Intelligente Datenlogger
1 Important Notes
1.1 Safety and Hazard Advice
In order to avoid personal injuries and damage to property, you must read and understand the following
safety instructions and hazard warnings prior to installation and use of this device. Keep this documentation
(and manual) always near the device.
1.1.1 Proper Use and Intended Purpose
The GLA618 is an extension device for the G.i.N. data logger, which is mainly used in the automotive and
commercial vehicles industries. The device is an AUX+splitter designed for industrial needs that can connect
multiple additional devices to a data logger via the AUX+ interface.
The device may only be operated in a closed state. In particular, PCBs must not be visible. The device may
only be operated according to the instructions and descriptions of this manual. Only suitable electric power
supply designed for the device and accessories manufactured or approved by G.i.N. GmbH may be used.
The device is exclusively designed for use by skilled personnel as its operation may result in serious
personal injuries and damage to property. Therefore, only those persons may operate the device who have
understood the possible effects of the actions which may be caused by the device; are specifically trained in
handling the device, bus systems and the system intended to be influenced; and have sufficient experience
in using the device safely.
To ensure the operation of the GLA618, connected cables should not exceed a length of 30 m.
1.1.2 Hazards
The device may control and/or otherwise influence the behaviour of electronic control units. Serious hazards
for life, body and property may arise, in particular, without limitation, by interventions in safety relevant
systems (e.g. by deactivating or otherwise manipulating the engine management, steering, airbag and/or
braking system) and/or if the device is operated in public areas (e.g. public traffic, airspace). Therefore, you
must always ensure that the device is used in a safe manner. This includes, inter alia, the ability to put the
system in which the device is used into a safe state at any time (e.g. by „emergency shutdown“), in
particular, without limitation, in the event of errors or hazards.
Comply with all safety standards and public regulations which are relevant for the operation of the system.
Before you operate the system in public areas, it should be tested on a site which is not accessible to the
public and specifically prepared for performing test drives in order to reduce hazards.
1.1.3 Disclaimer
Claims based on defects and liability claims against G.i.N. GmbH are excluded to the extent damage or
errors are caused by improper use of the device or use not according to its intended purpose. The same
applies to damage or errors arising from insufficient training or lack of experience of personnel using the
device.
2 Certification
G.i.N. Gesellschaft für industrielle Netzwerke GmbH has ISO 9001:2008 certification. The ISO standard is a
globally recognized standard.

6.2 AUX+Connector
The AUX+In connector is provided to connect to the data logger.
The 8 AUX+Out connectors are provided to connect to up to 8 GiN extension devices (e.g. GLX504 and
GLX427).
The connector assignment of these connectors is as follows (view of the connector contacts of the device):

Table 2
» The +5V line supplies the 5V voltage through a max. 400mA electronical fuse, as long as the GLA618 is
switched on.
» The sync line is used to synchronize with the data logger (see chap. 8) and for waking up the GLA618 via
this data logger.
» The output VBAT on AUX+Out provides max. 1.5 A and is supplied from the GLA618 power connector.
» All lines on the AUX+connector are equipped with filter elements for interference suppression.
» If extension devices are powered via the AUX+Out interface
, the supply voltage of the GLA618 must not
exceed the max. allowed supply voltage of the connected extension devices.
» Connecting an extension device to one of the AUX+Out interfaces during operation can lead to
triggering
the fuse. Pressing the control button resets the fuse.
6.3 Relay Contacts and Fuse
The relay contact (make contact, manufacturer's designation: G6C-1114P-US 3VCD) is toggled if the +5V of
the AUX+Out is switched on. This is the case if one of the following 10 wake sources is active:
» +5V line of AUX+In (from data logger)
» Sync line of AUX+In (from data logger)
» Wake lines from the 8 AUX+Outs (from extension device)

The following figure shows the maximum switching current of the relay in dependence of the voltage:
Figure 4
» The fuse must be selected in a way that the maximum switching current for the used voltage is not
exceeded.
» Please note that operation of the switching c
ontact using voltages (DC > 58 V or AC > 50 V) is not
permitted.
6.4 LEDs
The GLA618 is equipped with a three-coloured (green, orange and red) status LEDs to check the operating
state.
The GLA618 has 8 single-colour (green) LEDs for the 8 AUX+Outs. Every LED shows the status of the fuse
of the respective connector (LED1 for AUX+Out 1 … LED8 for AUX+Out 8).
The status of the LEDs is defined as follows:

1: The application is a part of the firmware which is running during normal operation of the GLA618. The
condition that no application is available could be prompted by a failed firmware update, e.g. Mini-USB or
power supply interrupted during update process.

7 CAN Interface
The GLA618 has a fixed CAN interface, which is equipped with a TJA1042T/3 CAN transceiver (high-speed).
This CAN interface is not able to wake up the device and is used for time synchronisation of the connected
externsion devices with the data logger. This CAN bus is terminated with a 120 Ohm resistor.

8 Switching On and Off the GLA618
» The GLA618 is switched on by connecting the power supply and switched off by interrupting it.
» During sleep mode, the GLA618 wakes up when the control button is pressed.
» During sleep mode, the GLA618 wakes up via the data logger.
» During sleep mode, the GLA618 wakes up via the extension device (see chap. 6.3).
» Per default, the GLA618 is configured that it stays awake for 5 seconds after the data logger enters sleep
mode.

11 Technical Data
The data specified in this section must be adhered to at all times. Damage to the GLA618 can otherwise
occur, and this in turn can create conditions on the connected wires that are outside specified ranges (e.g.
overvoltage). Operating the device near these limits over long stretches of time can also lead to damage or a
shortened durability.
11.1 Operating Condition
All values specified are valid for the full temperature range from -40 to +80°C.
