5.1 Ambient conditions
The temperature values given below refer to the outer device temperature of the camera housing. The
temperature inside of the camera housing is generally higher than the outer temperature and may be up to
70 °C (158 °F).
Device temperature during operation
0 °C … 55 °C
32 °F … 131 °F
Device temperature during storage
-20 °C … 60 °C
-4 °F … 140 °F
Humidity
20 % … 80 %, relative, non-condensing
Non-condensing means that the relative air humidity must be below100 %. Otherwise, moisture will form on
the camera surface. If, for example, air has a relative humidity of 40 % at 35 °C (95 °F), the relative humidity
will increase to over 100 % if the air cools down to 19.5 °C (67 °F); condensation begins to form.
CAUTION! As the camera housing may get hot depending on the operating conditions there
may be risk of burns. Provide sufficient heat dissipation so that the housing temperature does
not exceed 55 °C (131 °F).
Notes on ambient conditions
·
Avoid high air humidity levels and rapid temperature changes when using IDS cameras.
·
Temperatures below+4 °C (39 °F) combined with excessive relative air humidity levels can cause icing.
Provide sufficient heat dissipation so that the specified device temperature is not exceeded during operation.
In general, the following recommendations apply:
·
For a passive heat dissipation, mount the camera on a thermally-conductive surface like a metal plate or a
heat sink.
·
If necessary, provide an active cooling for example by means of a fan.
With increasing device temperatures, the image quality could be reduced due to thermal noise. It is
recommended to mount the camera to a heat-dissipating unit even if the camera is operated belowthe
maximum specified temperature.

As supplied, the camera attempts to get an IP address from a DHCP server in the network.
DHCP
The camera is assigned a valid IP address by the DHCP server. You can log on to the camera using the IDS
NXT cockpit and set the network parameters.
The PC network card must be in the same subnet as the camera to find the camera via the
IDS NXT cockpit.
Zeroconf
In an IPv4 network with no DHCP server, the camera in DHCP mode uses the Zeroconf method to
independently acquire a valid IP address from the reserved link-local address range. You can use the IDS
NXT cockpit to assign a different IP address to the camera. You can then to log on to the camera and set the
network parameters.
Static IP address
After logging on to the camera, you can assign a static IP address in IDS NXTcockpit, see Network
configuration in IDS NXTcockpit.
8.3 Starting IDS NXT cockpit

You have the possibility that you upload a SSL certificate to the camera and establish a secure connection
between the host PC and the camera. The following certificate types can be used:
·
Self-signed certificate
This consists of a private key and a certificate file with a public key and details of the certificate. The server
must know the private key and the certificate file. On the client side, each self-signed certificate must be
trusted separately.
·
CA-signed certificate (CA = certificate authority)
For this certificate type, first a certificate is created for the certification authority. The CA certificate itself is
a self-signed certificate consisting of a private key and the certificate file. The CA's private key is required
to sign the server certificate. Multiple server certificates can be created for different devices. These server
certificates also consist of a new private key and the original server certificate, which is signed by the CA.
For uploading to an IDS NXTcamera, you need an encrypted SSL package (*.NXT_SSL). You create this via
<%NXT-IDE%> using a script.

If you use an SSL certificate, it is not necessary to make any further settings for IDS Vision
Cockpit, as IDS NXTcockpit uses a secure connection.
