Water Filter Cartridge
The water filter cartridge is located in the back upper right
corner of the refrigerator compartment.
When to Replace the Filter on Models With a
Replacement indicator Light
There is a replacement indicator light fi_r the water filter
cartridge on the dispenser. This light will turn orange to tell you
that you need to replace the filter soon.
The filter cartridge should be replaced when the replacement
indicator light turns red or if the flow of water to the dispenser or
icemaker decreases.
When to Replace the Filter on Models Without a
Replacement Indicator Light
The filter cartridge shoukt be replaced every sixmonths
or earlier if the flow of water to the water dispenser or icemaker
decreases.
Removing the Filter Cartridge
If you are replacing d:e cartridge, first remove d:e old one by
slowly alrning it to the left. Do notDill down o1: the cartridge. A
small amount of water may drip down.
Installing the Filter Cartridge
If you are replacing a

into place. If it does not go all die way back, remove it and
rotate die drive medlanism l/4 turn. Then push die
drawer back again.
important Facts About Your Dispenser
Do not add ice from trays or bags to the storage bin. It may
not crush or dispense well.
Avoid c0verfilling glass with ice and use of narrow glasses.
Backed-up ice can jam the dmtc or cause the door in the
dmte to freeze shut. If ice is blocldng the chute, poke it
through with a wooden spoon.
Beverages and fi0ods shouM not be quick-dlil]ed in die ice
storage bin. Cans, bottles or fi0od pa&ages in die storage bin
may cause die icemakcr or alger to jam.
To keep dispensed ice from missing die glass, put die glass

Some crushed ice may be dispensed even though you selected
CubedThis hal)pens occasionally when a few cubes have been
left in the crusher.

when you have dispensed crushed ice repeatedly: The snow
will eventually evaporate.
The first glass of water dispensed may be warmer than the

Do not wipe the refrigerator with a soiled dish

containing bleach because these products can
scratch and weaken the paint finish.
Cleaning the Inside
Tohe/pprevent odors,leave m_ open box of
baking soda in die refrigerator and freezer
compartments.
Unplug therefrigerator before cleaning.If dfis is
not practiced, wring excess moisture out of
sponge or cloth when cleaning around switches,
lights or controls.
Use warm water and baldng soda solutio_
about a tablespoon (15 ml) of baking soda to a
quart (1 1)of water. This both cleans and
neutralizes odors. Rinse and wipe dry
.Mier cleaning tile door gaskets, apply a thin
layer of petroletml jelly to the door gaskets at
the hinge side. This helps keep the gaskets from
sticldng and bending out
of shape.

During yearly cleaning, remove bottom freezer
pan m_dflush a solution of baking soda 1
teaspoon (5 ml) and 2 cups (500 ml) of hot 9_ot

odor and re&me the likelihood of a clogged
drain line. If drain becomes clogged, use a
meat baster and baking soda solution to fi_rc:e
the clog through the drain line.

Behind the Refrigerator
Be careful when moving the refrigerator away from the w_dl..4J1

coverings and those with embossed surt_aces.
Pull die refrigerator straight out and return it to position by
pushing it straight in. Moving the refrigerator in a side direction
may result in damage to the floor covering or refrigerator.

Preparing for Vacation
For long vacations or absences, remove flood and unplug die
refrigerator. Clean the interior with a baking soda solution of
one tablespoon (15 ml) of baldng soda to one quart (1 1!of water.
Leave the doors open.
Slide the icemaker power switch to the Offposition and shut off
the water supply to the refrigerator.
Preparing to Move

ROLLERS
The rollers have 3 purposes:
[] Rollers adjust so d_e door doses easily when opened about
halfway.

To adjust the milers, remove the base grille by pulling it out at
the bottom.
Turn the roller adjusting screws clockwise to raise the
refrigeratol; counterclockwise to lower it. Use an adjustable
_wench (3/8" hex head bolt) or pliers.
To replace base grille, line up the dips on back of grille
between the bar and the bottom of the cabinet. Push fi)rward
until grille snq)s into place.

INSTALLING THE WATER LINE
BEFOREYOU BEGIN
Recoininended copper water supply kits are WXSX2,
1\'_28X3 or 1\'_28X4, depending on the amount of Ulbing
you need. Approved plastic water supply lines are GE
SmartConnect "_"Refrigerator Tubing (1\'L'_Z08X10002
1\'L'_Z08X10006, 1\'LX08X 10015 and 1\'L'_408X10025).
When connecting your refrigerator m a GE Reverse Osmosis
"_\;amr System, tile only approved installation
is with a GE R\TKit. For other reverse osmosis water systems,
fi)llow tile manufimmrer's recommendations.
If the water supply to tile refrigerator is froln a Reverse
Osmosis Water Filtration System AXD the refrigerator also
has a water filter, use the refrigerator's filter bypass phlg:
[sing the refrigerator's water filtration cartridge in
conjunction with the RO filter call result in hollow ice cubes
and slower water flow from the water dispenser.
This water line installation is not warranted by the
refrigerator or icemaker manufimmrer. Follow these
instructions carefillly to minimize the risk of expensive water
damage.
Water hammer iwater banging ill tile pipes) in house

water leakage or flooding. Call a qualified plumber to correct
water hammer befi)re installing
the water supply line to the refrigerator.
To prevent burns and product damage, do not hook
up the water line to the hot water line.

make sure the icelnaker power switch is in the 0FFposition.
Do not install the icemaker Ulbing in areas where
telnperatures fall below freezing:

code requirements.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
* Cop, per or GE SmartConnect" Refrigerator Tubing kit,
1/4 outer diameter to connect the refrigerator to tile
water supply. If using copper, be sure both ends of the
tubing are cut square.
To determine how much robing you need: measure
the distance from tile water valve on tile back of the
refrigerator to the water supply pipe. Be sure there is
sufficient extra robing to allow the refrigerator to move out
from the wall after installation.

Do not use any other plastic water supply line because the
line is under pressure at all times. Certain types of plastic
w;dlcrack or rupture with age and cause water damage to
your home.
*A GE water supply kit (containing tubing, shutoff valve
and fittings listed below) is available at extra cost froln
your dealer or from Parts and Accessories,

*A cold water supply. The water pressure nmst be between
20 and 120 p.s.i. (1.4 8.2 bar) on models without a water
filter and between 40 and 120 p.s.i. (2.8 8.2 bar) on
models with a water filter.
*Power drill.
* 1/2" or adjustable wrench.
*Straight and Phillips blade screwdriver.
* Two 1/4" outer diameter compression nuts and
2 ferrules (sleeves) to connect the copper tubing
to tile shutoff valve and tile refrigerator water valve.
OR
* If you are using a GE SmartConnect TM Refrigerator
Tubing kit, the necessary fittings are preasselnbled to the
tubing:
* If your existing copper water line has a flared fitting at
the end, you will need an adapter (available at phlmbing
supply stores) to connect the water line to the refrigerator
OR VOU call cut of[" the flared fitting
with a robe cutter and then use a compression fitting Do
not cut fiormed end from GE SmartConnect TM
Refrigerator tubing.
*Shutoffvalve to connect to the cold water line.
Tile shutoff valve should have a water inlet with a
mininmm inside diameter of 5/32" at the point of
connection to the COLD WATER LINE. Saddle-type
shutoff valves are inchlded in many water supply kits.
Before purchasing, make sure a saddle-b3oe valve COlnplies
with your local plumbing codes. Install the shutoff valve
on tile nearest frequently used drinking water line.

i IT1SHUT OFF MAIN WATER SUPPLY
%DRILL THE HOLE FOR THE VALVE
Choose a location fi_rtile wdve that is easily accessible.
It is best to connect into the side of a vertical water
pipe. When it is necessary to connect into a horizontal
water pipe, make tile connection to tile top or side,
rather than at tile bottom,
to avoid drawing off any sediment froln tile
water pipe.
Drill a 1/4" hole in tile water pipe (even if using a self-
piercing valve) using a sharp bit. Relnove any burrs
resulting from drilling tile hole in tile pipe. Take care not
to allow water to drain into the drill. Failure to drill a
1/4" hole may result in reduced ice production or
smaller cubes.

Fasten the shutoff valve to tile cold water pipe with the
pipe clamp.
Tighten tile clalnp screws until tile sealing washer begins
to swell.

Route tile tubing through a hole drilled in tile wall or

NOTE: Be sure there is sufficient extra tubing
to allow tile refrigerator to move out from tile wall after
installation.

Place tile compression nut and ferrule (sleeve) for copper
tubing onto tile end of the robing and co,mect it to the
shutoff valve.
Make sure tile tubing is fiflly inserted into tile valve.

Water dripping as it melts from the evaporator and flows to the drain pan

It is essential that the manufacturer's recommended installation, maintenance and filter replacement requirements be carried out for the product to perform as advertised.

Operating Specifications

General Installation/Operation/Maintenance Requirements
• Flushnewcartridge atfullflow for 1-1/2gallons(aboutthree minutes)to purge
trappedair.
• Replacecartridge when flow becomes too slow.
• Protect from freezing by removing filter cartridge when temperatures are
expected to drop below 55°F(1°C).Donot install sgstems in areas where
ambient temperatures mag go above 100°For below 40°K Do not install
on a hot water supplg.
Special Notices
• Installation instructions are included with the product when shipped.
• This drinking water sgstem must be maintained according to manufacturer's
instructions, including replacement of filter ca rtridges.
• Do not use with water that is microbiologicallg unsafe or of unknown quatitg
without adequate disinfection before or after the sgstem. Sgstems certified for
cgst reduction mag be used on disinfected water that mag contain filterable cgsts.
• The contaminants or other substances removed or reduced bg this water
treatment sgstem are not necessarilg in gour water.
• Check for compliance with the applicable state and local laws and regulations.
• Note that while the testing was performed under standard laboratorg conditions,
actual performance mag varg. Sgstems must be installed and operated in
accordance with manufacturer's recommended procedures and guidelines.
• Installation and use HUST complg with all state and local plumbing codes. Do not
install if water pressu re exceeds 120 psi. If gour water pressure exceeds 80 psi
(552 kPa),gou should install a pressure-limiting valve. Contact a plumbing
professional if gou are uncertain how to check gour water pressure.
• Do not install where water hammer conditions mag occur. If water ha mmer
conditions exist gou must install a water hammer arrester. Contact a plumbing
professional if gou are uncertain how to check for this condition.
• Where a backflow prevention device is installed on o water system, a device for
controlling pressure due to thermal expansion must be installed.
