Battery/microcassette compartment
Insert batteries/rechargeable batte-
ries: press and hold down the green
"LID LOCK" button and pull off the
cover. Insert a cassette: slide open
the cover to its end stop.To remove
the microcassette tilt the machine.
Safety lock
Press against the red or green end.
Red mark visible: Safety lock of the
slide-switch is activated.
Tape speed
Set tape speed with the "SPEED"
slide-switch at the back.
Tape counter
Reset the tape counter: press
the "O-SET" button next to
the tape counter below the
sliding cover.

Recording
Sensitivity for voice-activated
start/stop mode: "HIGH", "LOW" or
"OFF".

Activate recording: press the red
"DICTATE" button (locks in).
ŁRecording-start: set slide-switch to
"START".
Recording-pause: set the slide-
switch to "STOP".
Playback
ŁPlayback-start: set the slide-switch
to "START".
Playback-stop: set the slide-switch
to "STOP".
|Volume: set with the "VOL" adjuster.
Fast forward and rewind
ŁŁ Fast forward (with sound): set the
slide-switch to "FFWD".
ĵĵ Rewind (with sound): set the slide-
switch to "REWIND".

Battery / rechargeable battery operation
Battery/rechargeable battery indicator (and
recording indicator): lights up on recording.
Goes out if the battery/rechargeable battery
gets weak. Recording is still possible until the
motor stops running (sound signal).
Rechargeable battery operation
The rechargeable batteries 662* are recharged
by means of the mains/charging unit 678CW*
inside the set.
The charging time is approximately 18 hours.
During charging, the set remains fully operative.
Warning
The mains unit is designed for use with the
GRUNDIG Dh 2028 only. Use the mains unit
"678 CW UC"for the USA and Canada, the
mains unit "678 CW GB"for Great Britain, and
"678 CW"for the rest of Europe. Do not use the
mains unit if the plugs and cables are damaged.
Attention
Remove the batteries from the set when they
are exhausted or if the set is not to be used
for a long time.
Grundig accepts no responsibility for dama-
ge caused by leaking batteries.

Battery/rechargeable battery compartment
Press and hold down the ĵ
l
LID LOCK
button, then remove sliding cover
from the unit.
Inserting batteries: Ensure correct
polarity (+/–); see figure p.
Inserting rechargeable batteries:
Observe correct polarity and position. Insert
the rechargeable battery with the removed
sheathing into the compartment with the late-
ral charging contact; see fig. ü. Refit and close
sliding cover.
Note on Environmental Protection
Do not throw exhausted batteries in the house-
hold refuse. Hand over the old batteries to your
dealer or public collection points when buying
new ones.
Operation with the mais unit 678 CW
See Fig. +at the beginning of this booklet.
The batteries in the set are switched off; if
rechargeable batteries 662* are fitted, they will
be charged.
Warning
Please observe the hints given in the
"Battery/rechargeable battery operation"
chapter.

Connecting an earphone
Connect the earphone plug into the
ysocket.
See chapter “Technical Data“.
This switches off the built-in loud-
speaker.
Tape speed
The tape speed can be selected with
the slide-switch "1.2 2.4 SPEED" at
the back.
Note: With a tape speed of 1.2 cm/sec, the
double recording capacity is
obtained. However, the recording
quality will be reduced accordingly.
The tape speed must be the same
for recording and playback.

Recording
Each new recording automatically erases any
previous recordings on that part of the tape.
Speaking distance approximately 2 - 4 inches /
5 - 10 cm. In the case of high background
noise, decrease the speaking distance.

ŁSet the slide-switch to "ŁSTART".
– The recording indicator lights up.
– The tape starts running.
– If no microcassette is loaded or the tape end
is reached, a sound signal is emitted.
Recording-pause
Set the slide-switch to "STOP".
– The recording indicator goes out.
– The recording button "ļ

DICTATE" remains
locked in.
Voice-activated start/stop
(Voice activation, VA)
When making pauses when
speaking (approximately 3 secs),
recording will be interrupted. When
speaking again, recording will be
resumed.

Conference recording
The housing base is designed so
that the dictation machine can verti-
cally be placed on a table. This en-
sures that dictations are recorded in
equal quality from all directions.
HIGH When the slide-switch "VA" at the
back is set to the “HIGH“ sensitivity
position, the machine switches the
built-in microphone to recording
already at lower noise levels.
Dictation
LOW When the slide-switch "VA" is set to
the "LOW" sensitivity position, the
machine switches the built-in
microphone to recording only at
higher noise levels.
No voice activation
OFF If you set the slide-switch "VA" to
"OFF", recording will not be
interrupted during pauses in speech.
The recording sensitivity of the
built-in microphone is low
(Dictation).

Tape heads and recording mechanism
You should check regularly within the
microcassette compartment for dust and for
dirt caused by tape usage.
Cleaning tape-contacting parts:
Rubber pressure roller A
Capstan shaft B
Tape head C
Erase head D
Pivot lever E
We recommend that you clean these parts with
a soft cotton swab that has been dipped in
cleaning alcohol.
Never use metal or hard objects!
Open the tape compartment and remove the
microcassette.
– Switch the machine on recording-start.
A warning signal sounds as no cassette is
loaded!
– Push the pivot lever Efully against the cas-
sette compartment.
– Clean the tape-contacting parts:
rubber pressure roller A, capstan shaft B,
tape head Cand erase head D.

Housing
Clean only with a soft cloth suitable for
removing dust.
Polishing and cleaning agents can damage the
surface.
Liquids should not be allowed to penetrate the
inside of the machine.
What you should know
This portable dictation machine functions with-
out limitations at an ambient temperature of up
to 95˚ F / 35˚ C.
When powered with batteries, you can use this
dictating machine at temperatures between
95˚ F / 35˚ C and 131˚ F / 55˚ C.
Malfunctions may occur in this case, but these
cannot cause damage to the machine.
Please contact your dealer if malfunctions
occur.
