1 Introduction
Dear Customer,
Thank you for purchasing a Soluva® UV-C air purification unit made by Heraeus Noble-
light.
Heraeus Noblelight is a globally leading company today. 120 years ago, we invented a
UV lamp. Our products stand for highest quality, safety and effectiveness of special light
applications. Our lamps and devices have been developed and are produced in Ger-
many.
UV light already has many applications. It cleans your drinking water, disinfects the air in
many air-conditioning plants and hospitals or is used to sterilise packages, such as for
baby food.
Used properly and professionally, Heraeus UV-C air purification unit are absolutely safe
to handle.
So, you have made the right decision.
UV-C light is very effective against viruses, bacteria and fungi. Especially in viruses,
such as SARS-CoV-2 (including its mutations), UV-C light acts directly on the genetic
material, through the thin outer lipid shell (fat layer). This prevents the virus from replic-
ating.
You will not notice anything of this. The UV-C light disinfection process is odourless and
our lamps are built to not expose you to any risk if the device is installed properly. The
inserted LED strips indicate whether the device is running correctly.
What is important for an optimal cleaning effect is good air circulation that provides a
constant flow of air but shall also not be unpleasant. Our devices have built-in fans. They
take the air into the device from above. The air outlets at the front and bottom of the
device then ensure creation of an optimal air circulation that will reach all corners of your
room as far as possible.
èPlease observe the installation instructions.
We have put our many years of experience into the development of your new Soluva®
device. The devices have been tested in cooperation with various renowned institutions.
First, we have investigated the effect of UV-C light on viruses together with the Tübin-
gen university hospital, using a Heraeus Soluva® Zone H handheld device. The report
says:
u"It bears mentioning that a short exposure of high-titre, surface-dried virus …
to UV-C light ... resulted in complete reduction of SARS-CoV-2 infectivity. All
in all, our findings show that SARS-CoV-2 is inactivated rapidly by relatively
low doses of UV-C radiation. Accordingly, UV-C treatment is an effective, non-
chemical option for decontaminating the surfaces of high-titre, infectious
SARS-CoV-2."
We also have made sure that we effectively destroy the virus at high airflow rates. To
this end, we have conducted a study together with the Biotec hygiene institute, using
our Soluva® Air M ceiling unit. An extract from the summary:

IPS_Man_20003342641 V01 en 03.21 Page 7 of 36
u"When the UV light was switched on, viruses could no longer be detected in
the air. Taking account of the detection limit of 50 PFU/m³, a reduction of act-
ive viruses by ≥ 4.9 log ranges can be stated. This means an inactivation rate
of ≥ 99.99875 % …"
In addition to this, we are the first company that has tested its devices worldwide under
conditions close to reality in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Building
Physics.
For these tests, a classroom was imitated. Heated dummies simulated the pupils and
one of the dummies constantly exhaled a virus mist.
The findings of the Fraunhofer Institute are clear:
u"On measurement day 2, samples of a duration of half an hour were taken and
within the scope of these investigations, it was found that the viruses were re-
duced by 99.31 % … already after 60 minutes of operation of the device."
When the nebuliser was switched off (i.e. no viruses were exhaled any longer), the Her-
aeus Soluva® Air W device was able to clean the room to a rate of 99.92 %.
Emissions of UV radiation were not measurable and it was shown that the air purification
unit had not formed any by-products (ozone, VOCs, aldehydes or ketones). All guid-
ance values of the German Federal Environmental Agency were complied with.
With this, we meet all the criteria for the use of UV-C air purification units defined on 16
November 2020 by the interior room air hygiene commission of the German Federal En-
vironmental Agency.
We are convinced that the UV-C technology is the best technical solution for cleaning
surfaces and air.
Have fun with your Heraeus Soluva® device.
Yours faithfully, Heraeus Noblelight

2 Product description
Soluva® Air W is a product of Heraeus Noblelight for the disinfection of air in closed
rooms.
This product allows dry disinfection without chemicals.
The UV lamps contained in this device destroy the structure of the microorganisms' DNA
by using highly disinfectant UV radiation of the wavelength 254 nm (ozone-free).
The Soluva® Air W can disinfect the air in heavily frequented rooms, such as offices,
classrooms, retail shops, production rooms, changing cubicles, gallerias, nursery
schools, hospitals, waiting rooms, catering areas.
Optimisation of the disinfection effect
What is important for an optimal cleaning effect is good air circulation that
provides a constant flow of air but shall also not be unpleasant.
This device has built-in fans. They take the air into the device from above. The
air outlets at the front and bottom of the device then ensure creation of an op-
timal air circulation that will reach all corners of your room as far as possible.
èObserve the installation instructions.
èExamples of arrangement in the room see chapter Mounting.
The Soluva® Air W consists of:
uHousing with air inlets and outlets (for wall mounting)
uTwo UV lamps (NNI 50/26XL) for air disinfection
uIntegrated control unit
uLED strip light for visualising the operating states
uConnecting cable 2,5 m with plug with earthing contact (detachable)
uFastening kit (for mounting to walls made of selected materials)
2.1 Intended use
Soluva® Air W is designed exclusively for the disinfection of ambient air in small to me-
dium-sized rooms.
Examples of misuse which the operator must rule out:
uDo not use to expose humans or animals to radiation.
uDo not use for general lighting purposes.
uDo not use outside of the permitted ambient conditions.
uManipulation or bypassing of a safety device.
uDo not use outdoors.
uDo not use in explosive or combustible atmospheres.
