Important safety instructions
When using your electric kettle, basic safety precautions should always be followed:
1 Read all the instructions carefully, and keep them in a safe place.

9 The appliance is fitted with a short power supply cord to reduce the hazards associated with
the cord becoming entangled or users tripping over longer cords.
10 Do not let the cord hang over the edges of tables or counters. Ensure that the cable is not in a
position where it can be pulled on inadvertently.
11 Do not use the appliance on a gas or electric cooking top, or over or near an open flame.
12 If it is absolutely necessary to use an extension cord, a 10-ampere cord should be used. Cords
rated for less amperage may overheat. Care should be taken to arrange the cord so that it
cannot be accidentally pulled or tripped over.
13 The appliance must be used on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
14 Do not carry the appliance by the power cord.
15 Close supervision is necessary for any appliance being used by or near children. Do not
leave the kettle unattended while connected to the power supply.
16 This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical,
sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been
given supervision or instruction concerning the use of this appliance by a person responsible
for their safety.
17 Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
18 Ensure the appliance is switched off after use.
19 Do not over-fill the kettle.
20 Do not move or clean the kettle until it has completely cooled.
21 Never use automatic timers with this appliance.
22 Do not use chemical additives or abrasive detergents to clean the kettle, as they will damage
the appliance.
23 The manufacturer does not accept responsibility for any damage or injury caused by improper
or incorrect use, or repairs completed by unauthorised personnel.
24 In case of any technical problems, switch off the appliance and do not attempt to repair
it. Return the appliance to an authorised service facility for testing, adjustment or repair.
Always insist on the use of original spare parts. Failure to comply with the abovementioned
precautions and instructions may affect the safe operation of this appliance.
25 This appliance has been designed for use in households and similar environments, including
(but not limited to) areas such as staff kitchens in shops and offices, hotel and B&B rooms,

Before initial use
Before using your kettle for the first time:
■ Make sure that all packaging materials have been removed.
■ Any excess power cord can be stored under the power base.
■ Remove the kettle from the power base and open the lid. Fill the kettle to the maximum mark
and close the lid.
■ Place the kettle back on the power base. Switch on the kettle, and allow the water to boil.
Discard the boiled water, and repeat the process. This will remove any residue left behind
during the manufacturing process.
Caution:
■ If the kettle is filled above the maximum level mark, hot water may spill from the spout during
boiling.
■ Take care to avoid injury from the steam escaping from the spout or lid.
■ Never open the lid during the boiling process.
■ Ensure that the lid is closed when boiling water. If the lid is not properly sealed, the kettle will
not automatically switch off when the water boils.

Operating instructions
1 With the kettle switched off, plug the power base into a suitable power outlet.
2 Remove the kettle from the power base before filling it with water.
3 Fill the kettle with water. Don’t overfill the kettle, but always ensure that there is sufficient water
in the kettle for it to operate correctly – the water must be between the MIN and MAX level
indicators. Always check the water level before placing the kettle on the power base.
4 Close the lid and switch on the kettle by pressing the ON/OFF switch. Make sure that the lid is
closed correctly to ensure safe operation.
5 When the water reaches boiling point, the kettle will switch off automatically.
6 The kettle can be switched off manually at any point by moving the switch to the OFF position.
Caution: The kettle is fitted with an automatic safety cut-off switch to protect the appliance
against overheating. If the safety cut-off has been activated, disconnect the power base from the
mains and allow the kettle to cool down for 5-10 minutes.
Energy saving hints and tips
• Only boil the water you need. Overfilling the kettle by just one cup is the equivalent to using an
energy-saving bulb for one hour.
• It’s not always necessary to re-boil the water in the kettle. As an example, one litre of water will
still be at 90°C after five minutes – the perfect temperature for a cup of coffee.

Cleaning and maintenance
1 This product requires very little maintenance. However, if you live in an area that is supplied with
hard water, it will be necessary to de-scale the kettle periodically.
2 Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the exterior. Do not use abrasive or strong chemical cleaners.
3 Do not immerse the kettle or power base in water or any other liquid.
4 Always ensure that the appliance is disconnected from the mains and completely cool
before cleaning.
Descaling
Note: An excessive build-up of limescale will damage the kettle, and increase the boiling time and
power consumption. Most supermarkets sell tablets, powders or liquids specifically designed to
descale kettles.
1 Fill the kettle to the MAX level with a mixture of one part vinegar and two parts water.
Switch on the kettle and allow the mixure to boil.
2 Keep the lid closed and leave the mixture in the kettle overnight.
3 Empty the kettle the next morning.
4 Fill the kettle to the MAX level with clean water and boil again.
5 Discard this water to remove any remaining scale and vinegar from the kettle.
6 Then rinse the inside of the kettle with clean water before boiling water for consumption.
