Congratulations and thank you for your purchase of Hogtunes BTS-AA! Since
positive word of mouth is the best way to grow our business, we want your
new unit to work as well as it was designed to. If you have any questions or
regular business hours (EST) at 705-719-6361. If you still need help, then please
consider a professional installation by your dealer.
Installation Instructions:
Step #1: Make sure your ignition switch stays in the “OFF” position during the
entire installation! Remove your outer fairing/headlamp assembly, and set aside.
Refer to a service manual if you need help with this. It’s always a good idea to have
a towel or something similar on your front fender to avoid dings or scratches if
anything is dropped—colorful expletives will also be kept to a minimum.
Step #2: The BTS-AA is meant to t perfectly in the inner fairing once you remove
one of the 4 factory 2” gauges. In most cases, on Street Glide, EG Classics, and
Ultras, customers will remove the factory ambient air temperature gauge to the
immediate left of the radio. Note: On FLH model bikes, it may be easier to
complete the installation if you remove the horizontal fairing support bracket that
goes between the main fairing “upright”, and the bottom screw of the clutch side
speaker. On the back side of the gauge you will unplug the factory main plug and
plug for the backlight bulb that goes into the gauge. You will see 2 “hex nuts” that
are removed and allow the gauge to be removed from the bike.
Step #3: Mounting the BTS-AA. Run the wires through the opening in the fairing
where the factory gauge used to be. On the back side of the gauge, you will put
the large black aluminum washer on rst, followed by the smaller rubber washer,
and nally the large plastic nut. Make sure the front of BTS-AA is oriented they
way you want (straight) before you tighten the large plastic nut.
Step #4: The connector in gure 1.1 is what
was used to send power and ground to the
bulb on the factory gauge. Take the black
wire from BTS-AA and plug it into the factory
light bulb connector with the black wire
going into it.
Unplug the orange factory wire on the back
of the bikes cigarette lighter. The female
connector on BTS-AA’s orange wire will plug
directly on to the back of the cigarette lighter. Plug the factory orange wire
onto the male “take o” connector built into BTS-AA orange wire.
The power wire is the correct length for FLH model bikes. If you are installing
BTS-AA on a FLTR (Road Glide) , you can cut the zip tie on the orange wire for
the extra length you will need.
Step #5: For FLH model bikes, in most cases, you will run the long black audio
cable with the male 1/8” (3.5mm) plug across the back of the inner fairing and
have it exit the inner fairing on the under side of the handle bar where it
exits the inner fairing on the brake side. This makes it clean and easy to plug
into the AUX in on the front of the factory radio. Please note: You will have to
have the AUX input selected on your radio to hear BTS-AA.
Pairing Your Bluetooth® Device To BTS-AA: Put the Bluetooth® device you want
to pair to BTS-AA in its Bluetooth® menu mode. Using the bikes ignition switch,
power on the BTS-AA and the Hogtunes Logo will start ashing blue. On your
Bluetooth® device search for the device called “Hogtunes BTS” and pair it
noting no code is required. When successfully paired, the Hogtunes Logo will
turn “solid blue”. BTS-AA will “auto pair” up to 9 previously paired devices.
Please Note: Once BTS-AA sees power, it will always try and pair as shown by the
ashing blue Hogtunes logo. If you do not have a paired device with you while
riding, the blue light will continue to ash.
AUX Input: If you already had a peripheral music device on your bike such as
satellite radio or GPS, you will take the audio output from that device and
plug it into the female 1/8” mini plug (red molding) on the back of BTS-AA.
Instructions for using the AUX function on BTS-AA are below.
Main Key Pad Controls
The Volume Up/Volume Down buttons will control the volume level of
MOST devices. If this does not work for your device, you will need to
make sure you have the volume of your device up high enough to be
heard through your audio system BEFORE you start riding!
The play pause button allows you to pause your Bluetooth® device from
playing. Press the same button again and your device will start to play.
The “track up” button allows you to “skip forward” to the next song
saved on your Bluetooth® device. The “track down” button once
allows you to go back to the start of the song your currently listening
to. Press it a second time and go to the start of the song on your device
before the one your listening to.
Pressing the AUX button quickly 2 times allows music to come through
the BTS-AA, and out to your radio from a peripheral device such as a GPS
or satellite radio. When BTS-AA is in AUX mode, the AUX light will light
up yellow, and you will no longer be able to hear your Bluetooth®
device. Press the AUX button again quickly 2 times and the yellow light
will shut o indicating the unit is now out of AUX mode. The Bluetooth®
device can now once again be used and controlled by the key pad.
Note: When the unit is in AUX mode, the buttons on the control panel do
not control anything to do with the peripheral audio device!
