThe device is opened (this is classed as third party intervention)
uRepairs or other work done by persons not authorised by Siemens.
uComponents on the printed circuit board are manipulated
uThe software is manipulated
uDefects or damage caused by dropping, breaking, lightning or ingress of moisture.
This also applies if defects or damage was caused by mechanical, chemical, radio
interference or thermal factors (e.g.: microwave, sauna etc.)
uDevices fitted with accessories not authorised by Siemens
uThis Guarantee shall not apply to or extend to services performed by the authorised
dealer or the customer themselves (e.g. installation, configuration, software down-
loads). User manuals and any software supplied on a separate data medium shall be
excluded from the Guarantee.
uThe purchase receipt, together with the date of purchase, shall be required as evi-
dence for invoking the Guarantee. Claims under the Guarantee must be submitted
within two months of the Guarantee default becoming evident.
uOwnership of devices or components replaced by and returned to Siemens shall vest
in Siemens.
uThis Guarantee shall apply to new devices purchased in the European Union. For
Products sold in the Republic of Ireland the Guarantee is issued by Siemens Home and
Office Communication Devices GmbH & Co. KG, Schlavenhorst 66, D-46395 Bocholt,
Germany.
uAny other claims resulting out of or in connection with the device shall be excluded
from this Guarantee. Nothing in this Guarantee shall attempt to limit or exclude a
Customers Statutory Rights, nor the manufacturer’s liability for death or personal
injury resulting from its negligence.
uThe duration of the Guarantee shall not be extended by services rendered under the
terms of the Guarantee.
uInsofar as no Guarantee default exists, Siemens reserves the right to charge the cus-
tomer for replacement or repair.
uThe above provisions does not imply a change in the burden of proof to the detriment
of the customer.
