This quick guide will equip you with the essential information to operate and sell a HighGear Axis, Summit or AltiTech 2. It
includes quick tips and a question and answer section.
Axis/Summit/AltiTech2 Key Features include:
Time, Compass, Barometer, Altimeter, Chronograph, and Alarm
Setting Time & Date
•Press
set/light button until “ADJUST HOLD” flashes, “HOUR” will display and digits begin to flash.
•Use
start/lap button (+) and stop button (-) to adjust to desired setting.
•
Mode button will scroll to minute, second, year, month, day, & 24 hour or 12 hour setting.
•Press
set/light button to lock in information.
•To toggle between Time 1 (T1) and Time 2 (T2), press
stop button. Hold stop button for 2 seconds to set either time for display.
Calibrating the Compass
•THIS COMPASS HAS TO BE CALIBRATED THE FIRST TIME YOU USE IT.
•Press
set/light button until “CAL HOLD” flashes. When “CAL” appears, rotate the unit clockwise while holding it level for 3 full
rotations, each rotation lasting 10-15 seconds.
•Press
set/light button and the declination setting screen will appear.
•Use
start/lap button (+) and stop button (-) to adjust digits.
•Use
mode button to scroll between digits and cardinal direction.
•Press
set/light button to end calibration.
Setting Barometric Pressure
•Press set/light button, “ADJUST HOLD” will flash, “SET CURRENT WEATHER” will scroll at top of display and icons begin flashing.
•Use
start/lap and stop buttons to choose desired icon, then press mode button to advance to sea level barometric pressure.
•Once digits start flashing for sea level pressure, use
start/lap button (+) and stop button (-) to adjust digits. When the desired
number is displayed, press
set light button to lock in information. /
Setting Altitude
•Press s
et/light button until “CAL HOLD” appears and digits begin to flash.
•Use
start/lap button (+) and stop button (-) to adjust digits.
•Press
mode button to access MAX and ACCUMULATED altitudes. Press stop button to zero out the max and accumulated altitude.
•Once main altitude displays, the scrolling max and accumulated altitude is set press
set/light button to exit.
•To add a reading to your log book, press
start/lap button and hold until “STORED DATA” stops flashing.
•Set altitude either in feet (FT) or meters (M): press
stop button and hold until the desired setting stops flashing.

Using the Chronograph
•Press
start/lap to begin counting a run.
•Press
start/lap while the chronograph is counting to record when a lap has been completed. The lap and split display will pause for 5
seconds to provide the user with a summary to view.
•Laps will display at the bottom of the screen.
•The digits in the middle of the display are the overall time of the entire time elapsed since the beginning of a particular run.
•The digits at the top of the display show the elapsed time of the last lap.
•Press
stop button for the lap and split times to cease counting.
•To zero out chronograph, press the
stop button then press and hold the se /light button. t
Setting the Alarm
•There are two standard time-of-day alarms.
•Select desired alarm by pressing the
stop button. Choose either “AL-1” or “AL-2”.
•Press
set/light button, “ADJUST HOLD” will flash, “HOUR” displays and hour digit flashes, ready to be adjusted.
•Use
start/lap button (+) and stop button (-) to adjust hour.
•
Mode button will scroll to minutes, seconds, time1/time2, and chime off/ chime on.
•Press
set/light to lock in information.
•To enable alarm, press
stop button to choose either AL-1 or AL-2, then press start/lap button to choose either “on” or “off”.
Quick Tips:
1. While in any mode, press and hold set/light button until display starts flashing in order to change data.
2. Thermometer tends to read 10 to 15 degrees higher when worn due to body heat.
3. After several seconds of a compass reading there will be four dashes in the display. This signifies the compass is in sleep mode to
conserve the battery life.
4. To accurately take a compass reading, avoid performing a reading near any source of magnetism. Try avoiding metal objects,
electrical devices such as: computers and speakers also avoid electric engines, power lines, other compasses and large buildings.
5. Compass readings should be taken in open air, not indoors (including tents, caves, or where any environment would interfere with a
reading).
Question and Answer:
Why does my altitude change even though I have not changed elevation?
When barometric pressure fluctuates, the altitude interprets this information as vertical movement and can cause variance.
How often should I set my altimeter?
Calibrate the altitude daily for the most accurate reading.
Why does my Axis/Summit consistently read a higher temperature while on my wrist?
Body heat will affect the temperature reading when the Axis/Summit is worn on the wrist. The watch should be removed from the wrist and
the user should allow up to 15 minutes for the watch to adjust before reading the temperature for an accurate reading.
What is the deference between Sea Level barometric pressure and Absolute barometric pressure?
Absolute barometric pressure is the true pressure at any known location at any time. Sea Level barometric pressure is its equivalent pressure
corresponded to sea level. HighGear altimeters use the Sea Level barometric pressure to interpret elevation; we use this reading because it is
more constant.
How often should I calibrate my compass?
The compass should be calibrated prior to first time use, and before each hike or daily if when the compass is used on a frequent basis.
What is declination?
It is the angular difference between Map North and Magnetic North.
What do the four lines that appear in the compass mode indicate?
After ten seconds of a compass reading four dashes in the display screen will appear, this signifies the compass is in sleep mode to conserve
battery life.

How long will my battery last?
Battery will last about 12- 18 months, depending on the frequency of compass and backlight use.
