the owneronhisown,improperexploitationconditions(includingimpropergrounding),electricaldamagingofthe print
circuitboard due toelectricdisruptioncausedbyimpropergrounding,mechanicaldefectsofthecase.

Cablespreparation
1.In case ofinstallingODUwithexternalantenna:prepareRFcableoftherequired length.RFlowloss cableof1meter
lengthisrecommended.Install andsealtheconnectorsontheRFcable.
2.DeterminetheServicecablelengththatyouneedtoconnectIDUtoODU.ThetotallengthofcablesbetweenLAN
equipmentandODUshouldnotbelongerthan100meters.
Forexample,totallengthoftheEthernetcableconnectingyourswitchtoIDUandServicecableconnectingIDUto
ODUshouldnot be morethan100meters.Soifyouareusing60 metersServicecablethenEthernetcablelength
shouldnotbe morethan40meters.
Servicecableshouldbe STP/FTPCategory5Ecable.

3.Install aRJ-45 connector withoutgrounding(used toconnecttoODU)ontheServicecableandsealit(see RJ-45
ConnectorinstallationandSealinginstructionsbelow).
4.IfitispossibletolaytheServicecablewithaRJ-45connectorontheIDUside,installandsealshieldedRJ-45
connector forIDUontheServicecable.
RJ-45connector installation
Toinstall RJ-45connectorwithoutgrounding
ontheServicecableontheODUside
(shielded RJ-45connectorisinstalled onthe
for IDUside oftheServicecable):
1. PeeltheSTPServicecableremovinga
small pieceofitsexternaljackettofree
theinternalwires.
2. AssembleRJ-45 connectorpartstogether
andputthemontheServicecable
accordingtothepicture.
3. AttachRJ-45connectortotheService
cableaccordingtothe“RJ-45”soldering
scheme andcrimptheconnector.
Please tightly crimpthe RJ-45
connector.Not crimpedorbadly
crimpedconnectordamagestheunit
whenassembledintoitwhichisnot
consideredasawarrantycase.
4. Assembletheconnectortotheunit.
ConnectSTP-cablewithKEYEDRJ-45
connectorsONLYto “ODU”porton
the IDU.DoNOTtryto connectitto
“LAN”port, itwill damageKeyedRJ-
45 connectororIDU’sport.

Installation guidelines
1.In case ofusingODUwithexternalantenna:
•Install theantennaintheappropriatelocation(see antennaalignmentinstructionsbelow). Antenna’sposition
mustbelowerthanthehighestantennapolepointatleastby 2antennaheights.Pointtheantennatothe
requireddirection.Provideantennagrounding.
•ConnectRFcabletotheantenna.Twisttheconnectortightly.Sealtheconnector.
•Install ODUhavingitsconnectorspointingdown andtightenit.AppropriateplaceforODUinstallationisas
close as possibleto theantennabutreachableforyoutoconnectODUviaitsconsoleport.Provide ODU
grounding.
•ConnectRFcabletotheODUpreviouslyhavingtouched RFcableconnectorcase withODUconnector casefor
removingstaticelectricityontheODU.Sealtheconnector.
2.In case ofusingODUwithintegrated antenna:
•InstalltheODUintheappropriatelocation(seeantennaalignmentinstructionsbelow).ODU’sposition
mustbelowerthanthehighestantennapolepointatleastby 2ODU’s heights.PointtheODUwith
integrated antennaaccordingtothedirectionrequired forthelink.Donottightenittoo hardunless the

integratedantennaalignmentisnotcomplete.InstallODUconnectorsdown.ProvideODUgrounding.
Itisextremelyimportantto install ODUconnectorsdown!
3.ConnecttheSTP/FTPService(ODU-to-IDU)cabletotheODU.SealtheODUconnector.
4.Lay theSTP/FTPServicecable“fromtoptobottom”–fromODUtoIDU.Providecablewhippingbeforeenteringthe
building.Whippingradiusshouldbeatleast10times STP/FTPcablediameter.
5.IfshieldedRJ-45Servicecableconnector forIDUhasn’tbeeninstalled,installit.Sealtheconnector.
6.Install IDU.Provide IDUgrounding.
7.ConnectSTPServicecableto“ODU”portontheIDU’s,previouslyhavingtouchedIDUconnectorcasewithService
cableconnectorcase forremovingstaticelectricityontheIDU.
8.ConnectLANEthernetUTPcableto“LAN”port ontheIDU.
ConnectLANUTP-cablewithKEYEDRJ-45 connectorsONLYto“LAN”portontheIDU.DoNOTtrytoconnectitto “ODU”
port:itwill damageKeyedRJ-45 connectororLANequipment.
9.ConnectpowercordtoIDU.Providepowersupply.
10. ConnecttotheunitusingTelnetprotocol.
11. Configurebasicconfigurationparameters(see Basicconfigurationinstructionsbelow).
Basicconfiguration
1.ConnecttotheODUviaODU’s consoleportusingconsolecableorviaIDU’s LANEthernetportusingwiredLAN(use
Telnet).
2.Configureyourcomputerparameters.
Ifyouareusingconsoleport startanyterminalemulationsoftware(e.g.HyperTerminal),setconsoleinterface
properties to38400 baudrate,8bit,1stopbit,parityoff,flowcontrol disabled,enableemulationmode ANSI or
VT100,keyboardVT100.
IfyouareusingTelnetprotocol fromviawired LANrun Telnetwith10.10.10.1IP-address thatisconfigured for the
Ethernetinterfaceofthedeviceby default.
3.Youwill see theWANFleX OSloginprompt.Enterloginandpassword.Everynewdevicehas noinitialloginand
passwordsettings,soyoucanuse anynon-zerolengthloginandpasswordtoenterthedevice.Afterdefault
authorizationtherewillbestandardpromptstring.
4.Performbasicradiointerfaceconfigurationusing“rfconfig<IF-NAME>”command.Basicparametersare:radio
frequency(‘freq’ parameter)inMHz andbit-rate(‘bitr’ parameter)inkBits/sec.‘<IF-NAME>’–isRFinterfacenameof
thedevice.YoucanfinditonthelabelontheODU.Forexample: rfconfigrf5.0freq 5260bitr 130000.Tolearnyour
device’sradiomodulecapabilitiestype thecommand: rfconfig<IF-NAME>cap.
Choosethe frequencyattentively.Thefrequencyshouldbe theoneyourradiolinkisworking on.
Antennaalignment
Install antennas ashighas possibleoverspecificlevel.Proximityofotherantennas shouldbe avoided (atleast2
meters).Considerreflectingsurfaces (buildingwithreflectivewindows,watersurfacesorwetgrounds).Wheninstalling
antennaoverwatersurface,oneshouldtuneheightbracketwithin1-3meterrange variation,because it canyieldsignal
levelvariationfromminimumtomaximum.

Toobtainthebestperformanceresults,itisnecessarytoperformaprecise analysisofaLOSconditions,signal
propagationpathzoneandpossibleobstructionsthatmay coverapartofthe1st Fresnelzone.Possibleobstructionson
thesignalpropagationpathareneighboringbuildings,trees,bridges,powerlines.
Antennapolarizationmustbetakenintoconsiderationwhileinstallation.In mostcases Omni-directionalandsector
antennas have verticalpolarization.Directionalantennas canbe installed eitherwithverticalorhorizontalpolarization.
Please checkacorrespondinglabelingontheantennaandaddress totheantennatechnicaldocumentation.R5000-Xm
2x2seriesdevicesshoulduseDual-polarizationantennas.
Recommendationsfor antennaalignment:alignantennas usingopticalequipment(binoculars,spyglass)accompanied
by mobilephoneactionscoordination,use GPSreceiverandarea map,use InfiNetWireless RapidView-1 deviceorbuild-
inInfiNetWirelessODUfeatures.These features allowevaluatingcurrentchannel/signalqualityandperformprecise
antennaalignment.Toachieve thebestlinkqualityontheradiolinkuse “Ltest”softwareutility.See complete
descriptionofthese commandsandutilities inOSWANFleX Manual(wanflex.pdf)andTechnicalUsermanual(tum.pdf).
Toperformsimpleantennaalignment:
1.ConnecttotheODUandperformbasicconfigurationas itisshown inBasicconfigurationinstructions.
2.Start“Ltest”utilityusing“ltest <IF-NAME>destination_device_MAC”command.‘destination_device_MAC’–isaMAC
address ofadeviceontheoppositeendoftheradiolink(for example: ltest rf5.000:00:0e:12:13:ac).
3.When“Ltest”startsyouwillsee agrowingtablewithtwoparts:local(device)andremote(device).In fourcolumnsof
eachsideofthelinkyouwill see current/maximumreceivedsignallevels,current/maximumnumberofretries (%),
current/maximumnumberofundeliveredpackets(%)andcurrent/maximumnumberofundeliveredACKs(%).
4.Rotate(and/or)tilt theantennatoachieve thebestsignallevels,zeroretriesanderrors.
5.
Fixtheantenna.
Grounding
Antennashouldbe placed onthemastonthelevelthatisatleast1meterlowerthanamast’stop.In thiscase itisof
bigprobabilitythatthelightningstrikesthemastandnot theantenna.Themastistobe grounded onthegrounding
contouraccordingtoyourlocalstandards.
Aspecialattentionshouldbe paidifantennaused isnotDC-shorted.In thiscase additionallightningarrestor shouldbe
used betweentheantennaandODU.Suggested groundingdiagramisshownonthepicturebelow.
ODUandIDUshouldbe groundedusingtheirgroundingclamps.In caseofusingIDU-5000-CPE,IDUisgrounded via
powercordgrounding.
Antennapole,tower,ODUandlightningarrestorshouldbeconnected tothefirstcommongroundingcontour.Cable
thickness shouldbe noless than10AWG usingcorrosion-steady connectors.Itishighlyrecommended to entrust
groundingcontourdevelopmenttotheskilled personnel.IDUshouldbe groundedtothesamecontourascustomerLAN,
havingthesecondcommongroundingcontour.
Connector hermeticsealing
Abignumberofproblems withlinksignalqualityincase ofoutdoorinstallationsresult fromRFcableandconnectors
corrosion.In ordertoavoidthese problems it isnecessaryto isolatealltheconnectionsthataresituatedoutdoors.Itis
recommendedtouseeitherthermalshrinkagewithgelstuffor specialwaterprooftape.
Oncetheantennaalignmentisnotcompleteitisnot recommended toperformsealing.Thispreventsyoutoremove the
sealingwhenthereisaneed toreallocatetheantennaorthecable.Sealingwiththermalshrinkage usage isperformed
withaspecialfan. Obeyall precautionmeasureswhileusingthefanasitiswritteninitsmanual! The
isolationusingthewaterprooftape isperformedbyitswindingwithintersectionaroundtheconnection.
Please keep inmindthefollowingrecommendations:cleanall thesurfaces to beisolated andkeepthemfree fromthe
dustandwater.Sealingmaterialmustcoverthewholeconnectorandthecablewithagap ofatleast2-3cmfromthe
connectionplace,sealingmaterialmustcoverthesurfaces astightas possible.
Toprotectthesealingmaterialfromthesun rays,itisrecommendedtocoveritwithvinylisolationtape.
