CAUTION
Failure to use an appropriate power supply and/or not connecting the 12 V (2 x 2 pin)
power connector to the desktop board may result in damage to the board or the
system may not function properly.
Desktop Board DQ965CO supports an Intel processor in the LGA775 package.
Processors are not included with the desktop board and must be purchased separately.
The processor connects to the desktop board through the LGA775 socket.
The supported processors list for Desktop Board DQ965CO is located on the web at:

Main Memory
CAUTION
When connected to AC power, the memory slots on the board will be powered and in
use. A red LED, located near the memory slots, will be lit if the memory slots are
powered.
Installing or removing memory from the board while the memory slots are powered
may result in damage to both memory and board.
Before installing or removing memory, disconnect the system from AC power and wait
for the LED to go off before proceeding.
NOTE
To be fully compliant with all applicable Intel®SDRAM memory specifications, the
board should be populated with DIMMs that support the Serial Presence Detect (SPD)
data structure. If your memory modules do not support SPD, you will see a
notification to this effect on the screen at power up. The BIOS will attempt to
configure the memory controller for normal operation.
NOTE
The Intel®Management Engine in the chipset requires memory to be populated in
Channel A, DIMM 0 in order for it to enable Intel Quiet System Technology and Intel
Active Management Technology.

Intel®Active Management Technology (Intel®AMT)
with System Defense Feature
Intel Active Management Technology (Intel AMT) offers IT organizations tamper-
resistant and persistent management capabilities. Specifically, Intel AMT is a
hardware-based solution that uses out of band communication to manage access client
systems in addition to offering encrypted and persistent asset management and
remote diagnostics and/or recovery capabilities for networked platforms. With Intel
AMT, IT organizations can easily get accurate platform information, and can perform
remote updating, diagnostics, debugging and repair of a system, regardless of the
state of the operating system and the power state of the system.
NOTE
Intel AMT enabled enterprise management software is required to take advantage of
Intel AMT platform management capabilities.
The key features of Intel AMT include:
•Secure Out of Band (OOB) system management that allows remote management
of PCs regardless of system power or operating system state.
•Remote troubleshooting and recovery that can significantly reduce desk-side visits
and potentially increasing efficiency of IT technical staff.
•Proactive alerting that decreases downtime and minimizes time to repair.
•Third party non-volatile storage that prevents users from removing critical
inventory, remote control, or virus protection agents.
•Remote hardware and software asset tracking that eliminates time-consuming
manual inventory tracking, which also reduces asset accounting costs.
•System Defense Feature - an Intel AMT feature for stopping the propagation of
worms and viruses through the use of programmable packet filters in the
integrated LAN controller. The packet filters inspect all incoming and all outgoing
packets and determine whether to block or pass the packets as configured. There
is no indication to the host that a packet has been blocked or accepted.

Intel Desktop Board DQ965CO Product Guide

Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Support
NOTE
Computer systems that have an unshielded cable attached to a USB port might not
meet FCC Class B requirements, even if no device or a low-speed USB device is
attached to the cable. Use a shielded cable that meets the requirements for a
full-speed USB device.
The desktop board supports up to 10 USB 2.0 ports via ICH8 (six ports routed to the
back panel and four ports routed to two internal USB 2.0 headers). USB 2.0 ports are
backward compatible with USB 1.1 devices. USB 1.1 devices will function normally at
USB 1.1 speeds.
USB 2.0 support requires both an operating system and drivers that fully support
USB 2.0 transfer rates. Disabling Hi-Speed USB in the BIOS reverts all USB 2.0 ports
to USB 1.1 operation. This may be required to accommodate operating systems that
do not support USB 2.0.
Enhanced IDE Interface
The desktop board’s IDE interface handles the exchange of information between the
processor and peripheral devices such as hard disk drives and CD-ROM drives. The
interface supports:
•Up to two IDE devices (such as hard drives)
•ATAPI-style devices (such as CD-ROM drives)
•Older PIO Mode devices
•Ultra DMA-33 and ATA-66/100 protocols
Serial ATA
The desktop board supports six Serial ATA channels (3.0 Gb/s) via ICH8DO,
connecting one device per channel.
•Support for Native Command Queuing (NCQ)
•Support for hot plug
•RAID 0,1,5, and 10
Expandability
For system expansion, the desktop board provides the following:
•One PCI Express x16 connector
•One PCI Express x1 connector
•Two PCI bus connectors
