What is Mul-Link?
The Mul-Link allows you to control mulple
Heatmiser WiFi thermostats via free smartphone
applicaon.
Up to 32 thermostats in total can be controlled.
The Mul-Link acts as a gateway to your WiFi
Network by taking care of the thermostat port
forwarding, this drascally simplies the setup
procedure.
2

Step 1
Download and install the network ulity for the
Mul-Link from our web site.
www.heatmiser.co.uk/wi
Step 2
Connect the Mul-Link to your pc with the USB
cable provided, this will power the device from the
USB port & will allow you to test the Wi-Fi
connecon.
On the Ulity press Read to view the current
Mul-Link conguraon.
Seng up the Mul-Link
3

Step 3
Enter the SSID, Security Type and Security Code of your wireless network.
These sengs can be found in your wireless router, consult your router manual for more
informaon.
Security Types explained
There are currently 4 methods of securing your wireless connecon in common use
These are :
OPEN/DISABLED (not recommended)
W.E.P. (lowest security level)
W.P.A. (medium security)
W.P.A.2. (highest security)
Your choice of security sengs in the Mul-Link must match the seng in your router.
Quite oen you will nd WPA and WPA2 as a single opon in the router, this is perfectly normal
the router knows which one to use, and you can therefore set the Mul-Link up using either one.
4

...Security Types Connued
The password can be up to 63 characters in length including spaces _. / \ characters.
The W.E.P. opon is not as simple, some routers generate a hidden password from a pass phrase
whilst others require a 10 or 26 digit hex password and won’t accept anything else.
Your Mul-Link ulity can deal with both opons.
The following restricons apply:
A hex password can only be made up of the numbers 0 to 9 and the leers a to f, lower case only.
Hex passwords can only be 10 characters or 26 characters in length.
If a passphrase is used it must be either 5 or 13 characters in length but can be any leer or
number.
Your Mul-Link will automacally calculate the same hidden password your router creates from
the same phrase.
You will nd most routers have these same restricons.
5

Step 4
It is likely that your network will be congured to operate on a DHCP basis – this means your
router automacally issues an IP address to a device that successfully connects to the network.
Your Mul-Link needs a xed IP address in order for local and remote access to operate,
The xed IP address needs to be outside of the router DHCP range, so you will need to set this up
manually.
Log into your wireless router and navigate to the LAN sengs page. You should see an
opon for DHCP setup. This should detail the IP range that can be assigned to devices
connecng to the network.
As an example, you may have an IP starng range 192.168.1.1 and ending 192.168.1.99
This would mean you can safely provide your Mul-Link the IP address 192.168.1.100 as no other
devices will be assigned this address by the router.
6

If your DHCP range is from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.253 you cannot use 254 or above, you will
need to change the DHCP to a lower range, take care not to change any of the rst 3 sets of num-
bers.
Tip! When seng up an IP address, the rst three sets of numbers must be the same as the
router IP, the fourth set must not be used elsewhere on the network.
Step 5
Enter the Subnet mask for the network, this informaon can be found in your wireless router.
Step 6
You need to enter the IP address of your gateway and DNS.
In most cases, this is the IP address of your wireless router.
7

Step 7
App Pin Access
The access PIN is required when you are using the mul-
zone app and helps secure your system. This PIN number
should be the same number that has been used for the
WiFi Thermostats on the system.
Step 8
Adding WiFi thermostats to the Multi-Link
Click the Add buon, now enter the room tle and the
last three digits of the WiFi thermostat IP address, then
press OK.
This zone will then appear in the window at the boom
of the ulity.
Repeat this process for all of the WiFi thermostats on the
system.
You have the opon to select any of the zones in this
window and Edit or Delete if necessary. 8

Step 9
Checking WiFi Connection
Once you have entered the details of your WiFi network
& added the zones to the system press Apply.
“Update successful” will appear at the boom on the
ulity.
Disconnect the USB cable from the Mul-Link, wait 5
seconds then reconnect it.
Once the Mul-Link has rebooted wait approximately
one minute, the Wi-Fi LED on the Mul-Link will light up
indicang that the Mul-Link has successfully connected
to your WiFi network.
9

Step 10
App Connection
Once the Mul-Link has successfully connected to your network you can now disconnect the USB
cable & power the Mul-Link via the power supply provided.
Launch the Mul-Zone App & enter the IP address & PIN informaon.
The LAN IP will be the xed IP address you assigned to the Mul-Link.
The WAN IP will be your xed IP address for your network or your dynamic DNS address, when
connecng remotely.
Once this informaon has been entered press Connect, this will then connect to the Mul-Link &
display the WiFi thermostats on your system.
10

Step 11
Port Forwarding for Remote Access
In order to access your system from outside your home, you need to forward port 8082 in your
router to the IP of the Mul-Link.
For more informaon on port forwarding, consult your router operang manual.
11

Troubleshooting
The Mul-Link does not connect to the WiFi network or intermiently connects
Ensure the Mul-Link is powered up and the power LED is on.
Ensure the SSID & Security Code match exactly to the informaon set on the router.
Ensure the IP address of the Mul-Link is in the same range as the wireless network & does not conict with any other device
on the network.
Ensure the IP address assigned to the Mul-Link is outside the DHCP range of the router. (Seng Up the Mul-Link Step 4)
The app will not connect to the Mul-Zone system
Ensure the smartphone is connected to the WiFi network (LAN access) or 3G network (WAN access)
Ensure the following informaon entered on the app is correct:
LAN - Fixed IP address assigned to the Mul-Link.
WAN - IP or Dynamic address used when connecng remotely.
PIN - 4 Digit number, same as the WiFi thermostats on the system.
The Mul-Zone app does not show any thermostat informaon
Ensure the PIN number stored in the Mul-Link is the same PIN that is stored in the WiFi thermostats.
Ensure the thermostat IP address informaon stored in the Mul-Link is in the same network range. 12
