5. Virtual COM
If the Virtual COM function has been selected in the device menu (see Section 3.9), it is possible to
send the data read directly to the PC for subsequent processing.
By connecting the device to the PC by USB cable, if the I-Read:PC
connection has been successful, on the main screen, the bar over the
icon symbol relative to the serial connection will disappear.
If necessary, the “iRead.inf” driver available on the Royal Tag Animal
Division website in the Download section must be installed.
To be able to directly see the scanned data, it is also possible to use Hyper Terminal. For correct
operation it is essential to open the connection through Hyper Terminal, associating the correct COM
port assigned to the I-Read device and setting the NO FLOW CONTROL option.
The connection with the PC does not compromise the scanning functionalities of the I-Read, whose
menu functions are also accessible for any modifications.
Below a Hyper Terminal window with 4 scanned codes of which 2 are decimal codes and 2 are
hexadecimal codes can be seen.
4. Download the Mass Storage mode data
Download reader stored data is possible only if Mass Storage function is
activated (see paragraph 3.9).
In this case, by connecting the USB cable to the PC, a window with
the file CODE.txt containing the list of the scanned codes opens
automatically.
The text format allows you to easily export the codes for storing in the
database.
The information available in sequence is:
- Registration number in the internal memory of the scanner
- Type of FDX-B/HDX tag
- Country code (4 digits)
- Identification code
- Type of tag indicated with the letter A (A=1 indicates animal)
- Animal species, indicated with the letter S
