Homedoor.uk Standard Barlock Manual

The Barlock®reinforced door bar provides additional protection against unauthorised
breakings into your property. It is suitable for all standard doors made of wood, metal and
plastic.
Not all varieties of use for the Barlock®can be addressed with these fitting instructions. Ask a
dealer if necessary. The optimal protective effect is reached if you proceed according to
these fittings and operating instructions. The mounting screws should be tightened manually
with a suitable tool to avoid over-winding. Prior to fitting, you should ensure that the
reinforced door bar is suitable for the structural circumstances.
The supplier/manufacturer disclaims all liability for any injury or damage caused during
fitting and/or by improper handling!
We recommend allowing a trained specialist installer to execute the fitting if you are not
confident how to install the Barlock®.

STEP 2. –Mounting and fixing the Barlock®body
Mount the Barlock®body in the horizontal position and mark 2 holes for the mounting
screws using the closer holes to the centre of the Barlock® for guidance (Fig 6).
Drill the door at the marked holes for mounting screws (check sizes/diameters of the bolts
prior to drilling).
Insert mounting screws temporarily. Do not tighten them as you will need to remove at
Step 3 to install the protection shields.

STEP 3. - Setting the Barlock®to key removal position.
Pull both locking bars out from the Barlock®body and leave 10mm gaps on both sides
at the edge of door panel. This is the Barlock® in unlocked position.
The gear-racks are now in the correct position at the centre of Barlock®body.
Insert the ABUS D10 lock cylinder. Do not forget, the Barlock® can be used for one/two-
turn locking.
Lock the Barlock®to with one or two full key turns to find the key pull-off position (this is
the locked position of the Barlock®). Place the locking plates/cases in the best positions
to fit (it is useful to mark these positions). The bars should stick out at least 10 mm from
end of the locking plates. Under-lays can be used underneath the plates to fit perfectly,
if it is necessary. Check our web shop to order the right accessories for your Barlock®.
According to best settings, hold onto the marked fitting position of the locking
plates/cases, align vertically in the centre of the door bar. Mark out and fit locking
plates/cases on the both ends with standard screws and wall plugs. Do not over-wind!
Unlock the Barlock® and double check that you are able to remove key. Make sure the
locking bars in the unlocked position are at least 10mm from the door panel on both
sides. If necessary remove lock cylinder and adjust the position of the bars.

STEP 4. - Complete the installation of the cylinder
The key removal position must be set before fitting the lock cylinder inside the Barlock®
body. (Step 3)
Remove the temporarily installed mounting screws to allow you to install the front and
back protection shields to secure the cylinder inside the Barlock® body .
The front shield fits on the outside of the door, and the rear shield fits on the inside of the
door. These should be secured with the mounting bolts from the outside of the door, with
the nuts on the inside. Tighten all the screws. Caution! Do not over-wind
Test locking and unlocking operation of the Barlock® .

VI. Operating instructions
www.homedoor.uk
Close the door initially with the existing closing safety device (door handle). Then
activate the door bar, the Barlock® as an additional protection. Lock the Barlock® by
turning the key once or twice as previously set.
The Barlock®must be fully retracted to the unlocked position before opening the door
to prevent damage on the door panel and frame.
The Barlock®is maintenance-free and does not require any lubricant. Do not use any
aggressive or abrasive cleaning products when cleaning the surfaces. The ABUS care
spray PS88 is suitable for the lock cylinder, this product is available to order from our web
shop.

VII. Useful information, solutions
www.homedoor.uk
Under-lay for the Barlock®body –Wooden board enabling improved assembly position
for doors that open outwards as well as flush doors.
Changing the closing direction - Pull both locking bars out from the Barlock® body and
turn each locking bar upside down (180ohorizontally).
Smooth operating and sliding –Using grease on the gear-tracks will give priceless
benefits while operating the Barlock® .
Best practice for installation:
a) Make sure that there is a stable subsurface and good attachment possibilities.
Anchoring the locking plates/cases to the brickwork is especially recommended.
b) Locking plates/cases should be fitted as close as possible to the door edge, taking
point (a) into account.
c) One-turn locking can suffice with narrow doors.
d) The locking bar should protrude at least 10 mm from the locking plate.
e) Use locking plate with plastic/wooden under lays, when hinge thickness is up to 14
mm. When hinge thickness is above 14 mm, use locking plate/case with screw-on
plate and, if necessary, plastic/wooden under-lays.
f) Avoid a collision between the lock body and the lock case on the hinge side,
install a separate door stopper if possible.
