TILT STEERING AND HORN
Tilt steering
The lock lever is located directly beneath
the ignition lock.
Move the lock lever downwards.
Grasp the steering wheel and move as
required. It can be moved up or down.
Wheninposition,movethelockleverback
up as far as it will go. 'Jiggle' the steering
wheel to ensure it has locked securely
before driving.
WARNING:
Aswithalltheotherdriverposition
controls,donotattempttoadjust
the steering wheel while driving.
Horn
The horn is activated by pressing the j
light, on either side of the steering wheel.

GAUGES
Note: Due to differences between models, your vehicle may not feature all of the
warning / reminder lights illustrated.
Speedometer
The speedometer indicates vehicle speed in kilometres per hour.
Tachometer
The tachometer shows engine speed in revolutions per minute (rpm). Operation in the
red zone may cause serious engine damage.
Odometer / service reminder / tripmeter
Asmallwindow inthespeedometer isusedfor theodometer,the servicereminderand
the tripmeter. When the ignition is off, you can view the odometer and the tripmeter for
a few seconds by pressing the reset knob. The odometer records kilometres travelled
since the vehicle was built.
Theservicereminderdisplays'InSP'fora
few seconds when the engine is started if
thevehicle is within 500 kmor oneweek of
the next service. Refer to Chapter 12.
The tripmeter (above the odometer)
recordskilometrestravelledonaparticular
trip. To zero the reading, press the reset
knob while the ignition is on.
Gear indicator / Transmission mode indicator / Starting-off aid (if fitted)
These features relate to the operation of the automatic transmission. Refer to
Chapter 4.

Engine temperature gauge
The temperature gauge indicates the
engine coolant temperature.
If the pointer is to the left of the 80 mark,
the engine is not yet at operating
temperature.
If the pointer is between the 80 mark and
the 100 mark, the engine is at normal
operating temperature.
If the pointer moves to the right of the
100 mark for more than 30 seconds, the
engine temperature is too high.
If this occurs, stop the vehicle as soon as
it is safe to do so. Refer to Chapter 6,
Engine Overheating.
Fuel gauge
RefertoChapter8forthefueltankcapacity.
Add fuel to the tank when the gauge
indicates low fuel or when Y illuminates.
If the pointer moves into the red zone or Y
flashes, add fuel to the tank immediately.
Refer to Chapter 5.
Note: Never let the tank become empty;
this can cause damage to the exhaust
system components.
Instrument lighting
When the parking lights or headlights are
switched on, adjust the instrument
brightness by turning the thumb wheel
located on the lower right-hand side of the
headlight switch.

Sports / economy drive (automatic transmission)
Illuminatesforafewsecondswhentheignitionisswitchedonandwhen 'Sports
Drive' is selected. Transmission then shifts at higher engine speeds. Refer to
Chapter 4.
Check engine and automatic transmission fault
Your vehicle is fitted with an Electronic Engine Management System. This light
illuminateswhentheignitionisswitchedonandgoesoffshortlyaftertheengine
starts to run.
If it illuminates when driving, a fault has occurred in the transmission or service
to the Engine Management System may be required. Stop the vehicle, switch
theengine off and restart. Ifthe lightcontinues to flash, manually changegears
using the shift lever and consult a Holden Retailer.
Although the vehicle may still be drivable and not require towing, see a Holden
Retailer as soon as possible. Continued driving could affect fuel consumption,
engine performance or may damage the catalytic converter.
If the light flashes and the engine cannot be started, turn the ignition off for at
least 2 seconds before attempting to start the engine again.
Battery
Illuminates when the ignition is switched on. Extinguishes when the engine is
started and the engine speed is increased above idle speed.
If it illuminates when driving, the battery is not being charged properly (engine
cooling may also be affected). Consult a Holden Retailer as soon as possible.
Brakes, hydraulic clutch
Illuminates for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on. It will extinguish
after a few seconds unless the park brake is applied or the brake / clutch fluid
levels are low.
If it lights during driving and the park brake is not applied, you should stop the
vehicle as soon as possible and consult a Holden Retailer.
Emissions
Your vehicle is fitted with an emission monitoring system. The emission
warning light indicates when system service is required. The light illuminates
when the ignition is switched on and goes off shortly after the engine starts to
run.
If the light illuminates when driving, service to the emission system may be
required. Although the vehicle may still be driveable and not require towing,
consult a Holden Retailer as soon as possible.
However, if the light flashes while driving, reduce speed until the light stops
flashing and consult a Holden Retailer as soon as possible.
Low fuel
Illuminates when the fuel gauge enters the red zone (earlier when driving
around corners). If the light flashes, add fuel immediately.

Starting-off aid (automatic transmission)
Illuminates when the starting-off aid is switched on. Refer to Chapter 4.
Oil pressure
Illuminates when ignition is switched on and goes off after the engine is
started. It can light up intermittently when idling if engine is hot, but must go
out when engine speed is increased. If the light illuminates when driving, stop
the vehicle immediately and switch off the engine. Check the engine oil level.
Refer to Chapter 7. Do not drive with this light illuminated. If the oil level is
normal, have the system checked at the nearest Holden Retailer.
Rear fog lights
Illuminates when the rear fog lights are switched on.
High beam
Illuminates when the high beam headlights are in use or are flashed.
Left and right turn signal indicators
The respective arrow (left or right) flashes when the turn signal lights are in
use. If the light flashes rapidly, a turn signal bulb may have failed.
Seat belt
Thiswarninglightilluminatesforashort time whentheignitionisfirstswitched
on. This warning is designed to remind occupants to fasten their seat belts.
Airbag and seat belt pretensioners
Illuminates for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on. If it does not
extinguish or if it illuminates when driving, there is a defect in the airbag / seat
belt pretensioner system. They may not function correctly, especially in an
accident. Consult a Holden Retailer as soon as possible.
Electronic power steering (EPS)
The EPS light remains illuminated when the ignition is switched on and goes
offaftertheengineisstarted.Ifitilluminateswhendriving,afaulthasoccurred
intheEPSsystem.Youmaycontinuetodrivebutgreatereffortwillberequired
to turn the steering wheel. Consult the nearest Holden Retailer.
Anti-lock braking system (ABS) (if fitted)
The ABS light illuminates for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on.
Ifitdoesnot go outorifitcomes on duringdriving,thereis a defectintheABS.
The brake system is operational but without ABS assistance. You should
consult a Holden Retailer as soon as possible.

WIPERS AND WASHERS
Windscreen wipers
Move the lever upwards.
Fast

Tosettheintermittentwipeintervalbetween
2 and 15 seconds:
1. Set the lever to intermittent.
2. Set the lever to off.
3. Wait for the number of seconds interval
you wish to set.
4. Set the lever back to intermittent.
The selected intermittent interval is stored until it is changed again or until the ignition
is switched off. When the ignition is switched on, the interval is preset to 7 seconds.
Windscreen washer
Never operate the wipers on dry glass as
this can damage the rubber wiper blades.
Tospray washer fluid onto the windscreen
pullthe levertoward you.At the same time
thewipersareoperatedforseveralsweeps.
Rear wiper and washer (if fitted)
Push the lever away from you to the first
position to turn on the rear wiper. To turn
on the rear washer, push the lever further
and hold as long as required.
When the lever is in the first position, the
rear wiper operates at an intermittent
speed.

light. Press the switch again to turn off
the light.
kTurn the thumb-wheel to adjust the
brightness of the instrument lights.
High / low beam
With headlights switched on, push the
lever away from you and release it. The
headlights change from low to high beam.
Pull the lever back towards the steering
wheel to return to low beam.
When high beam is in use, a light on the
instrument panel illuminates.
Itisalsopossibletoflashthehighbeamfor
signalling purposes by pulling the lever
towards you (even with the headlights
turnedoff). The lightsremain in highbeam
as long as the lever is held in this position.
Leavingthe headlights onwithout the enginerunning willeventually flatten thebattery.
A warning chime will remind you to switch off the headlights when leaving the vehicle.
Headlight range adjustment
The headlight range may be adjusted to
suit the current load in the vehicle by
selecting 0, 1, 2 or 3 when the headlights
are on.
Correct adjustment of the headlight range
reduces dazzle for other road users.
0 Front seats occupied.
1 All seats occupied.
2 All seats occupied and load in the
luggage compartment.
3 Driver's seat occupied and load in the
luggage compartment.

Rear fog light/s
The push button for the rear fog light/s is
located below the headlight switch beside
the instrument dimming switch.
Push the button while the headlights are
on to switch the fog lights on or off. The
light in the instrument panel glows when
the fog lights are switched on.
Checkyourstatelawsregarding theuseof
fog lights.
For Combo rear fog light detail, refer to
Chapter 6.
Front fog lights (if fitted)
To turn the front fog lights on or off, push
the button beside the headlight range
adjuster. When the front fog lights are on,
the> lightappearsontheleft-handsideof
the instrument panel.

Turn signal indicators
Push the lever up or down (as required) to
signal a turn.
In some turns (such as changing lanes)
thesteeringwheelis notturnedfarenough
to cancel the turn signal. So, to indicate a
lane change, move the lever part way and
hold. The lever will return to the neutral
position when released.
Tosignalaturn,pushtheleverinthesame
directionthatyouintendtoturnthesteering
wheel.
Hazard warning flasher
Push the button to switch on or off.
Use the hazard warning flasher to warn
other drivers if your vehicle becomes a
traffic hazard, day or night.
When the hazard warning system is on,
the ¨light flashes in unison with the
exterior turn signals.
Use of the hazard warning flashers while
the vehicle is moving is illegal in some
states.
Lights off delay
Thelowbeamheadlightsandthereversing
lights can be set to turn off 30 seconds
after leaving the vehicle. This feature is of
particular benefit when parking in unlit
parking areas, driveways and garages.
Afterremovingtheignitionkeyandopening
the driver's door, pull the turn signal lever
towards the steering wheel, as illustrated.
Cancel this feature by inserting the key
into the ignition.
Note: If the driver's door is left open, the
lights will turn off after two minutes.

RADIO / CD PLAYER AND CUP HOLDER
Radio / CD player operation
The radio will stay on until the key is removed from the ignition. Therefore, remember
to remove the key when leaving the vehicle for any length of time or you may flatten
the battery.
The radio can also be heard when the key is removed from the ignition by pressing the
ON button. In this case, the radio will automatically switch off after one hour.
Refer to the audio instructions for operating your radio / CD player.
Mobile phones and CB radios
Mobile phones and CB radio equipment which use an integrated antenna may
temporarily affect the vehicle electronics when used inside the vehicle due to
interference created when transmitting.
Therefore, only mobile phones and CB equipment that use an antenna fitted to the
outside of the vehicle should be used.
Steering wheel mounted audio
controls (if fitted)
The audio system functions can be
operated by buttons mounted on the left
and right side of the steering wheel. The
audio system is operated as described in
the operating instructions supplied.
Cup holder
The cup holder is located in the front centre console.
Remember that drinks may be spilled when you drive off.

Ventilation air inlet
The vehicle features a flow through
ventilation system for your comfort. Under
reasonable conditions, it should be
unnecessary to open the windows.
Outsideairisdrawnintothevehiclethrough
theopening at the base ofthe windscreen.
Do not allow this opening to become
clogged with debris, such as leaves or
snow.
Pollen filter
The pollen filter is located in the air intake
vent. The filter removes dust, soot, pollen
and spores from the inflowing outside air.
The activated charcoal coating largely
eliminates odours and polluting
environmental gases from the air.
Note: The filter must be replaced at the
intervals specified in the maintenance
schedule. Refer to Chapter 12.
Demist and foot level vents
The demist and foot vent outlets are not
adjustable as they direct air to the
windscreen, windows or feet in the best
way.
Face level centre vents
Thefacelevel centreventsare adjustable.
They can be swivelled and tilted as
required. They can also be completely
shut off by sliding the adjuster towards the
centre of the dashboard.
When the temperature dial is set to the
centreposition, air fromthe centre ventsis
cooler than the air emitted from the side
vents.
Face level side vents
The face level side vents (1) can be
swivelled and tilted as required. They can
also be completely shut off by sliding the
adjuster towards the centre of the
dashboard. When the vent dial is set to
demist, air will be directed through the
demist vents (2) onto the windscreen and
door windows.

Temperature dial
Anticlockwise = cool
Clockwise = warm
Fan dial
OFF plus four fan speeds are provided.
Note: The rate of air flow is determined by
vehicle speed as well as by the fan.
Vent dial
VAir from demist vents.
JAir from demist and foot vents.
KAir from foot vents.
LAir from face and foot vents.
MAir from face-level vents.
Toprovide forindividual requirements,the
switch can be set to any intermediate
position.
Note: The air will flow from the face vents
with all vent dial positions, provided the
vents are open.

Air intake button
Push the 4 button to switch between
recirculated and outside air. The 4 light
illuminates when recirculate is selected.
When following another vehicle on dusty
roadsortopreventexhaustfumesorodours
from entering your vehicle, select
recirculation. However, when driving on
unsealed roads but where the dust is not
airborne,selectfreshair.Allwindowsmust
be closed and the fan preferably on a high
speed so that positive air pressure in the
vehicle helps prevent dust from being
sucked in.
Therecirculate selectionreuses interiorair andis therefore not recommended for long
periods of time. If occupants are smoking, it is recommended that recirculate is not
selected, as the tobacco smoke adheres to the air ducts and produces stale smelling air.
Heating
•Air conditioning switch off (if fitted).
•Air intake button to fresh air position.
•Temperature dial as required.
•Fan as required, but not full speed.
•Vents dial to foot vents.
Note: Heat will not be available until the
engine warms up. Therefore, keep vents
closed until the engine has warmed up,
then direct vents towards side windows (if
required) to aid demisting.
Ventilation without using air
conditioning
Use these settings to conserve fuel when
air does not require cooling.
•Air conditioning switch off (if fitted).
•Air intake button to fresh air position.
•Turn temperature dial to cold.
•Fan speed as required.
•Set vents dial to face-level.
•Open all vents.

AIR CONDITIONING (if fitted)
Airconditioningnotonlycoolstheairbut also removes moisture.Ifthetemperaturedial
is moved away from extreme cold, the air will then be reheated before entering the
cabin.
Theairconditioner is switchedonby pushingthebutton with thesnowflakelight. Alight
in the switch will glow when the air conditioner is operating. The fan automatically runs
at low speed, which can be increased if required.
The air conditioning system operates only in the temperature ranges in which it is
required; it switches off automatically when the outside temperature is below + 4°C.
Toconservefuel,switchofftheairconditioningincoldweather.However,onceamonth
(with the engine running) switch the air conditioner on for 5 to 10 minutes, even in
Winter. This will lubricate the air conditioning system.
At least one vent must be open when the air conditioning is on, so that the evaporator
does not ice up due to a lack of air movement.
Normal cooling
•Air conditioning switch on.
•Air intake button to fresh air position.
•Turn temperature dial to cold.
•Fan speed as required.
•Set vents dial to face-level.
•Open all vents.
Maximum cooling
For maximum cooling in hot weather or
when the vehicle has been left in the sun,
open the windows briefly so that warm air
can escape quickly.
•Air conditioning switch on.
•Air intake button in recirculate position.
•Turn temperature dial to cold.
•Fan to highest speed.
•Set vents dial to face-level.
•Open all vents.
Do not have recirculation selected for long
periods as no outside air is drawn into the
vehicle. Cabin air is recirculated and can
become stale.

DEMISTING
Windscreen demisting
•Air conditioning switch on (if fitted)
•Air intake button to fresh.
Note: Air intake will automatically switch
from recirculation to fresh air when the
vents dial is rotated to demist mode.
•Temperature dial to hot.
•Fan to speed 2 or more.
•Vents dial to demist or to demist and
foot level vents.
•Close all dashboard vents.
Rear window demisting
Demisting is provided for the rear window.
Presstheswitchtoturndemistingonoroff.
A light in the switch glows when demisting
is operating.
Demisting operates when the ignition is
on.

CIGARETTE LIGHTER AND ASHTRAYS
Cigarette lighter (if fitted)
Thecigarettelighterworkswhentheignition
is switched on. Push the cigarette lighter
inwards to heat. The lighter will
automatically pop out when heated and
ready to use.
Front ashtray (if fitted)
Toopen,liftthefrontofthecoverupwards.
To empty, open the ashtray cover beyond
its resistance point which will cause the
ashtray insert to lift from its installed
position.
To remove the ashtray completely, pull up
evenly on both sides of the ashtray insert.
Rear ashtray (if fitted)
Toopen,liftthefrontofthecoverupwards.
To empty, open the cover and pull the
ashtray upwards by its cover.
