Introduction
The I-O PRO|EDGE® VSR is esigne to be an affor able solution to allow Standard
Definition (640X480 an 320X240) streaming an recor ing of various events.
Base on the Windows XP® (XPe) Embedded Operating System, the VSR utilizes
Windows® Media Encoder 9 to enco e, stream, an recor capture vi eo an au io.
The XPe Operating System an associate program files all resi e on a 2GB Flash
Drive. The 250GB Internal Har Drive is reserve solely for recor e me ia files.
Shoul the har rive become full or fail, the VSR will continue to operate as it boots
from the flash rive.
Through Profiles create via the VSR's browser-base Profile Manager, an operator
can choose to stream an /or recor at various bit rates an resolutions. To access the
Profile Manager Interface, see page 9 of this Users Gui e.
Once the VSR Profiles are create , all functions can be performe via the LCD Front
Panel Interface. However, a vance users who esire higher resolutions an bit rates
may attach a monitor, keyboar , an mouse to the VSR an manually run Win ows®
Me ia Enco er 9. (A vance Users see page 21)

Getting Started
Prior to connecting vi eo an au io to the I-O PRO|EDGE® VSR, network connectivity
must be configure an the streaming an /or recor ing profiles must be create .
1. Plug a network cable into the VSR's RJ45 Network Port on the back of the VSR.
2. Plug the power a apter into the back of the VSR
3. Power on the VSR by pressing the silver power button on the front of the VSR. A
blue LED light will illuminate the power button. Shoul a blue LED not illuminate,
check all power connectivity.
After the unit is boote an operational, the front LCD Panel will appear as shown in
LCD Figure 001 below.

Configuring Network
The VSR operates virtually i entical to a stan ar Win ows XP-base networke
workstation. Factory Default settings for the network a apter is set to obtain it's IP
A ress automatically from the local network via DHCP.
When the VSR initially boots, it will show its IP A ress on the thir line of the initial
LCD screen. If no IP A ress is assigne , either automatically or static, the thir line will
be blank an the “Network” LED light on the front panel will be re .
If a Static P Address nee s to be assigne , then a network a ministrator woul
connect to the VSR either manually or via RDP (Remote Desktop Session).
Manual Connection: To connect to the VSR manually, simply connect a monitor,
keyboar , an mouse to the VSR an configure its Static IP A ress like any other
workstation on their network.
Remote Desktop Connection: If the VSR is alrea y connecte to a network with a
vali IP A ress, an A ministrator can connect to it via a stan ar Remote Desktop
Client. The login cre entials for the VSR Desktop is:
Username = stream
Passwor = ProEdge (case sensitive with Capital “P” an “E”)
Once connecte to the XPe Desktop of the VSR, an A ministrator may configure the
Network as esire through the Network Connections area of the Control Panel.

Streaming and Recording Profiles
The Streaming and Recording Profiles efine how the VSR operates uring an
enco ing session. The profiles efine the following:
1. Video and Audio Quality
•Low = 150 kbps
•Me ium = 450 kbps
•High = 750 kbps
2. Video Size
•640 X 480
•320 X 240
3. Recorded File Format
•Win ows Me ia Vi eo (.wmv)
•Flash Vi eo File (.flv)
4. Streaming Format
•Win ows Me ia Server
•Flash Streaming Server
5. Streaming Destination
•Push Stream to Server
•Stream Directly From VSR (not recommen e if more than 5 viewers
are watching the stream)
6. Video nput Format
•Composite Vi eo
•S-Vi eo
Profiles can be create where a session can be streame an recor e at the same
time. For example, a profile can be set to recor to a local file, stream to a Win ows
Me ia Server, an allow streams to be pulle from the evice.
NOTE: The format and quality of the stream and recorded files must match. For
example, one cannot simultaneously stream at a Low Quality 320 X 240 resolution an
recor at a High Quality 640 X 480 resolution. Also, one cannot simultaneously stream
to a Win ows Me ia Server an recor in a Flash Vi eo (.flv) format.
7

Factory Default Profiles
From the factory, three(3) profiles have been create on the VSR. Each profile may be
viewe , mo ifie , an elete . They have been provi e as working examples so the
VSR can be functional right out of the box..
These profiles are as follows:
1. RecordOnly: This profile does not require a network connection as it is not
streaming an it creates a .wmv ate/time stampe file onto the internal har
rive. This profile is set to recor at High Quality an at 640X480 resolution.
2. DeviceStream: This profile does require a network connection. In the absence of
a streaming server, the VSR itself can act as the streaming server. Viewers must
have access to the same network to which the VSR is connecte . For example,
by using the sample IP A ress shown in LCD Figure 001, one woul view the
stream by opening up a Win ows Me ia Player on a remote machine an open
the following URL: http://10.1.1.101:8080 (Make special note of port 8080)
This profile is set to broa cast at Me ium Quality at 640 X 480 resolution.
3. nternetStream: This profile is not complete. It is a template that requires both a
network connection an vali cre entials for either a Win ows Streaming Server
or a Flash Me ia Server. It is currently set to broa cast at Me ium Quality at 640
X 480 resolution.
8

Profile Manager
Profiles are manage via the VSR's browser-base Profile Manager which can be
accesse by:
1) Remotely access the VSR by typing it's IP a ress into a browser's a ress
bar (i.e. http://10.1.1.101), or
2) Locally connecting a monitor, keyboar , an mouse to the VSR an running
Internet Explorer an typing http://localhost into the a ress bar.
Upon successfully connecting to the Profile Manager, you will see the following screen
in the browser:
9

Managing Profiles
Once connecte to the Profile Manager, select the 'Manage Profiles' tab to e it an
elete current profiles or select the 'Create Profile' tab to create a new profile. Upon
selecting a profile to manage, the following screen will be isplaye :
The programming behin this screen prevents the mixing of ifferent formats (Win ows
Me ia an Flash). When pushing the Vi eo an Au io to a Win ows Me ia or Flash
Streaming Server, verify the server a ress an login cre entials before entering into
the Profile Manager.
10

Managing YouTube® Accounts
After a Win ows Me ia or Flash Vi eo has been recor e to the VSR har Drive, that
vi eo can be irectly uploa e from the VSR to YouTube®.
The requirements for a successful uploa are:
1. A vali YouTube® Username an Passwor . Please note that vi eos longer
than 10 minutes will require a pai subscription to YouTube®.
2. A goo connection to the Internet without Firewall blocks. As some
corporate network polices prevent access to YouTube®, firewall rules will
prevent one from uploa ing vi eos to YouTube.
Select the “Manage YouTube Accounts” tab in the Profile Manager to create the
YouTube uploa profiles:
Multiple YouTube profiles can be create . For Example, if the VSR is being use in an
e ucational setting, each instructor may setup their own YouTube Profile on the VSR.
This woul allow the instructor to uploa their own lecture to the proper YouTube
Account.
11

Connecting Video and Audio
Prior to streaming an /or recor ing, one must connect an active vi eo an au io
source.
V DEO: The VSR has 3 composite vi eo inputs an 1 s-vi eo input. Each can be use ,
though not simultaneously. The VSR software is setup only to stream an recor from
one of the four inputs at a time. The port that is use is etermine by the “Vi eo Input”
option selecte when creating a profile in the Profile Manager.
With the current version Win ows Me ia Enco er an the VSR Software, switching
between ifferent inputs uring an enco ing session is not possible.
When creating a profile in the Profile Manager, the efault vi eo connection is the
Composite 1 input port.
AUD O: When connecting the au io source to the VSR, use the blue “Au io Line IN”
port. This is the port typically use when receiving an au io fee from an external
source.
MPORTANT: To prevent damage to the internal audio components on the
motherboard, DO NOT plug an amplified signal into the VSR Audio Line n Port.
As with any PC device, plugging an amplified signal into a standard PC Line in
Port will cause damage. -O Corporation strongly recommends utilizing an
external audio mixer and then feeding the audio signal into the blue “Audio Line
N” port.
12

Streaming and Recording
After successfully configuring the network connection, creating profiles in the Profile
Manager, an connecting the proper vi eo an au io sources, the VSR can be
completely operate via the front panel LCD interface.

The settings in the in ivi ual profiles will etermine whether the VSR is “pushing” a
stream to a streaming server, recor ing a vi eo file to the har rive, or allowing
streams to be “pulle ” irectly from the VSR. LCD Figure 003 in the next section shows
the status screen uring a successful Vi eo Streaming session.
13

Recorded File Names
When the recor option has been selecte in a profile, the file name that will be written
to the VSR har rive will be isplaye on the LCD Screen. The filename will
correspon to the ate an time the recor ing began. For example, LCD Figure 003
in icates that the recor e file was ma e on January 18, 2010 @ 9:21 pm.
This is the filename that will be isplaye when eleting files, copying files to a USB
stick, viewing a vi eo in playback mo e, or uploa ing files to YouTube via the front
panel.
LCD Figure 003
Stream Names
When pushing a stream to a Win ows Me ia Server, the status screen will in icate the
name of that stream. For example, if the stream being shown in LCD Figure 003 above
ha been configure to push to stream.iocorp.com, then users on the Internet coul
watch the stream by starting Win ows Me ia Player an opening up the URL:
http://stream.iocorp.com/VChassis
14

Video Playback
The Vi eo Playback option on the Main Menu is only available if an external VGA
monitor an speakers have been connecte to the VSR. Without an external VGA
monitor, one woul either have to copy a vi eo to a USB rive an watch it on another
computer, or uploa it to YouTube for viewing.
