MAINTENANCE OF YOUR TRIMMER
ON COMPLETION OF TRIMMING
Cleangrassfromunder deck. Remove any
leavesorgrasscuttings from around the engine
coolingfins,carburettorand impeller air openings.
AIR FILTER MAINTENANCE
●YourTecumseh engine isequipped with adry
papercartridge air filter.
●Every10 operating hourscheck condition of
papercartridge.
●Every50 operating hours(or more regularly)
replacethe paper cartridge.(see Air Filter
CleaningInstructions number 1).
●Donot attempt towash, clean oroil the paper
cartridge.
●Ifengine is operatingin dustyordirty areas,the
airfilter system willrequire more frequent
Air Filter Cleaning Instructions
(seeillustration)
1. Turncover (3) (anti-clockwise) andremove it
andfilter (2) from flange(1). Discard paper
cartridge.
2. Cleancover and flangethoroughly.
3. Insertnew cartridge (2) ontoflange (1).
4. Positioncover (3) against flange(1) with tab (4)
oncover inserted intoslot (5) in flange(1).
5. Pushcover firmly againstflange andturn it
(clockwise)as far asit will go. Besure
retainersare locked aroundflange.
COOLING SYSTEM AIR INTAKE
1. Whencleaning the aircleaner, alsocheck and
cleanthe debris guardusing a softbrush.
2. Ifdebris guard isvery dirty,unscrew wing nut
andremove debris guardand filter.
3. Washfilter in cleansoapy water,rinse, wrap in
aclean dry clothand ‘squeeze dry’.
4. Re-assembleensuring that therecoil rope
passesthrough the slotin the foamfilter.
FAULT FINDING HINTS
SPARK PLUG
Anoily or carbonedspark plug makesstarting dif-
ficultand decreases theefficiency of theengine.
Periodicallyremove the sparkplug and cleanand
adjustwhen necessary. Gap setting0.030”
WINTER CARE
CUTTING LINE
The cutting line is sharp, wear gloves and
take care when handling it.
Check the cutting line frequently during
use and on completion of trimming.
Removing the Cutting Line
Switch machine off and disconnect spark plug
lead.
Push the line towards the centre of the cutting
disc and carefully remove. See Fig 3.
DIFFICULT TO START
Checkthatthestart/stopswitchisinthe‘start’position.
Ensureholeintankcapisclean.
Fuelmixturemaybestale(e.g.longtimesince
trimmerwasused). Renewwithfreshmixture.
Checkthatcorrectamountof2strokeoilisbeing
usedinthefuelmixture.
Checkthatthecuttingdiscissecurelytightened.
POOR FLOTATION OR
LACK OF POWER
ENGINE OVERHEATING
EXCESSIVE VIBRATION
Check that the cutting disc is securely fastened
and undamaged.
Tighten all external bolts and screws.
Check crankshaft - it may have bent.

Neveroperatetheenginewithoutthedebrisguard
andfilterbeingfitted. Failure to fit the debrisguard
andfilterwillcause premature engine failure.
Fortrouble-free trimming nextseason, make
surethat your trimmeris serviced immediately
afterthe last cutof the year,as follows:-
Whenthe engine iscold, drain allfuel from the
tankand then runthe engine untilit stops. (Fuel
leftin the machinebecomes stale andcauses
difficultstarting). Thoroughlycleanallexternal
partsofthetrimmer. Clean airfilter (see airfilter
maintenance).
Inspect,clean and replacespark plug.
Donot replace sparkplug lead.
Checkand replace cuttinglines.
Storethe trimmer ina dry, damp-proofsecure
areaout of thereach of children.

Atall times theamount of lineextending beyond
theedge of discshould be ofan even length. If
thereis a variationof more thanhalf an inch
betweenthe four lengthsof line replace
immediatelywith four fullnew lengths.
Important:- Only fit four cutting lines at any
one time
Check flow of air over cylinder. Remove all
grass and dirt. Check correct fuel mixture.
Thoroughly clean Debris Guard.
A full warranty statement is detailed on the
service literature, and with the Tecumseh
engine literature supplied with this product.
Check correct fuel mixture is used.
Ensure underside of deck is clean.
Airfilter mayneedcleaning(seeair filter
maintenance).
Ensure exhaust port on silencer does not have
excessive build-up of carbon.
Remove disc/impeller and clean thoroughly
between vanes.

Removebolt(A1),springwasher(A2),washer
(A3),cuttingdisc(A4) andspacer(A5) (iffitted).
2. Carefullyremoveimpeller(A6) fromengineshaft.
3. Selectrequiredheight of cut, (See Figs B, C, D &
E) andreplace any cutting lines required,ensuring
thatcuttinglineis fittedon correctsideofcuttingdisc.
●Important:- Cutting line must be on the side
of the disc facing the grass when fitted.
4. Replaceimpeller(A6) ontoengineshaftensur-
ingthatitiscorrectlylocated. Replacespacer
(A5) (iffitted),cuttingdisc(A4),washer(A3),
springwasher(A2) andbolt(A1).
5. Secureassemblywithbolt(A1),makingsure
completeassemblyistight,(ifindoubt,contact
yourservicedealer).

Donot sand blastthe spark plugto clean it.
Removespark plug leadand spark plug.
Renewing the Cutting Line
Holding the line with thumb and forefinger and
using other thumb as a guide, curve around
centre portion of the cutting disc (as illustrated
in Fig 4) and thread through the hole on the
rim of the cutting disc.
Carefully pull the line into place as
illustrated in Fig. 5.
