TILT STEERING AND HORN
Tilt steering (if fitted)
The lock lever is located directly beneath
the ignition lock.
Move the lock lever downwards.
Grasp the steering wheel and move as
required. It can be moved up or down.
When in position, move the lock lever back
up as far as it will go. "Jiggle" the steering
wheel to ensure it has locked securely
before driving.
CAUTION:
As with all the other driver position
controls, do not attempt to adjust
the steering wheel while driving.
Horn
The horn is activated by pressing the j
symbol,oneithersideofthesteeringwheel.

GAUGES
Speedometer
The speedometer indicates vehicle speed in kilometres per hour.
Odometer / tripmeter / service reminder
A small window in the speedometer is used for the odometer, the tripmeter, and the
service reminder. The odometer and the tripmeter can be made to appear for a few
seconds when the ignition is OFF by pressing the reset knob.
The odometer records kilometres travelled since the car was built.
The tripmeter (above the odometer) records kilometres travelled on a particular trip.
Press the reset knob when the ignition is ON to zero the reading.
The service reminder will only show for a few seconds when the engine is started
if the car is within 500 km or one week of the next service. The display will then show
"InSP", refer to Chapter 12 Servicing.
Tachometer
The tachometer shows engine speed in revolutions per minute (r.p.m.) times 1000.
Operation in the red zone (above 6,500 r.p.m.) may cause serious engine damage.
Gear indicator / transmission mode indicator / starting-off aid
These features are related to the operation of the automatic transmission. Refer to
Chapter 4 Driving.

Engine temperature gauge
NEEDLEINZONEATLEFT = Enginehas
not reached operating temperature.
NEEDLE BETWEEN ZONES = Engine is
at normal operating temperature.
NEEDLE IN ZONE AT RIGHT = Engine
temperature is too high. Stop the car as
soonasitissafetodo so.RefertoChapter
6 for further information.
The engine temperature gauge shows
the coolant temperature only if the coolant
level is adequate. Refer to Chapter 7 for
information about checking the coolant
level.
Fuel gauge
The fuel tank has a capacity of 45 litres.
When the Ysymbol on the fuel gauge
lights up, the fuel level is down to the
reserve area. If the fuel tank is almost
empty the symbol will begin to flash.
Refuel before the Ysymbol lights up.
Neverallowthefueltanktobecomeempty.
Refer to Chapter 5 for information about
refuelling.
Instrument lighting
When the headlights are switched on,
adjust instrument brightness by turning
the thumb wheel located on the lower
right-hand side of the headlight switch.

WARNING LIGHTS
Sports/economydrive(automatictransmissiononly)
Lights up for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on and when "Sports
Drive" is selected. Transmission then shifts at higher engine speeds, refer to
Chapter 4.
Automatictransmissionfault
Lightsupfor afewsecondswhentheignitionisswitched on.Ifitlightsupduring
driving a fault has occurred. Stop the car, switch the engine off and restart. If
the light continues to flash, manually change gears using the T-bar and consult
a Holden dealer.
Battery
Lights up when ignition is switched on. Goes out when the engine is started
and engine speed is increased above idle speed.
Ifitlightsupduringdrivingthenthebatteryisnotbeingchargedproperly(engine
cooling may also be affected). You should see a Holden Dealer as soon as
possible.
Brakes,hydraulicclutch
Lights up for a few seconds when ignition is switched on. It will go out after a
few seconds unless the park brake is applied and/or the brake/clutch fluid
levels are low.
If it lights during driving and the park brake is
not applied you should stop the
car as soon as possible and consult a Holden Dealer.
Check engine
Your car is fitted with an Electronic Engine Management System. The check
engine symbol indicates when system service is required. The symbol lights
when the ignition is switched on and goes out shortly after the engine starts
to run. If the symbol lights up when driving, service to the Engine Management
System may be required. Although the car may still be drivable and not require
towing, see your Holden Dealer as soon as possible, as continued driving
could affect fuel consumption, engine performance or may damage the
catalytic converter.
However, if the symbol
flashes and the engine cannot be started, turn the
ignition off for at least 2 seconds before attempting to start the engine again.
Emissions
Your car is fitted with an emission monitoring system. The emission warning
symbol indicates when system service is required. The symbol lights when
the ignition is switched on and goes out shortly after the engine starts to run.
If the symbol lights up when driving, service to the emission system may be
required.Although thecar maystill bedrivableandnotrequiretowing,see your
Holden Dealer as soon as possible.
However, if the symbol
flashes while driving, reduce speed until the light stops
flashing and take the car to a Holden Dealer as soon as possible.
Low fuel
Lights up when the fuel gauge enters the red zone and comes on earlier when
driving around bends. If the light flashes the fuel is just about to run out.

Oilpressure
Lights up when ignition is switched on and goes out after the engine is started.
It can light up intermittently when idling if engine is hot, but must go out when
engine speed is increased.
Ifilluminatedduringdriving,immediately stop the car and switch off the engine.
Check the engine oil level. Do not drive with this light showing. If the oil level
is normal, have the system checked at your nearest Holden Dealer.
Starting-offaid (automatic transmissiononly)
Lights up when the starting-off aid is switched on, refer to Chapter 4.
Rear fog lights
Lights up when the rear fog lights are switched on.
High beam
Lights up when headlight high beams are in use or flashed.
Turnsignal indicators
Flash when turn signal lights are on. If the symbol flashes rapidly a turn signal
light bulb has failed.
Seat belt
The belt warning light is displayed for a short time when the ignition is first
switched ON. The warning is designed to remind occupants to fasten their seat
belts.
Air bag and seat belt pre-tensioners
Lights up for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on. If it does not go
out or if it comes on during driving, there is a defect in the air bag/seat belt
pre-tensioner system and they may not function correctly, especially in an
accident. You should consult your Holden Dealer as soon as possible.
Electronic power steering
The EPS (Electronic Power Steering) light remains on when the ignition is
switched on and goes out after the engine is started. If it lights up during driving
afaulthasoccurredintheElectronicPowerSteeringsystem.Youmaycontinue
to drive but greater effort will be required to turn the steering wheel. Have the
system checked at your nearest Holden Dealer.

WIPERS AND WASHERS
Wipers and washers are operational when the ignition is ON.
Windscreen wipers
Move the lever upwards.

Setting intermittent wipe interval between
2 and 15 seconds:
•Set lever to intermittent
•Set lever to off
•Wait for number of seconds
interval you wish to set
•Set lever back to intermittent
The selected intermittent interval is stored until changed again or until the ignition is
switched off. When the ignition is switched on, the interval is preset to 7 seconds.
Windscreen washer
Neveroperate with wipers ondryglass, as
this will damage the rubber. To spray
washer fluid onto the windscreen pull the
lever toward you. At the same time the
wipers are operated for several sweeps.
Tailgate washer
Push the lever away from you to the first
‘stop’ position to turn on the rear wiper. To
turn on the rear washer, push the lever
further and hold as long as required.
Whenthe leveris inthe first‘stop’ position,
therearwiperwilloperateatanintermittent
speed.

High/low beam
When the headlights are switched on,
pushtheleverawayfromyou,thenrelease.
The headlights will change from low to
highbeam. Pull the leverbacktowards the
steering wheel to return to low beam.
When the high beams are in use a symbol
on the instrument panel will glow.
It is also possible to flash the high beams
for signalling purposes (even if the
headlights are off) by pulling the lever
towards you. The lights will remain in high
beam as long as the lever is held towards
you.
Leavingtheheadlightsswitchedonwithout
the engine running will eventually flatten
thebattery.
A warning chime will remind you to switch
off the headlights when leaving the car.
Headlight range adjustment
The headlight range may be adjusted to
suit the current load in the car by selecting
0, 1, 2 or 3 when the headlights are ON.
Correct adjustment of the headlight range
reduces dazzle for other road users.
0 = Front seats occupied
1= All seats occupied
2 = All seats occupied and load in the
luggage compartment
3 = Driver's seat occupied and load in the
luggage compartment

EXTERIOR LIGHTS cont.
Rear fog lights
The push button for the rear fog lights is
located below the headlight switch beside
the instrument dimming switch.
Push the button to switch on or off. The
symbol in the instrument panel glows
when the fog lights are working.
Check your State's Laws regarding use of
fog lights when driving.
Turnsignals
Push the lever up or down (as required) to
signal a turn.
In some turns (such as changing lanes)
thesteeringwheelisnotturnedfar enough
to cancel the turn signal. So, to indicate a
lane change, move the lever part way and
hold. The lever will return to the neutral
position when released.
Tosignalaturn,pushtheleverinthesame
directionthatyouintendtoturnthesteering
wheel.
Hazard warning flasher
Push the button to switch on or off.
Use the hazard warning flasher to warn
other drivers if your car becomes a traffic
hazard, day or night.
When the hazard warning system is on,
the button’s symbol will flash, in unison
with the external turn signals.
Use of the hazard warning flashers while
the car is moving is illegal in some States.
