USER MANUAL: STA-16A
AUTOMATIC TRANSFER SWITCH
1. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This is an automatic selector or switch with 2 AC inputs and 1 AC output.
AC output is always connected to the pre-selected AC input (For example Input A). In case input A has a power failure, STA-16A
automatically switches to connect Input B to the output. When STA-16A detects power in input A is reconnected, it switches back to input A.
This device is usually used for 2 main applications:
1.- To offer redundant input for one UPS, connecting 2 different AC lines to STA-16A inputs (A & B) and connecting UPS to the STA-16A
output or
2.- To offer UPS redundant system by connecting 2 different UPS at STA-16A inputs and output powering to the protected system.
FRONT PANEL:
1. SWITCH ON/OFF input A (main input line) 5. USB Port
2. SWITCH ON/OFF input B (secondary input line) 6. RS232 Port
3. Output Breaker for 16A outlet (12) 7. Intelligent port for LAN card
4. Output Breaker for 10A outlets (10) & (11) 8. Operation panel
REAR PANEL:
9. Dry contact output (Relays) 12. AC outlet (capacity 16A)

4. COMMUNICATION PORTS
 USB*: USB communication using dedicated software. Pin 1: VBUS / Pin 2: D- / Pin 3: D+ / Pin 4: GND
 RS-232*: Serial communication using dedicated software. Pin 2: TX / Pin 3: RX / Pin 5: GND / Pin 6: +12Vdc
 Dry Contacts Outputs Port (Relays)
 Intelligent Port for SNMP Card (Optional)
* check software manual for additional information.
DRY CONTACTS OUTPUTS PORT
It is formed by 6 pins (1 to 6, from left to right) and provides information about status of AC inputs (A & B) and STA-16A situation according
to following figure.
 Pin 1: Common point.
 Pin 2: Closed = Output connected to input "B"
 Pin 3: Closed = Output connected to input "A"
 Pin 4: Closed = Input "A" OK
 Pin 5: Closed = Input "B" OK
 Pin 6: Closed = STA OK
NETWORK COMUNICATION (SNMP)
An optional SNMP XMART card can be installed in the Intelligent Port located in front panel of STA-16A, to monitor the unit operation. To
install SNMP card, remove the cover of Intelligent Port (retained by 2 screws), in order to insert the card as shown in the next figure:
Then tight both screws to fix SNMP card to STA front panel.
Having this modern and efficient mean of communication and control allows you to:
• To know real time parameters of inputs “A” & “B”, such as: Voltage, Frequency and Status
• Having STA-16A output information: Voltage, Frequency. Current, Load Percentage and Watts/Hour.
• Receiving Alarm messages from STA-16A, as well as internal temperature.
• Connecting our Sensor-TH to SNMP Card, to know temperature and humidity in the working area and setting alarms.
• Emailing all STA alarms to previously programmed addresses.
• Configuring STA-16A operational parameters, like valid voltage and frequency ranges for both inputs, as well as overload alarm level
and maximum overload permitted.
Al relevant information about STA-16A operation is available thanks to this option, moreover remote configuration is possible for an efficient
operation in your installation.
More information about configuration, operation, and monitoring of STA-16A thru SNMP card in SNMP LAN CARD manual.
