Chapter 5- Sharing andPrinting Photos
Onceyouhave takensomephotoswithyourHP PhotoSmartC500DigitalCamera,youcanusetheminlots offun
ways.Youcantransferthem toyourIBM-compatibleor Macintoshcomputerfor useincreativeprojects,orfor
sharingwith familyandfriendsviatheInternet.Thecamerasavesphotoson thememorycardinJPEGformatwhich
meansthat youcan use awide varietyof creative software to manipulate thephoto filesonce youhavesaved them
onyourcomputer.IfyouhaveanHPJetSend-capableprinter,suchastheHPPhotoSmartP1000/P1100printer,you
canusethe HPPhotoSmartC500DigitalCamera’sHPJetSend capabilityforwirelessprinting.Ifyour printer hasa
slotfora CompactFlashmemory card,youcan printphotosdirectlyfromyourmemorycard.

Connecting the Camerato Your PC
You can connect your HP PhotoSmart C500 Digital Camera to an IBM-compatible, Windows PC using the USB or
serial cable that comes in the camera package. Before youcan use your camera with your computer, you need to
installthe HPPhotoSmartsoftware.
Note: If you have a Macintosh computer, see “Connecting the Camera to Your Macintosh” on page 101 for more
information.

Installing the Software
1. Insertthe HPPhotoSmartCDintoyourcomputer’sCD-ROMdrive.Theinstallationwindowautomatically
appears.Ifitdoesn’t,useWindowsExplorerorMyComputertolocateyourCD-ROMdrive,thendouble-clickthe
filesetup.exe.
2. Click Next tobeginthe installation,andthenfollowthe instructionsonthe screentoinstallthesoftware.

Your computer’s operatingsystemdetermineswhichtype ofconnection,USBor serial,you canuse toconnect your
camerato yourcomputer. Seethe tableabove.
To connect the camera to your computer:
1. If you are using a serial connection, turn your computer off. If you are using a USB
connection,you donot needtoturnthe computeroff.
2. PlugtheroundendoftheUSB orserialcableintothe camera.

3. Plug theotherendof thecableintotheappropriateportonyour computer.
4. If you are using a serial connection, turn your computer on.
Downloading Photos
Downloadingistheprocessof transferringphotosfromthecamera’smemorycardtoyour computer.Beforeyou
candownloadphotostoyourcomputer,youneed toinstallthesoftwareon yourPC.See “Installingthe Software”
onpage 95 fordetails.
Note: To conservebatterypower,usean ACpower adapterwhenyouare downloadingphotosto yourcomputer.
To download photos:
1. Connect the camera to your computer using the appropriate cable (USB or serial).
2. Turnthe cameraonandturnthecameramodedialto PC.
PC mode transfers control of the camera to your computer.

3. Start theHPPhotoImagingsoftware:
•Double-click the C500 Photo Imaging Software iconon your desktop.
OR
•Click Start,Programs,HP PhotoSmart, C500Camera,C500 Photo Imaging Software.
4. ClickUnload Camera.
5. Thephotoswillbesavedin thefolderlistedin theSave my images to section. If you want to change the
locationof thisfolder,clickthebrowse (...) buttonandchooseanew folder.
6. Ifyouwantto createasub-folderbasedonthe dateandtime,select
In new sub-folder.A newfolderwillbecreatedwithinthe folder
shown in the Save my images to section.
Note: Onceyouare familiarwiththedownloadprocess,youcan
delete photosfromthecameraaftertheyare savedonyour
computer. Select Delete all images from camera after
download.
7. ClickStart.
8. Click Yes to confirm that the images are being saved in the correct
folderandtodownloadthephotos.

Whenyouhavefinisheddownloadingyoucan:
•print your photos
•viewyourphotos
•shareyourphotoswithfamilyandfriendsonthe Internet
Printing Photos
TheHPPhoto Printingsoftwaregivesyou severaloptionsfor printing yourphotos.You cancreateandprintalbum
pageswithphotosofdifferentsizesandorientations,ormakereprintsof yourphotosinstandardsizes.
To print photos from a PC:
1. Start theHPPhoto Imagingsoftware:
•Double-click the C500 Photo Imaging Software iconon your desktop.
OR
•Click Start,Programs,HP PhotoSmart, C500Camera,C500 Photo Imaging Software.

3. Openthephotosyouwantto print:
•Ifyouhave alreadydownloadedphotosfromthecamera,openthe folderwherethephotos
arestored.ClickOpenFiles,navigatetotheappropriatefolder,selectthephotofilesyouwant
toprint,andthenclickOK.
•Ifyouhave notdownloaded thephotosfromthecamerayet,connectthe cameratoyour
PC and click AcquireImages. See thesoftware’sHelp fordetails.
Note: AcquireImagesdoes notsavethe photostoyourcomputer’sharddrive;itdisplaysa
copyforyou toviewand manipulate.Youneedto manuallysaveeachimagefromthesoftware.
4. Choosehowtouse yourphotos:
5. Placeyourphotosontothe albumor reprintspageby draggingthemfromthegallery.
Note: YoucanadjusttheExposure,Color,Rotation,ScalingandSharpness bydouble-clicking onaphotoand
opening the Image Adjustments window. See the software’s Help for details.
6. Click the Print buttontoprintyourphotos.
Note: Forcompleteinformationon theHPPhotoPrintingsoftwarefeatures,clickHelp.
•ClicktheAlbum buttontocreate albumpages.
•Selectthelayout,page sizeandpageorientation,then clickOK.
•ClickthePrints buttonto createstandard sizedreprintsof yourphotos.
•Selectthelayoutandpagesize,then clickOK.
