NOTES: Line lengths over design length may have reduced capacity. An oil trap
is recommended for lengths over 16 ft.
oLocate area to install indoor unit.
oChoose an area where the wall is plumb and determine how to best run
the unit interconnects.
oEnsure that all panels/covers can be removed for service as required.
oIndoor unit must be located a minimum of 4’from the floor and 6” from the
ceiling.
oEnsure that no obstacles to airflow are directly in front of the unit for a
minimum of 16’.
oDo not install the indoor unit in areas exposed to high humidity (RH of
80% plus), direct sunlight and direct heat from stoves or other devices.
oLocate the outdoor unit using the following clearances:

oThe outdoor unit should be placed on a condenser pad.
oIf it’s a heat pump it must be raised up approximately 4'' to allow for
connections and defrost to drain away.
oDo not install the outdoor unit in a location exposed to high winds (field
fabricated and installed wind baffle may be required).
oEnsure location does not impede access around the unit and/or pose a
disturbance to neighboring areas.
Mounting indoor bracket:
oAfter unpacking remove mounting bracket from the rear of the indoor unit.
oLocate an area to mount bracket.
oUse a level to ensure mounting bracket is level so condensate will drain
properly.
oThe indoor unit weighs a maximum of 46 lbs.
oSecurely attach bracket to the wall by placing screws through the bracket
into the wall studs.
oCheck that the wall is steady and capable of holding the weight of the
indoor unit.

Drill hole for connections:
oUse a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the unit pipe strap. If the unit is
a MSC49HP13115A, 9H43YGX, MSC412HP13115A or 12H43YGX heat
pump the defrost sensor cable must be located.
oIf mounting the unit on an outside wall, measure from the edges of the unit
to the center of the line set stub 90° bend to locate the center of the wall
penetration.
oDrill a 3” diameter hole through the wall. Angle the hole slightly down
towards the outside to assist in draining the condensate away from the
unit.
oIf mounting the unit on an inside wall, use the knockouts provided on the
left and right sides of the unit to route the piping and wiring connections.
oInstall plastic sleeve into 3” hole.

Outdoor unit: Remove top cover to expose defrost cable.
Hanging Indoor Unit:
oOnce the bracket has been mounted and the power cable(s) fed through
the 3” hole from the outside (assuming outside wall installation) gently
bend the stub outward (90° to unit).
oFeed the power cable through the back into the terminal compartment.
oConnect defrost cable for MSC49HP13115A, 9H43YGX,
MSC412HP13115A or 12H43YGX.
oRaise the indoor unit up to the bracket.
oPlace the copper lines, drain hose and power cable into the 3” hole with
sleeve installed (gray drain hose should be on the bottom of bundle).
oHook the top of the indoor unit to the top of the bracket (2 or 3 places) and
once hooked, gently let it swing down and it will snap into the bracket.
Connecting the Line Set:
oRun the line set between the outdoor unit and the indoor unit using the
supplied (insulated copper tubing).
oRemove the flare nut plugs from the indoor unit line stubs and remove the
brass covers on the outdoor unit.
oInstall the 1/4” and 1/2” copper tubing between the indoor and outdoor
unit. Connect to the stub from the indoor unit first.
oUse 2 wrenches to tighten the connections. Do not over torque.
oDo not install a liquid line sight glass or filter drier in the system.
oOnce the copper tubing has been connected to the indoor stub start
routing the tubing to the outdoor unit avoid tight bends and kinking the
lines.
oAvoid connecting 2 or more line sets together, instead use one longer line
set.
oIf line set length is in excess of that required, cut copper line and re-flare
or coil excess vertically to facilitate oil return to the compressor.
oIf copper tubing is cut and re-flared make sure there is no debris or
contaminate left in tubing.

Vacuum and Leak Test:
oAttach gauges to the service ports.
oOutdoor unit is factory pre-charged; make sure shut off valves are closed
(as received) during pressure testing and evacuating.
oOnce the gauges are attached pressurize the line set using Nitrogen at
300 PSIG and check for leaks.
oNext, evacuate the unit down to a minimum of 200 Microns for 30 minutes.
It is essential that a deep vacuum be pulled on the system to remove all
traces of moisture.
oAt this point in the installation it is a good idea to connect the electrical
power while the vacuum is running. See next section.
oClose gauge valves and shut down the vacuum pump.

Electrical connections:
oElectrical wiring should be done in accordance with National Electrical
Code (NEC) and local state/city building codes.
oEnsure that the proper size breaker is used for the rating plate amperage.
oEach system installed must have a dedicated branch circuit with an
individual breaker/fuse.
oA local disconnect should be installed adjacent to the outdoor unit.
oThe outdoor unit provides power for the Indoor unit therefore, no
disconnect is required between the outdoor and indoor units.
oOn the indoor unit, connect the electrical wires to the terminal strip and
close cover (remember what color goes to which terminal).
oOn the outdoor unit remove RHS knockout on the terminal access panel
for whip/wiring connection.

oGround connection must be made to the terminal plate.
oFor easier access to the terminals in the outdoor unit remove the lower
access panel to install whip and seal-tite connectors for conduit.
oAccess to outdoor terminal strip will vary by model.
oControl wiring from the outdoor unit must be a point to point i.e. the
terminal that the wire is attached to on the outdoor unit must be the same
terminal it is wired to in on the Indoor unit.
THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Miswiring (cross connecting wires)
between the indoor unit and outdoor unit can cause the unit to fail to operate and
can seriously damage the unit. Use care to ensure that wiring between the inside
unit and the outside unit is per the wiring diagram. Ground connection should be
made to ground screw marked in the indoor unit.
If the unit is a MSC49HP13115A, 9H43YGX, MSC412HP13115A or 12H43YGX,
the defrost sensor must be connected from the indoor unit to the outdoor unit.
If a longer length than supplied is required then cut the lead and extend using
thermostat wire. If this cable is not installed the unit will not operate in heat mode.

Connecting the condensate drain line extension:
oConnect the supplied drain line to the gray condensate line coming from
the indoor unit.
oThe condensate line should be placed under the copper tubing in order to
drain more efficiently.
oAfter the copper tubing, wiring and condensate hose has been installed
wrap the bundle with the 2” vinyl tape starting from the bottom and moving
upward.
Condensate drain must be sloped downward in order to drain properly.
Install outdoor condensation drainage hose (heat pump models only):
When the heat pump unit is heating or
defrosting, condensation forms in the
outdoor unit. This can be drained off
using the outdoor drain elbow. A short
section of hose used on the indoor unit
may be used here. Insert the drain elbow
into the hole on the base plate as shown.
Join the drain hose to the elbow and turn
so that the water drains to the desired
location.
Release refrigerant:
oUse correct sized allen wrench to slowly open the liquid line valve first,
then open the suction line service valve fully on the outdoor unit (1/4”
liquid 1/2” suction).
oOpen the valves all the way and seat them firmly against the stop.
Replace brass caps.
Slowly open liquid line valve to allow refrigerant flow.

Check system operation:
oThe outdoor unit is pre-charged at the factory so no additional adjustment
to refrigerant charge is required if line set is at design length or less.
oAdditional charge must be weighted in per the following table.

Example: If installation is a MSC49HP13115A and the line set is 26.4 feet long.
That would be 10 ft. over design length. Multiply 10 ft. X 0.3 oz./ft. = 3 oz. extra
refrigerant needed for this installation.
oAfter installation the pressure reading should be as indicated below in the
charts.
oThis pressure is taken from the suction side service port.
oUsing the pressure / temperature chart below correct refrigerant level as
necessary.
oIf outdoor temperature is not within the temperature range of the graph
below then proper refrigerant pressure cannot be calculated accurately.

Start up procedure:
oCool Mode: Press the On/Off button on the remote. An audible “BEEP”
should be heard. The louvers should open and the indoor fan should start.
oPress the mode button to set the mode to “COOL”.
oChange the set point temperature to read “61º”.
oAfter approximately 3 minutes the condenser fan and compressor should
start, assuming that the indoor air temperature is above 61º.
oAfter approximately 10 minutes the temperature differential of the indoor
unit (∆T) should be at least 25º.
oHeat Mode: Press the mode button to set the mode to “HEAT”. Change
the set point temperature to read “86º”.
oAfter approximately 3 minutes the condenser fan and compressor should
start, assuming that the indoor air temperature is below 86º.
oIndoor fan WILL NOT START until the indoor coil temperature is
approximately 10 ºF above room temperature.
oAfter approximately 10 minutes, the temperature differential of the indoor
unit (∆T) should be at least 20 ºF.
Most Common Installation Errors:
- Wiring mistakes
- Defrost cable not installed
- Leaks
- Foreign material / moisture in lines
Troubleshooting for new installations:
- Check operation without low ambient kit or condensate pump first.
- Disconnect any of these devices prior to troubleshooting.
- Check for proper input voltage.
- Check wiring connections.
- Check wiring at indoor unit.
- Check for proper remote control settings.

WARRANTY
International Refrigeration Products warrants the accompanying Line Set
Installation Kit to be free of defects in material and workmanship for the
applications specified in the manual for a period of one (1) year on parts, valid
from the date of original retail purchase in the United States or Canada. Labor
and shipping is not covered under warranty.
If the unit exhibits a defect in normal use and is determined to be within the
warranty period, International Refrigeration Products, Inc. will, at its option,
either repair or replace the unit free of charge within a reasonable time after the
unit is returned.
This warranty DOES NOT cover:
Damage, accidental or otherwise, to the unit while in possession of the
consumer that is not a result of a defect in material in workmanship.
Damage caused by consumer misuse, tampering, or failure to follow all
care and maintenance instructions in the manuals.
Damage caused by repairs or alterations by anyone other than a qualified
technician.
Labor, freight and insurance cost for the warranty service.
