1.1 GENERAL NOTES

2 SAFETY
2.1 APPLIED SYMBOLS
During normal air conditioning system design work or unit
installation, greater attention must be paid in certain situations
requiring particular care in order to avoid injuries an damage to
the unit, the installation or the building or property.
Situations that jeopardise the safety of those in the surrounding
area or that put the unit itself a risk will be clearly indicated in
this manual.
To indicate these situations, a series of special symbols will be
used to clearly identify these situations.
Pay close attention to these symbols and to the messages
following them, as your safety and that of others depends on it.

instructions relating directly to your safety and physical
wellbeing.

The power range of the RAS-(8-96)FSXNSE outdoor units is obtained by applying one unit (RAS-(8-24)FSXNSE) or by the

3.3 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT SAFETY

• HITACHIisnotabletoforeseeallthecircumstanceswhichmay

• Donotpourwaterintheindoororoutdoorunit.Theseproducts
arettedwithelectriccomponents.Ifwatercomesintocontact
with electric components, this will cause a serious electric
shock.
• Donothandleoradjustthesafetydevicesinsidetheindoorand
outdoorunits.Thehandlingoradjustmentofthesedevicesmay
resultinseriousaccident.
• Donotopentheservicecoveroraccesspaneloftheindoorand
outdoorunitswithoutdisconnectingthemainpowersupply.
• In the event of re, switch off the mains, put out the re
immediatelyandcontactyourservicesupplier.
• Checkthattheearthcableiscorrectlyconnected.
• Connecttheunittoacircuitbreakerofthespeciedcapacity.

• Fittheindoorunit,theoutdoorunit,theremotecontrolandthecable
ataminimumof3metresawayfromsourcesofstrongradiationfrom
electromagneticwaves,suchasmedicalequipment.

otherinammablegaswithinametreofthesystem.
• Ifthecircuitbreakerorsupplyfuseoftheunitcomesonfrequently,
stopthesystemandcontacttheservicesuppler.
• Donotcarryoutmaintenanceorinspectionworkyourself.Thiswork
mustbecarriedoutbyqualiedservicepersonnelwithsuitabletools
andresourcesforthework.
• Donot placeanyforeignmaterial(branches,sticks,etc.)intheair
inletoroutletoftheunit.Theseunitsarettedwithhighspeedfans
andcontactwithanyobjectisdangerous.
• This appliance must be used only by adult and capable people,
having received the technical information or instructions to handle
thisapplianceproperlyandsafely.

theappliance.

products is supplied in a CD-ROM, which can be found
bundled with the outdoor unit. In case that the CD-ROM is
missing or it is not readable, please contact your HITACHI
dealer or distributor.

CD-ROM CAREFULLY BEFORE STARTING WORK
ON THE INSTALLATION OF THE AIR CONDITIONING
SYSTEM. Failure to observe the instructions for installation,
use and operation described in this documentation may
result in operating failure including potentially serious faults,
or even the destruction of the air conditioning system

outdoor and indoor units, that all the information required for
the correct installation of the system is included. If this is not
the case, contact your distributor.

• This manual gives a common description and information
for this air conditioner which you operate as well as for other
models.
• Check and make sure that the explanations of each part of
this manual correspond to your air conditioner model.
• Refer to the models codication to conrm the main
characteristics of your system.
• Signal words (NOTE, DANGER and CAUTION) are used
to identify levels of hazard seriousness. Denitions for
identifying hazard levels are provided below with their
respective signal words.
• These operations modes are controlled by the remote
control switch.
• This manual should be considered as a permanent part of
the air conditioner. This manual gives a common description
and information for this air conditioner which you operate as
well as for other models.
• The air conditioning system should only be installed by
qualied personnel, with the necessary resources, tools
and equipment, who are familiar with the safety procedures
required to successfully carry out the installation.

PressureVesselandSafetyDevice:Thisairconditionerisequipped
with a high pressure vessel under PED (Pressure Equipment
Directive).Thepressurevesselhasbeendesignedandtestedbefore
shipment according to PED.Also, in order to prevent the system
fromanabnormalpressure,ahighpressureswitch,whichneedsno
eldadjustment,isutilizedin the refrigeration system. Therefore,
thisairconditionerisprotectedfromabnormalpressures.However,
if abnormally high pressure is applied to the refrigeration cycle
includingthehighpressurevessel(s),itwillresultinseriousinjury
ordeath due toexplosion of the pressurevessel. Do notapplya
pressure higher than the following pressure to the system, by
modifyingorchangingthehighpressureswitch.
!DANGER
Do not handle, modify or change the high pressure switch in the
airconditioningunit.Ifabnormallyhighpressureisappliedtothe
elementsintheairconditioningunitrefrigerantcycle,includingthe
high pressure vessels, these could explode resulting in serious
injuryorlossoflife.
Start-up and Operation: Checktoensurethatallthestopvalvesarefullyopenedandnoobstacleexistsattheinlet/outletsides
beforestart-upandduringtheoperation.
Maintenance:Periodicallycheckthehighpressuresidepressure.Ifthepressureishigherthanthemaximumallowablepressure,
stopthesystemandcleantheheatexchangerorremovethecause.

5 TRANSPORT, LIFTING AND HANDLING OF THE UNITS
5.1 TRANSPORT OF OUTDOOR UNIT

beforeunpacking
When using a crane, hang the unit according to the description
of the label attached to the outdoor unit.
The unit shall not be handled by one person. Do not use the PP
band to move the unit although the unit is packed by PP band.
Additionally, do not touch the heat exchanger with bare hands.
The n of heat exchanger may cause injuries.
The corrugated paper frame is not sufciently strong. Therefore
follow the instructions below in order to prevent the unit
deformation.
• Do not step or put any material on the product. It may cause
injury.
• Apply two sling belts onto the outdoor unit, when lifting it with
a crane.
• To protect the unit, do not remove any packing.
• Do not stack or put any material on the product.
• Apply wire ropes on both sides of the unit as shown in the
gure.
!CAUTION
Donotplaceothermaterialontopoftheoutdoorunitsduringtransport
andstorage.

5.2 HANDLING
When using forklift, do not insert forks into the holes on the unit
side. The unit may be damaged.

Nationalandlocallegislationmustbeobservedwithrespecttodriving
andthehandlingofloadswithfork-lifttrucks.
Do not apply excessive force to the square holes with forks or
other materials. The bottom of the unit may be deformed.
• Do not push the bottom base by a fork.
• Do not use a roller.
Do not apply an excessive force.

5.3 LIFTING METHOD
Do not remove any of the protective packaging from the unit to
protect it during handling and lifting.
The unit should only be lifted from the base.
Fit the hoisting slings through the openings on the base of the
unit.
!DANGER
• Always use textile slings in good condition, without cuts or
wear,andwiththecorrectcapacityforliftingtheoutdoorunit.
• Donotttheslingsonthewoodenbaseoftheunit.Thewooden
base is only designed to protect the base of the unit during
transportation;itwillnotwithstandthestrainofliftingtheunit.
• Donotusemetalcablestolifttheunit. Metal cables may slip
andcouldcausetheunittotiltorfallduringtheliftingoperation.
Slightly tighten the two hoisting slings.
Insert protection between where the slings touch the upper
protective cardboard packaging of the the unit. The slings must
not touch the unit.
The slings should form an angle of more than 60° with the upper
part of the unit. The unit should be kept horizontal throughout
the lifting operation. If necessary, tie guide ropes on to prevent
the unit from swinging freely during the lifting process.

No-oneshouldremainintheradiusofactionofthecraneduringthe
liftingprocess.
