Follow the steps below to convert your CR5020 HSRF-500 (USB) to a HSRF-502
(RS232).
Prerequisites
1. Login to Huzzard ABC Tech Support Portal
a. https://huzzard.com/tech-support/tech-support-500/
1) If you do not have access to the Tech Support portal, contact ABC Fitness
Tech Support for assistance
2. Select the HSRF-500 USB Option
3. Select CR5020 Tab
4. Download Document 051022-03

Resetting Scanner
5. Unlocking Scanner
a. If your HSRF-500 reader was purchased after August 2019, Scan this barcode to
unlock:
b. If your presentation reader was purchased before August 2019, scan this barcode to
unlock:
If the incorrect unlock code is scanned, the scanner will beep 5 times in error.
If this error is received, attempt scanning the other unlock code.

6. Loading Factory Defaults
a. Scan the following barcode to load factory defaults
i. After scanning, the scanner will beep once, 8-10 second pause, then
beep two more times
i. If you received 3 rapid beeps, confirm the scanner is unlocked
Programming Scanner as HSRF-502
7. Scan Programming Barcode
a. After scanning, the scanner will beep multiple times and reboot
i. If the scanner beeps 3 times in error, confirm the scanner is unlocked
8. Lock Reader
a. Lock reader by scanning the lock barcode below

Connect RS232 cable and Power Supply
9. Connect RS232 cable
a. Use a paperclip through pinhole under scanner to depress clip securing connected
cable
i. While applying slight pressure with the paperclip, pull the USB cable straight
out
b. A RS232 cable and Power supply for HSRF Scanners is required. This cable and power
supply can be purchased through ABC Fitness Procurement from Huzzard
c. Plug the Power supply connector into the RS232 cable barrel connector
d. Plug the RS232 cable connector into the scanner
i. When fully inserted, you should hear a slight click
e. Connect the RS232 9 pin connector (DB9) to the PC
i. If using a Startech RS232 to USB adapter, Plug the DB9 connector into the
Startech adapter, then plug the USB connector of the Startech adapter into
an available USB port on the computer
ii. If connecting directly to a port on the computer, plug the DB9 connector
directly into the computers 9 pin COM port
Testing
10. Open Putty
11. Configure Putty
a. In Serial Line select the COM port the scanner is connected to
b. In Speed enter 9600
c. Select Open
d. If you receive an error and the terminal window does not open, confirm you are
attempting to open the correct COM port.
12. Test scan key tags into open Putty Terminal

13. Confirm data output is similar to the below image
If data is outputting into the Putty Terminal and is comparable to the image above, you have
successfully converted your CR5020 HSRF-500 (USB) to a HSRF-502 (RS232), and you are now ready to
configure Hardware Services on the connected PC.
