Description
The HBSUSB9 Cong unit provides a USB powered interface between
a Windows computer and H&B Sensors HBS4400 and HBS4600
process instruments.
Using a standard PC USB port the module enables the user
to interrogate their equipment, including re-ranging and re-
conguration using a Windows based interface.
Receiving and unpacking
Please inspect the packaging and instrument thoroughly for any signs of
transit damage. If the instrument has been damaged, please notify your
supplier immediately.
Precautions
Do not allow the two terminal/ molex connections on the output of the
module to short together. Whilst the ATEX/UKEX use Cong is protected
by a self-resetting circuit certain models of PC are not protected against
high current draw from their USBports and damage could be caused if
the user is not careful.
Do not attempt to configure anything but approved configurable
equipment; doing so could damage the USB Congurator as well as the
host computer.
Connecting the USBconfiguration module to powered equipment
incorrectly can permanently damage the USBconfiguration module or
the HBS4400/HBS4600.
ATEX / UKEX approved communications module for HBS4400, HBS4600 for use in safe
area only.

Important -
CE & Safety Requirements
Products must be used inside a suitable safe area providing
environmental protection to IP65 or greater.
To maintain CE EMC requirements, USBcable must be less than
1 metre.
The product contains no serviceable parts, or internal
adjustments. No attempt must be made to repair this product.
Faulty units must be returned lo supplier for repair.
This product must be installed by a qualied person. All electrical
wiring must be carried out in accordance with the appropriate
regulations for the place of installation. Before attempting
any electrical connection work, please ensure all supplies are
switched off.

Configuration - Only to be performed in the safe area
Note: - The HBS4400 & HBS4600 can be configured whilst connected and powered, but a portable battery powered computer must be
used to avoid the effects of ground loops if the (4 to 20) mA loop is grounded. This may damage the HBS4400 & HBS4600.

Operation
To use your USBCong module you will rst need to install use Speedlink software, which is available as a free download from
www.hbsensors.com/support/downloads
Connect the ATEX/UKEX USBconguration module to the PC via the USB lead.
The software will recognise when the ATEX/UKEX USBmodule is attached. This may take a few minutes the rst time the ATEX / UKEX
USBModule is attached while the software drivers are loaded.
Connect the unit you wish to congure to the USBmodule via the appropriate leads (SeeFig 3), refer to the instruments user guide for the
connection details.
In the use Speedlinksoftware select the type of instrument to be configured, the USBmodule will now communicate with the instrument
and present the correct screen for configuring the instrument.

Visit hbsensors.com to download latest version
of USBSpeedLink.
Once software Is Installed remove protection
cover from device port, plug In configurator
plugs in to device ports and connect PC to
congurator using USBcable.
In USBSpeedLinksoftware, select Model
type from “Field Product-In Head TX”menu.
For further Information on configuration
pleaseopen the help menu on the product
configuration screen.On completion of
conguration remove USBcable and replace
protective cover over socket

Specialconditions for use
The HBSUSB9Cong is only to be connected to a Windows
personal computer or Windows laptop type computer
The HBSUSB9 and connected computer are only to be used
in the safe area
Generalinformation
The HBSUSB9cong unit contains no serviceable parts or internal
adjustments. No attempt must be made to repair this product.
Faulty units must be returned for repairs.
The ATEX / UKEX USB Conguration module is powered completely
from the USBport on your computer; you do not require an external
power supply for configuration. The USB Configuration module
will power the instrument connected to it during the configuration
process for conguration only. To take live readings and perform
certain adjustments the HBS4400 or HBS4600 may need to be
connected to a loop supply, refer to the HBS4400 and HBS4600
documentation for further information.
It is not recommended to leave the module plugged into a laptop
computer for long periods of time when the laptop isrunning on
batteries as this will aect battery life adversely, especially if an
instrument is left connected to the configurator.
