IMPORTANT
This thermostat may be programmed either before or after installation. If programming before installation,
install a 9 V alkaline battery (purchase separately) in the thermostat, and refer to Owner’s Manual form
number 69-8026 for programming instructions.

PREPARATION
Your new thermostat is compatible with most
24 V furnace systems, and in most cases, should
not require additional accessories for proper opera-
tion. Table 1 lists the exceptions which require an
isolating relay or relay and transformer. Review
Table 1 to determine if your system requires the
accessory. If so, you may use the order form at the
end of this booklet. Detailed relay installation in-
structions are provided along with the accessory.
The isolating relay is a device used for heating
systems where the voltage in the control circuit is
interrupted during part of the furnace’s cycle, cut-
ting off power to the thermostat. The isolating relay
supplies the thermostat with a constant 24 volts,
eliminating any power interruptions to the thermo-
stat. The thermostat then receives its operating
voltage directly from the 24 V transformer, allowing
for operation of your thermostat.

REMOVE OLD THERMOSTAT

thermostat, you may find two wires that go to the
clock terminals on the Chronothermthermostat
wiring wallplate.Disconnect the wires, and wrap
them separately, using electrical tape. Do not wrap
them together. Place the wires where they will not
interfere with the operation of the new thermostat.
Record the colors and terminal designation labels

beneath its matching terminal, and tighten
screw until all wires have been connected.

battery connector onto a 9V alkaline battery
(purchase separately). Place battery in the battery
holder.

CHECK THERMOSTAT

OPERATION
. Do not check heating system operation by
jumperingthermostat terminals at the primary
control. This will damage the thermostat. The
primary control is usually a gas valve, a relay
or burner control
bx located behind the
furnace cover, an Aquastat controller or zone
valve with the thermostat wires connected to
it.
. To avoid pessible compressor damage, do
not operate the cooling system if the outside
temperature is below 50° F [1 O“ C]. See com-
pressor manufacturer’s instructions for further
information.
RESTORE POWER TO THE SYSTEM.
CHECKING HEATfNG OPERATION
1. Hold HEAT button to enter heat temperature 2°
above room temperature.

Let the furnace cycle through one complete
cycle.
If the display goes blank at any time during the
cvcle, see TROUBLESHOOTING section of the
Owner’s Manual.
CHECKING COOLING OPERATION
1. Hold COOL button to enter an air conditioning
temperature 2° below room temperature.
2. Allow the air conditioner to go through one
complete cycle.
3. If the display goes blank at any time during the
cycle, see TROUBLESHOOTING section of the
Owner’s Manual.
