Converting CR5020 HSRF-500
(USB) to HSRF-502 (RS232)
Connect RS232 cable and Power Supply
9. Connect RS232 cable
a. Use a paperclip through pinhole under scanner to depress clip securing connected
cable
i. While applying slight pressure with the paperclip, pull the USB cable straight
out
b. A RS232 cable and Power supply for HSRF Scanners is required. This cable and power
supply can be purchased through ABC Fitness Procurement from Huzzard
c. Plug the Power supply connector into the RS232 cable barrel connector
d. Plug the RS232 cable connector into the scanner
i. When fully inserted, you should hear a slight click
e. Connect the RS232 9 pin connector (DB9) to the PC
i. If using a Startech RS232 to USB adapter, Plug the DB9 connector into the
Startech adapter, then plug the USB connector of the Startech adapter into
an available USB port on the computer
ii. If connecting directly to a port on the computer, plug the DB9 connector
directly into the computers 9 pin COM port

11. Configure Putty
a. In Serial Line select the COM port the scanner is connected to
b. In Speed enter 9600
c. Select Open
d. If you receive an error and the terminal window does not open, confirm you are
attempting to open the correct COM port.
12. Test scan key tags into open Putty Terminal
