INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. The closed-loop should be pressurised to 100 kPa only after the geyser’s main
volume is pressurised, to prevent damage to the heat exchanger.
2. Antifreeze or propylene glycol protection is essential, as a single freeze event
can destroy a collector. (Even in warm areas, collector tubes have frozen and
burst during hard winter freezes).
3. It is necessary to install a pressure reduction valve (not included) if the water
supply pressure exceeds 400 kPa. The pressure control and expansion valve
should be 400 kPa.
4. If a tempering (mixing) valve (not included) is installed between the hot water
outlet of the geyser and the main hot water supply pipe to the house, the
tempering valve should be regulated to 55˚C.
5. To ensure safe and effective operation, the system shall be installed, maintained
and repaired strictly in accordance with SANS 10254 and 10106. Failure to do so

6. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with
reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities. Or lack of experience and
knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning
installation and/or use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
7. The safety valve (TP valve) must be mounted on the geyser before use.
8. A pressure and expansion relief valve must be fitted.
9. The geyser is fitted with an immersed electric heating element that will be
damaged if operated in air without warranty coverage. The geyser must be filled
with water before the electricity is switched on to the element.
10. The geyser is fitted with a thermostat, which incorporates a cut-out safety
device.
11. To prevent risk of hot water scalding it is recommended to install a thermostatic
mixing valve. The valve limits the hot water going out of the geyser to the home
to 55˚C, protects the hot water pipes and taps, and is especially important for
the safety of young children and the elderly.
12. Corrosion is usually minimised through pH control and corrosion inhibitor use;
however corrosion problems are unlikely to occur in air-free closed-loop systems.
13. The geyser outlet acts a vent, and must not be connected to any form of tap or
fitting which is not recommended by the installation instructions and/or
schematics.
14. Only licensed personnel should install and maintain the solar water heating
system. All appropriate safety precautions - as per local building regulations,
local bylaws and national regulations - must be strictly adhered to. Precautions
to be followed include all the following: ladders must be securely positioned and
anchored before use; ropes must be of the appropriate load-bearing
specification and must be checked regularly for fraying; safety gloves must be
used when lifting and mounting the system to/from the roof; safety goggles
should be used when any welding work is being performed; a safety anchor of
the appropriate load bearing specification should be permanently fastened to a
roof truss and should be used to harness workers on the roof; appropriate gloves
and/or bibs should be used when handling thermal transfer fluid.

1. Mount the system’s stand in a shade-free area, while making sure the collector’s
location is facing north, with up to a 20˚ deviation east to west.
2. Place the geyser in its cradle on the stand.
3. Place the collectors on the stand facing north at the stand’s angle - 15-35˚ to the
horizontal plane. The angle should be equal to latitude +100. Cover the panel.
4. Connect the closed-loop connections between the collector and the geyser
according to the installation schematic.
5. Connect the cold water supply line and hot water to user line as marked on the
schematic.
6. Make sure that all systems’ connections are fastened.
7. Fill the geyser with potable water and pressurize to 400 kPa.
8. Check carefully for leaks and fix if any.
9. Fill the closed-loop by using the filling valve until solution discharges freely from
the upper point. Put the relief valve back in place.
10. Check carefully for leaks and fix if any.
11. Make sure the pipes going out of the collector to the geyser are on a constant
slope upwards.
12. Uncover the panel.
The system will now operate properly when the collector is exposed to the sun.
1. Air bubbles in the closed-loop might hinder or stop the thermosyphon action.
2. The geyser may be installed in a high profile or in a low profile configuration;
however, an installation in a low profile (i.e. the collector is partly above the
geyser) requires a low profile valve to prevent reverse thermosyphon action
during the night.
3. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined propylene glycol to be
“generally recognised as safe” for use in food, cosmetics, and medicines.

4. Best performance achieved with well insulated pipes. The hot line from the
collectors must be insulated to reduce heat losses.
5. Water may drip from the discharge pipe of the expansion control valve, and this
pipe must be left open to the atmosphere.
6. The discharge pipes connected to the expansion control valve and the safety
valve (TP valve) are to be of metal and installed in a continuously downward
direction with the outlets being left open in a frost-free atmosphere.
7. The geyser is designed to be installed in a horizontal position only - a vertical
installation is unsafe and will also invalidate the warranty.
8. The geyser must not be wall mounted—a wall mounting is unsafe and will also
invalidate the warranty.
MAINTENANCE
1. Checking for leaks ever 6 months is recommended.
2. Replace anti-freeze propylene glycol solution every 3 years.
3. The sacrificial anode needs to be maintained in order to protect the geyser
from damage. It should be replaced once every three-to-four years, or more
often if there are aggressive local water conditions.
4. Check the system’s pressure every 6 months. Pressure reduction to less than
100 kPa might indicate the existence of a leak. If necessary pressurise again
and check carefully for leaks.
5. Flush a bit of water through the pressure relief valves every 6 months to ensure
valves’ proper operation.
6. Wash the collectors’ glass once a year if very dirty.
7. The thermostat and the element must only be re-fitted with identical or
equivalent types.
8. In order to drain the geyser, release the pressure from the closed-loop by
opening the pressure relief valve of the closed-loop. Close the main water
supply to the geyser. Open the hot water exit or a hot water tap in the house
for air to enter the geyser.

GUARANTEE
The warranty only applies to defects, which have arisen solely due to faulty workmanship
and materials during the manufacturing process. Any damage caused to the solar
collector panel due to propylene glycol not being used in an indirect system,
is not covered by the warranty.
The solar collector glass is not covered by the warranty.
The warranty of the installation is the responsibilty of the installer.
