Description
HP Network Advisor 11.1.5 is a software management platform that provides users with a consistent
user interface across FC and FCoE / DCB along with custom views and controls based on the
users’ areas of specialization. Network Advisor provides users with the utmost flexibility in
deployment and operational models, including traditional SAN deployments (FC) and end-to-end
convergence (FCoE, iSCSI and NAS over DCB). It provides the next evolutionary step from the
previous DCFM software management platform, and is required for management of the new
hardware platforms highlighted below, and any future hardware platforms, as well as for the new
Fabric OS 7.0.0a and later releases.
Hardware platforms
There is now support for the following 16 Gbps hardware platforms:
•HP SN3000B 16Gb FC Switch with up to 24 ports running 4/8/16 Gbps for open systems
•HP SN8000B 8Gb 32-port Enhanced Fibre Channel Blade and HP SN8000B 8Gb 48-port
Enhanced Fibre Channel Blade
•HP SN6000B 16Gb FC Switch with up to 48 ports running 4/8/10/16 Gbps FC for both
open systems and FICON environments.
•HP SN8000B 8-Slot SAN Backbone Director Switch and the HP SN8000B 4-Slot SAN Director
Switch. Both director switches are highly available, modular, and scalable platforms.
•New 16 Gbps Core Blades for the 16 Gbps director switches, enabling twice the slot
bandwidth available in previous generation directors.
•HP SN8000B 16Gb 32-port Fibre Channel Blade and HP SN8000B 16Gb 48-port Fibre
Channel Blade
New software features
SAN Management Feature Enhancements:
•DCB switch support Network Advisor allows users to discover and manage DCB Switches
from the SAN tabs.
•Host views are supported on the SAN Tabs and allow users to discover hosts using a Virtual
Machine Manager (VMM) such as vCenter Server.
•Virtualization now allows users to discover VMs directly from the vCenter.
•Unified ACL management allows users to consistently define and deploy ACLs across different
types of devices.
•Host Connectivity Manager Network Advisor 11.1.3 and later includes HCM 3.0.3 version
for Adapter management.
•ICL Support Support for up to nine SN8000B SAN Director chassis full mesh topology and
up to ten SN8000B SAN Director chassis in a core-edge topology using optical ICLs, beginning
with this release.
NOTE: Certain documents may state a maximum of eight SN8000B chassis for core-edge
topology due to their finalization and release prior to completion of testing that supports the
newer ten chassis maximum.

Network Advisor brings forward the capabilities found in Data Center Fabric Manager (DCFM)
for SAN management with additional features and enhancements:
•Policy monitor allows users to set up best practices for their network and run a test manually,
or on a scheduled basis, to ensure the network conforms to the best practices.
•Frame monitor provides a monitoring mechanism that allows configuring different thresholds
for different types of frames and report events whenever a count for a particular frame type
crosses its respective threshold.
•D_Port: Network Advisor allows users to run optical and electrical loopback and link traffic
tests. Network Advisor also provides digital diagnostics information on 10Gb/16Gb port
optics, such as temperature, Rx/Tx power, bias current, and supply voltage.
•Bottleneck detection allows users to configure the parameters and view the statistics. In addition,
when a bottleneck is detected, Network Advisor allows users to view where the bottleneck is
occurring on topology as well as obtain information on the affected hosts.
•Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) Management Pack populates Microsoft
SCOM with fabric details, switch details, statistics and call home events.
•Selective server support save provides the ability to include or exclude performance and
historical events from the database while capturing server support save from SMC.
•SAN size check: A popup message is displayed when the discovered port/switch/AG count
exceeds the SAN size selected (small/medium/large).
•MD5 checksum validation: MD5 checksum validation is done before importing firmware files
into the repository.
Migration and upgrades
DCFM 10.4.x running on the Linux and Windows operating systems can be upgraded to Network
Advisor 11.1.x. Network Advisor is not supported on the Solaris platform. DCFM 10.4.x running
on the Solaris platform must first migrate to a supported operating system, and then perform the
upgrade to Network Advisor 11.1.x. Earlier versions of DCFM must first be upgraded to DCFM
10.4.x and then upgraded to Network Advisor 11.1.x. Upgrades from DCFM to Network Advisor
11.1.x do not require a new software license key.
Supported switches and firmware
Table 1 (page 5) and Table 2 (page 6) list switches and firmware families supported with HP
Network Advisor 11.1.5. This does not imply that all firmware versions listed in the left column
are still supported by HP, but rather that those are the firmware streams on which the corresponding
switches are, or were, supported. It also does not imply that all the firmware listed in streams is
supported on each of the corresponding switches. HP recommends using the latest software versions
to get the greatest benefit from the SAN.

Installing Network Advisor
This section provides installation instructions for Microsoft Windows and Linux. The Network Advisor
Server runs as multiple services on Windows and multiple processes on Linux; they start automatically
after installation.
NOTE: All versions of DCFM (Data Center Fabric Manager) have entered EOL (End Of Life)
status. Any customers who want to upgrade from DCFM Professional Plus to HP B-series Network
Advisor Enterprise will need to upgrade their DCFM to Network Advisor (available at no charge
at hp.com), and then apply the Network Advisor Professional Plus Upgrade license, TC354A.
NOTE: Install the Network Advisor application on a dedicated machine that is not running any
other server applications, such as another database server.
Installing Network Advisor on Windows (Server)
1. Download and extract the zip archive.
2. Navigate to the Windows folder.
3. Execute install.exe.
4. Follow the screen instructions to complete the installation.
Installing Network Advisor on Linux (Server)
1. Download and extract the tar.gz archive.
2. Navigate to the Linux folder.
3. Execute Install.bin from the File Manager window.
4. Follow the screen instructions to complete the installation.
Launching the Network Advisor Client
To launch the Network Advisor Client on the same local machine as the Network Advisor Server:
For Windows:
1. Select Start > Programs > Network Advisor 11.1.x > Network Advisor 11.1.x.
The client can be launched using the Desktop icon.
2. At the Windows command prompt, go to the location <Install_location>/bin, and
enter dcmclient.
For Linux:
The client can be launched via Desktop icon.
Launch terminal, go to the location <Install_location>/bin, and enter sh dcmclient.
For Windows and Linux, follow the below steps on launching the client from a web browser.
Launching the Network Advisor client from a remote host
1. Open a browser window and enter the Network Advisor server hostname or IP address in the
Address field. For example:
http://NetworkAdvisorServerhost1.companyname.com/
http://192.x.y.z/

2. If a Network Advisor web server port number was specified (instead of the default 80) when
the Network Advisor server was installed, you must specify the port number after the hostname
or IP address. In the following examples, 8080 is the web server port number:

http://192.x.y.z:8080/
The required Client Oracle JRE version is 1.6.0_24. For remote clients, client Oracle JRE must be
installed prior to establishing a server connection.
NOTE: For Linux, if a value less than 1,024 is provided for the database port, the Network
Advisor installer becomes unresponsive at the Initialize Database step of the Configuration
Wizard.
Important notes
Consider the following information before using Network Advisor 11.1.5.
•A correction has been made for the issue described in the next bullet, which is related to
manageability of servers running DCFM 10.4.0, 10.4.1, 10.4.2, 10.4.3, 10.4.4 out of
application memory when managing HP StorageWorks 4/256 SAN Director for several
weeks and resulting in recurring server restarts.
•DCFM 10.4.x cannot manage products running Fabric OS 7.0.0a or later. To manage those
products, upgrade the management application to Network Advisor 11.1.x before upgrading
the products to Fabric OS 7.0.0a or later.
•Host-based standalone SMI agents cannot manage products running Fabric OS 7.0.0a or
later. It requires use of the integrated SMI Agent with Network Advisor 11.1.x.
•While running diagnostic port test, selecting more than one port from the same switch or blade
and running a diagnosis on them simultaneously might result in failure. HP recommends that
you choose only one port at a time from any given switch or blade for running the diagnostic
port test.
•If a fabric has a large zone database or effective zone configuration (approximately 1 MB),
zoning report generation may fail.
•If IPv6 is enabled on the Fabric OS switch, along with the Network Advisor server host, IPv6
is the chosen mode of communication between server and switch.
•When migrating from the DCFM 10.4.x to Network Advisor 11.1.x, the corresponding DCFM
application service is expected to be up and running. The GUI message shown when the
DCFM server is not running prompts the user to start the Network Advisor service rather than
the DCFM application service.
•When any FC switch is upgraded from 6.4.x to 7.x.x firmware and downgraded again to
6.4.x, DCFM 10.4.x, servers will show a caution badge on switches and the discovery status
will not reflect the reason for this status.
•Firmware upgrades performed with Network Advisor on the HP StorageWorks 2408 FCoE
Converged Network Switch are disruptive to I/O on the HP StorageWorks 2408 FCoE
Converged Network Switch.
•SCOM Plug-in is non-functional. The SCOM (Microsoft's Systems Center Operation Manager)
plug-in that allows fabric inventory information collected by the management application to
be displayed on the Microsoft console is non-functional. The temporary workaround for this
issue follows:
NOTE: The following steps are based on a new installation of Network Advisor, but can be
modified accordingly for existing installations. Additionally, this procedure is based on using
the Brocade-branded SCOM plug-in.

1. Install the Brocade Network Management pack in SCOM 2007 R2.
2. Install the HP-branded HP B-series Network Advisor server and then modify the following
line in the file C:\Program Files (x86)\HP B-series SAN Network Advisor
11.1.5 \conf\version.properties as shown:
◦Modify from: product.HP.displayname=HP B-series SAN Network
Advisor
◦to: product.HP.displayname=Network Advisor
3. Restart the HP-branded HP B-series Network Advisor server.
4. Perform all other prerequisites for the SCOM Plug-in, such as managing the Network
Advisor server host from the SCOM server and installing the SCOM Console on the
Network Advisor server host.
Removing switches
If you plan to segment and remove more than two switches from a fabric and you have “Historical
performance collection” enabled, HP recommends that you accept changes after each Switch
segmentation from the client rather than doing it together or switch off track fabric changes.
Secure Fabric OS fabrics cannot be discovered from Network Advisor
Network Advisor does not support Secure Fabric OS (SFOS). If you try to discover the fabric,
Network Advisor displays the error message Discovery Failed. You must remove the secure
Fabric OS settings and change back to a normal fabric before discovering it from Network Advisor.
Display of Logical switches
If you create logical switches through the Logical Switch dialog box, the logical switch displays
under undiscovered Logical Switch in the existing Logical Switches Panel. You must rediscover the
newly created logical switch fabric.
Destination columns are blank for HP StorageWorks Encryption SAN Switch in top talkers dialog
When the Top Talkers dialog box is launched for the HP StorageWorks Encryption SAN Switch,
the columns Destination,Destination port, and Destination switch port are sometimes empty.
Firmware download through SCP Server
If you use the Windows-based SCP Server, firmware download fails for the switches. HP recommends
that you use the Linux-based SCP Server.
DCFM to Network Advisor remote migration is not supported
Remote migration is not supported by Network Advisor. HP recommends that you first migrate from
DCFM 10.3.x / 10.4.x to another DCFM 10.3.x / 10.4.x server, and then migrate to Network
Advisor.
Remote clients not allowed for incompatible JRE versions
Starting with Network Advisor 11.1.5, remote clients will not be allowed for incompatible JRE
versions other than JRE 1.6. If the server where the remote client is launched has JRE 1.7, a security
warning message stating the certificate expired may appear. Customers can ignore the message
and continue to operate normally. Alternatively, to prevent the error message, uninstall JRE 1.7,
and then continue.
Privilege names
Privilege names are displayed in the Role Management dialog with SAN –prefixes. After migration
from an older version, new privilege names are displayed in the role Management dialog with
these prefixes.

Wrapper log files
The rollover of wrapper log files may cause the server running on Linux to crash. If this issue is
encountered, the user is required to terminate the dcmsvc process from the task manager and
restart the server from the Server Console.
Manually assigning hosts to users
If a custom AOR (Area of Responsibility) without any hosts included is manually assigned to a
defined user, and all hosts are displayed in the topology to that user. However, deleting or updating
hosts is not reflected in the topology for that user until the Client is restarted.
Moving DCB products form one fabric to another
If DCB products move from one fabric managed by Network Advisor to another managed fabric,
the VLAN Management dialog is not populated with the configuration for those products.
Configuring SSL
When configuring Network Advisor in SSL enable mode in the application configuration wizard,
ensure that both HTTP and HTTPS ports are free and available for Network Advisor. Currently the
application checks only if the HTTPS configured port is available and not the HTTP port.
Import may fail
A change in the driver version 3.0 parsing boot images before an import causes the import to fail
in Network Advisor 11.1.0 stating Invalid boot image code file. The issue is resolved
in Network Advisor 11.1.1, but users will see the same issue in the migrated server from Network
Advisor 11.1.0 to 11.1.2. As a workaround, remove boot image files having version numbers
greater than or equal to 3.0 from the repository and re-execute the import.
Port disable/enable operation may fail
The Port disable/enable operation on physical TE-Ports may fail in the following scenarios:
•Disabling the virtual FCoE ports of DCB switches of the corresponding physical TE-Ports through
the CLI/Web Tools
•Removing the FCoE device connected to the ports
DCB asset collection will fail if the trunks are configured for the TE-ports. Users will not get updates

Network Advisor server startup and restart can take up to 10 or so minutes to complete.

Support Saves may take a long time with large databases
As databases grow larger from Event, sFlow, and Performance Collector data, the support save
operation may take a long time to run. Larger databases promote longer support save operations.
Make sure you have a minimum of 20–GB disk space for support save and backup operations.

Client disconnects
Under heavy server load or degraded network links, there is a potential for the Network Advisor
client to disconnect from the server. The workaround is to restart the client.
SMI Agent
If SMI client queries CIMOM server for more than one fabric, and if each fabric has a large zone
database (~1MB), then Enumerate Instances operation on
Brocade_ZonemembershipsettingdataInZone fails. In this scenario, HP recommends that
you use the association traversal approach via Brocade_Fabric to retrieve the larger zone databases.
SMI alert indication BRCD60 is not sent out to SMI clients if Fabric OS switches are discovered
but SNMP trap registration has failed. Ensure that the Network Advisor server is successfully
registered for traps on all switches.
If DCB switches are running Fabric OS 6.3.x, VLAN/ACL deployment through SMI-A fails. You
must upgrade the DCB Fabric OS to 6.4.x/7.0.0a for VLAN/ACL deployment support through
the SMI Agent.

Indications delivery depends on SAN Size and SNMP registration
The time to deliver the indication varies, based on Network Advisor SAN size selected during
installation. If a large SAN size is selected, indication delivery time is longer.
Provider classes may take more time to update the fabric changes if the switches managed in
Network Advisor are not SNMP registered. All the switches managed in Network Advisor should
be SNMP registered to avoid the delay in indication delivery.
Logging for CIMOM
The default logging level is INFO in the integrated Agent. To change the logging level to DEBUG,
update the com.brocade category value in the cimom-log4j.xml file located in the
<Installation Dir>\conf folder.
The log file size and number of log files can also be changed by modifying the file rolling appender
parameters in this cimom-log4j.xml file.
Logging Level, File size, and Number of Log files can be changed by modifying the following
fields:Log Level,File Size, and Number of Files from Configuration Tool through the
CIMOM tab.
Service Location Protocol (SLP) support
The Management application SMI Agent uses Service Location Protocol (SLP) to allow applications
to discover the existence, location, and configuration of WBEM services in enterprise networks.
You do not need a WBEM client to use SLP discovery to find a WBEM Server; that is, SLP discovery
might already know about the location and capabilities of the WBEM Server to which it wants to
send its requests. In such environments, you do not need to start the SLP component of the
Management application SMI Agent.
However, in a dynamically changing enterprise network environment, many WBEM clients might
choose to use SLP discovery to find the location and capabilities of other WBEM Servers. In such
environments, start the SLP component of the Management application SMI Agent to allow
advertisement of its existence, location, and capabilities.
SLP installation is optional and you can configure it during Management application configuration.
Once installed, SLP starts whenever the Management application SMI Agent starts.
Management SMI Agent SLP application support includes the following components:
•The slpd script, which starts the slpd platform
•The slpd program acts as a Service Agent (SA). A different slpd binary executable file exists
for UNIX and Windows systems.
•The slptool script, which starts the slptool platform-specific program
•The slptool program can be used to verify whether SLP is operating properly. A different slptool
exists for UNIX and Windows.
By default, the Management application SMI Agent is configured to advertise itself as a Service
Agent (SA). The advertised SLP template shows its location (IP address) and the WBEM Services
it supports. The default advertised WBEM services show the Management application SMI Agent,
which:
•Accepts WBEM requests over HTTP without SSL on TCP port 5988
•Accepts WBEM requests over HTTPS using SSL on TCP port 5989
