Congratulations on your purchase of the Incept K50D Pacific Dual Inflatable Sea Kayak!
An inflatable sea kayak which weighs just 22 kg and packs down to an ultra compact 90L -
inclusive of pump, decks, seats, pedals and rudder! And will carry an impressive load of 220
kg of crew and gear! And once familiar with the adjustments and fittings, you should take
less than 10 minutes to assemble!
There has been universal acclaim and reports of speed and handling comparable with well
known hard-shell kayaks. And because the decks are readily removable, it is a simple matter
to stow expedition gear.
Surprisingly strong and stable, the K50D Pacific will handle big seas and survive impacts
which would break many rigid hulls. Made of durable reinforced polyurethane alloy, given
basic care the boat material will take the knocks and give exceptional service.

Spend a moment in getting the boat flat with the sides turned in a little (1).
Fold the kayak from the bow to expel all air (2 & 3) then re-roll from the stern to protect the
valves (4 - 7) and get the bundle smaller. Kneel on the bundle as you go. Secure the package
with the compression strap supplied (8).
A little time spent in learning how to roll your boat properly will be most worthwhile.
Most damage to inflatable boats occurs off the water when in the folded state. Folded corners
which are dragged on hard ground can be expected to hole. In particular be careful with the
folded package where the internal parts of the valves protrude against the boat material. Do not
lay such a bump down on, say, the deck of a moving truck.
REPAIRS:
A basic repair kit of boat material and adhesive is included with the boat.
The adhesive requires warm and dry working conditions for best results. Preparation of a
permanent repair is as follows:-
$Cut a patch to fit the repair leaving 25mm (1") edge distance to the hole. Round corners
for appearance and resistance to lifting.
$Dry the surfaces and clean with a solvent damped cloth. M.E.K. is preferred. Acetone and
some other thinners work too, but can affect the surface of the boat material if over done.
The purpose is to remove dirt and surface plasticiser which inhibit glue adhesion.
$Position the patch and mark the outline on to the boat with a pencil.
$Brush glue on to both surfaces. Do not over brush as the glue will drag and become
lumpy. Allow to dry 15 minutes, more in cool conditions.
$Place the patch and heat - warm to the touch - if necessary using a hair dryer or hot-air
gun. Heat activates the glue, providing an instant and permanent bond. Apply pressure to
the patch while warm. A portable camp cooker is a useful warming tool for on-trip repairs
in adverse conditions - but do not overheat.
Temporary repairs can be effected without heat or solvent if the patch is applied before one
of the glued surfaces is dry, i.e. while still slightly tacky.
WARRANTY
INCEPT’s K series inflatable kayaks in non-commercial use are guaranteed for a period of
five years from date of purchase. Any manufacturing defects in materials or workmanship
found during the warranty period will be made good by Incept Marine Ltd at no cost,
provided only that the boat is returned to the nearest Incept repair station, freight paid. Call
the dealer from whom you purchased the boat, or Incept, for details.

CARE
CLEANING & MAINTENANCE:
Use warm soapy water or light abrasive cleanser to remove dirt and stains.
Periodically clean and if necessary lubricate the zippers with a silicone spray.
Remove sand and gravel which may accumulate between the floor and the sponsons.
Lubricate control lines with silicone where they pass through guides.
Wipe the boat with 303 Protectant to restore lustre and keep your kayak looking new.
FOLDING / STOWING:
To stow the boat, remove the rudder, cockpit coaming rods, curved deck battens and seats.
Before storing, inflate the kayak, fit the valve caps and wash with fresh water.
Dry thoroughly: - with sponsons inflated and floor slack, lift off the ground with the bow
and stern supported until dry particularly in the sandflap (between floor and sponsons).
Storing wet will result in mildew and possibly permanent stains.
Open the inflation valves with a simple press down / quarter turn.
Fold the boat as in the diagram above.

The Incept K50D inflatable sea kayak is constructed from a heavy duty and light weight
Polyurethane alloy boat material designed for Incept’s back-packable wilderness boats. It has
1100 dtex Polyester reinforcing, is exceptionally strong and hard wearing, and is protected
to withstand New Zealand’s extreme UV exposure.
ASSEMBLY

$ INFLATE The main inflation valves are in the rear cockpit and operated by pressing
down the internal stem and twisting a quarter turn. When the stem holds
down the valve is open. Release the stem to close the valve for inflation.
The protective caps prevent the entry of gravel and dirt.
Close the inflation valves and inflate the three air chambers (sponsons
and floor). If you find the pump nozzle is a loose fit, use the blue adapter
in the pump bag.
Pump hard enough to blow the three relief valves. Fit the valve caps.

$ RUDDER Set the rudder-raise control to the home
position (rudder down) in the jamcleat at left
(port) of the rear cockpit.
Fit the rudder and attach the three control
lines.
Be sure the rudder pin is pushed fully into
place, required for transmitting the steering
action.
If the plastic connecting nuts are given a half-
dozen counter twists beforehand, line twisting
will be minimised.

$ SEATS Clip the seats into the cockpits (4 snaps each). Inflate by mouth, twisting
the valves closed.
Inflate the back-rests as hard as possible. Inflate the seat cushions very
soft, almost flaccid, for comfort and for getting the paddler weight low.

The seat cushion valve is positioned between the legs so it can be opened
at sea for adjustment if you need it.
A small amount of adjustment is possible. The top of backrest should be
partially under the rear deck.

$ FOOTREST The footrest / pedals assembly
is inflated by mouth to a
moderate pressure, not critical.
With the rudder in a neutral
(straight-ahead) position, the
rudder lines can be adjusted at
the forward tie-point so that
the pedals lean slightly towards
the paddler. This has been pre-
set at the factory but may need further adjustment after a settling period
or first use.
The footrests are adjusted on the webbing straps for leg length. The rudder
lines on the rear unit will automatically adjust without further attention.
The pedal elastic cords should be adjusted so tension is sufficient only to
hold the pedals up. To avoid drag in the rudder lines do not over-tension.

$ DECKS The decks are an important and integral part of the
boat structure, stiffening the hull significantly
when closed.
Fit the curved fibreglass battens in the 6 pockets
provided in the deck undersides. Important: pull
the decks in to relieve the zips of any load when
closing them. An occasional spray with silicone
will keep the zips closing easily.
Important: When opening the decks it is
necessary to half withdraw the battens.

$COCKPITS Insert the white rod into the cockpit coaming sleeve and pull in tight
with the tab closure. Pull the webbing strap tight for security. Leave the
black cord in the rod end hanging out for easy removal later.

$PUMP The barrel pump supplied is a heavy duty American pump which can
easily reach the higher boat pressures needed for this performance
kayak. Because it does not require a hose it can be used at sea to fix the
pressure drop at launching which occurs when the sea is cold and the
beach is hot. The inflation valves are located in the cockpit for this
reason.

SPRAYSKIRTS Pull the sprayskirt up over your legs to chest height with the long part of
the skirt in front. Adjust the shoulder braces. You may choose not to
wear the braces - in which case tuck them inside the body tube.
Wear your paddle jacket and PFD (personal flotation device / life
jacket) over the spray skirt.
When you get into the kayak, reach behind with the back of the skirt
elastic and tuck it under the edge of the cockpit coaming. Stretch the
elastic edge of the skirt forward with both hands, one each side, tucking
under the coaming as you work towards the front. When you reach the
front of the skirt be sure the pull tab is out on top of the deck. This is
a matter for your safety if you should need to exit in emergency.
BOAT HANDLING
Performance is improved with pressure. Each of the main inflation chambers is fitted with a
pressure relief valve set to the optimum inflation pressures. If the boat is left on the beach in
the sun and internal pressures rise, the relief valves will blow. When the boat subsequently
cools (taken out of the sun or put in the water), there will be a corresponding loss of pressure
and you may wish to top up with the pump. You should only want to do this if you notice
undue flex in the boat at sea.
How to paddle a kayak is outside the scope of this manual. Good books on the subject of sea
kayaking are readily available.
It is essential that any user of this kayak take all reasonable steps to learn the basics of safety
at sea before venturing out. To gain experience, join a local sea kayak network or club.
