FOREWORD
•Inspect unit for shipping damage, mishandling and accessories before installing.
•The appearance of the units that you purchase may be slightly different from the ones described in this manual,
but will not affect proper operations and usage.
•Please read carefully the sections corresponding to the specific model you have, and keep the manual in a safe
place for reference.
•The refrigerant used in your window air conditioner is an environmentally safe and friendly.
ATTENTION
•Do not modify or otherwise defeat the plug.
•The appliance shall be installed and operated in accordance with National Electrical Code regulations.
•Do not operate your unit in the cooling mode when the outside temperature is below 64°F . Do not operate your
unit in the heating mode when outside temperature is above 109°F.
•If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by a qualified person in order to avoid a fire hazard.
•All electrical repairs and connections must be performed by a licensed electrician.
•Air conditioner with electrical heater not to be used as primary heat source.

Location Requirements
IMPORTANT: Observe all governing codes and
ordinances.
Check the location where air conditioner will be
installed. Proper installation is your responsibility.
Make sure you have everything necessary for
correct installation.
The location should provide:
•Grounded electrical outlet within 5 ft of
where the power cord exits the air
conditioner.
NOTE: Do not use an extension cord.
•Free movement of air in room to be cooled.
•A large enough opening for the air
conditioner.
•Adequate wall support for weight of air
conditioner. Air conditioner weights up to
139 lbs.
NOTE: Cabinet louvers & rear of the air
conditioner must not be obstructed. Air must be
able to pass freely through the cabinet louvers.
The rear of air conditioner must be outdoors. Not
inside a building or garage.
Window Requirements:
These instructions are for
a standard double hung
window. You will need to
modify them for other
types of windows.
The air conditioner can be
installed without the
accordion panel if needed
to fit in a narrow window.

All supporting parts must be secured to firm
wood, masonry or metal.

The air conditioner can be used in a wall, providing
the vents are not blocked.
Table -2 provides the maximum wall thickness
dimension from the outer case to side air louvers.

Storm Window Requirements:
A storm window frame will not allow the air
conditioner to tilt properly which in turn will keep
it from draining properly. To adjust for this,
attach a board or piece of wood to the sill. The
board or wood piece should have a depth of at
least 1 1/2”. Make sure the board or piece of
wood is approximately 1/2” higher than the storm
window frame. This will allow the air conditioner
to tilt enough for proper drainage. See below.

Recommended Grounding Method
This air conditioner must be grounded. This air
conditioner is equipped with a power supply cord
having a grounded 3 prong plug. To minimize
possible shock hazard, the cord must be
plugged into a mating, grounded 3 prong outlet,
grounded in accordance with all local and
national codes. If a mating outlet is not available,
it is the customer’s responsibility to have a
properly grounded 3 prong outlet installed by a
qualified electrical installer.
It is the customer’s responsibility:
•To contact a qualified electrical installer.
•To assure that the electrical installation
is adequate and in conformance with
National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA
70- latest edition, and all local codes
and ordinances.
Power Supply Cord
NOTE: Your unit’s device may differ from the
ones shown.
This room air conditioner is equipped with a
power supply cord required by UL. This power
supply cord contains state-of-the-art electronics
that sense leakage current. If he cord is crushed,
the electronics detect leakage current and power
will be disconnected in a fraction of a second.
To Test your power supply cord:
1. Plug power supply cord into a grounded 3
prong outlet.
2. Press RESET
3. Press TEST (listen for click, Reset button
will trip and pop out).
4. Press and release RESET (listen for click;
Reset button will latch and remain in). The
power supply cord is ready for operation.
NOTES:
•The reset button must be pushed in for
proper operation.
•The power supply cord must be replaced if it
fails to trip when the test button is pressed
or fails to reset.
•Do not use the power supply cord as an
off/on switch. The power supply cord is
designed as a protective device.
•A damaged power supply cord must be
replaced with a new power supply cord
obtained from the product manufacturer and
must not be repaired.
•The power supply cord contains no user
serviceable parts. Opening the tamper-
resistant case voids all warranty and
performance claims.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Remove packaging materials
•Remove and dispose of/recycle packaging
materials. Remove tape and glue residue
from surfaces before turning on the air
conditioner. Rub a small amount of liquid
dish soap over the adhesive with your
fingers. Wipe with warm water and dry.
•Do not use sharp instruments, rubbing
alcohol, flammable fluids, or abrasive
cleaners to remove tape or glue. These
products can damage the surface of your air
conditioner.
•Handle air conditioner gently.
RemoveChassis
1. Pull down the front panel and remove the filter.
See Fig.1.
2. Lift the front panel upwards to remove and
place to the side.
3. Locate the four front screws and remove.
These screws will need to be re-installed prior to
mounting the air conditioner. See Fig.2
4. After removing the screws, gently pull away
the front panel from the air conditioner cabinet.
You may push metal cabinet side to release the
plastic tabs on each side of front panel. See Fig
3A & 3B.
5. Disconnect the connector plug of the display
panel from the unit. See Fig. 4.
5. Remove the two screws on the top of
the chassis and also on the side by base
if installed. See Fig.5.
6. Hold the cabinet while pulling on the
base of the chassis and carefully
remove the chassis from the cabinet.
7. Add two foam inserts (included) to holes
in top of cabinet where shipping screws
were removed from. See Fig.6.
8. Your unit may come with internal
packaging. This packaging must be
removed prior to installing the air
conditioner back into the cabinet. See
Fig.7.

Prepare the Cabinet
1. Place the air conditioner on a hard flat surface.
2. Locate the foam gasket (included) and top
angle rail (included).
3. Attach the foam gasket to the top angle rail.
NOTE: Your units may have the seal strip already
attached to the top mounting rail. If applicable,
skip this step.
4. Install top angle and side retainers to cabinet
as shown below.
5. Slide “I”section of window filler panel into side
retainer on the side of cabinet. Do both sides.
6. Insert top and bottom legs of window filler
panel frame into channel in the top angle and
bottom rail. Do both sides.
7. Insert washer head locking 7/16”screws (2) in
to holes in top leg of filler panel frame (See
Extend the Accordion Panels on Page 7.) Do not
totally tighten. Screws will be tightened in later
steps.
Install the Cabinet into the Window
NOTE:
•Handle air conditioner gently.
•Be sure your air conditioner does not fall out
of the opening during installation or removal.
•The place where the power cord exits the air
conditioner should be no more than 5 ft from
a grounded 3 prong outlet.
•Do not block the louvers on the front panel.
•Do not block the louvers on the outside of
the air conditioner.
Prepare the Window
Open window and mark center of the window sill.
Install the Cabinet
1. Center the cabinet in window. Check that
lower rail of cabinet is behind and against back
side of window sill. Maintain a firm hold on the
air conditioner cabinet. Lower window sash to
hold cabinet in place.

2. For wooden window: Fasten cabinet to
window inner sill with two screws into holes.
(You may need to pre-drill the pilot holes if it
requires).
For Vinyl-Clad window: Place two safety locks
into the holes located in the bottom of the
cabinet and drive two #10 x 1/4”pan-head
Phillips locking screws through the safety locks
into the cabinet. (on some models)
3. Remove protective strip from adhesive side of
bottom rail foam seal. Apply Seal over screws
fastening bottom rail to window inner sill.
Install the Support Bracket
1. Hold each support bracket flush against the
outside of the window sill. Tighten each bracket
to the bottom of the cabinet as shown below.
Mark the brackets at top lever of the window sill
and then remove.
2. Assemble the sill angle brackets to the
support brackets at the marked position as
shown below. Hand tighten, but not all the way
for any changes that may need to be made later
during installation.
3. Install the support brackets (with sill angle
brackets attached) to the bottom of the cabinet
as shown below.
4. Tighten all 6 bolts securely.
NOTE: Make sure the air conditioner is tilted back
about 1 1/4”to 1 5/8”(tilted about 3ºto 4º
downward to the outside). After proper
installation, condensate should not drain from
the overflow drain hole during normal use,
correct the slope otherwise. See below.
Extend the Accordion Panels
1. Carefully raise the window to expose the
accordion panel and panel frame. Loosen the
locking screws so the accordion panels slide
easily.
2. Extend each panel to completely fill the width of
the window. Tighten the locking screws when
the panels are fully extended.

3. Close window behind top angle.
4. Attach the top angle to window frame: Use a
3/32”drill bit to drill one hole through the hole in
the middle of top angle into the window frame,
and drive one 3/4”(or 1/2”) hex-head locking
screw through hole in the middle of top angle
into the window frame as below.
Attach Window Filler Panels to Window
Frame
1. Extend the window filler panels out against the
window frame
2. Use a 1/8”drill bit to drill a starter hole through
the hole in the top leg of each window filler
panel and into the window sash. Connect with
one 3/4”(or 1/2”) long hex head screw.
3. Attach the Lock Frames to the window sill using
two 3/4”screws. (On some models)
Install the Window Lock and Sash Seal
1. Trim the sash seal to fit the width of the window.
Insert the sash seal into space between the upper
and lower sashes.
2. Attach the right angle safety lock.
Install the Chassis into the Cabinet
1. Team lift (two people) the air conditioner chassis
2. and carefully slide it into the cabinet. Let the
front of the air conditioner hang out
approximately 6”.
DO NOT PUSH ON THE CONTROLS OR FINNED
COILS.
2. Be sure the chassis is firmly seated in the back
of the cabinet.
3. Insert all screws removed during window
installation and reattach the front face plate, front
panel, and the air filter. Use the “REMOVE
CHASSIS”instructions on Page 5 and figures for
reference.

Before you begin, thoroughly familiarize yourself with the control panel and remote as shown below and all its
functions then follow the symbol for the functions you desire. The air conditioner can be controlled by the remote or the
control panel.

TO SELECT THE OPERATING MODE:
TO USE THE ENERGY SAVER MODE:
Select Operating Mode：
•To choose operating mode, press the Mode button.
Each time you press the button, a mode is selected
in a sequence that goes from Auto, Cool, Dry, Heat
(For Heat model only) and Fan. The indicator light
beside the Mode button will be illuminated.
To Operate Cool/Heat Mode:
•Press the MODE button to select Cool/Heat mode,
temperature could be set between 62 ºF and 86 ºF
in 1 ºF increments
•In cooling mode, the FAN-AUTO function can be
selected, automatically changing the fan speed as
the room temperature gets closer to set point.
To Operate Auto Mode:
•When the "AUTO" function is selected, it will
automatically select the cool, heat or fan. The
temperature can be changed as desired. The
temperature range is 62°F to 86°F.
•The air conditioner will control room temperature
automatically around the temperature set point.
•In the "AUTO" mode, the fan speed is not
selectable. The fan will change speeds according to
the room temperature and the set point.
•If "AUTO" mode is not comfortable, select another
mode.
To Operate Fan Only Mode:
•Use this function only when cooling is not desired
such as for room air circulation or to exhaust stale
air. Open the outside vent for maximum circulation.
The outside vent should be closed for all other
modes (Cooling, Heating, Auto and Dry). Fan speed
is selectable (Auto, High, Med, and Low).
•The Fan only function will display the actual room
temperature.
•In other modes the set point is displayed.
•In Fan only mode, the temperature is not adjustable.
To Operate Dry Mode:
•In this mode, the air conditioner will operate in the
form of a dehumidifier. Since the conditioned space
is a closed or sealed area, some degree of cooling
will continue.
•The temperature is selectable.
•Fan will run at low speed only.
Energy Saver Mode:
•This function is available in COOL/DRY/AUTO (only
Auto Cool and Auto Fan available) mode. The fan
will continue to run for 3 minutes after the
compressor shuts off. The fan then cycles on for 2
minutes at 10 minute intervals. If the room
temperature goes above the set point, the
compressor turns on and begins to cool.
•Press the temperature UP/DOWN buttons to select
the desired set temperature. The temperature range
is 62°F to 86°F.
•The fan speed is selectable in the Energy Saver
mode.
NOTE：
For model WHP418ZRB, when indoor room
temperature is above 50°F (10°C) and the
outdoor temperature is above 39°F (4°C),
then the heat pump (compressor) will be
activated for heating. If the room temperature
is below 50°F (10°C) or the outdoor
temperature is below 39°F (4°C), the electric
heater will be activated.
The electric heater and the compressor will
not be activated at the same time.

SLEEP MODE:

SLEEP MODE:
The temperature setting will increase (cooling mode) /
decrease (heating mode) by 2°F in 30 minutes. In another
30 minutes the temperature setting will increase (cooling
mode) / decrease (heating mode) by another 2°F.
This temperature will be maintained for 6 hours and then
the temperature will return to the original set point
temperature.
To cancel the sleep mode, press the "Sleep" button.
TIMER ON / TIMER OFF:
•Press the Timer button to select "On or Off". After the
time is selected the unit will either turn on or off after
the timer has timed out.
Example:
•If the unit is operating and "Off' is selected the unit will
turn off after the selected time times out.
•If the unit is off and "On" is selected the unit will turn
on after the selected times out.
•Press or hold the UP or DOWN button to change the
Auto time by 0.5 hour increments up to 10 hours, then
at 1 hour increments up to 24 hours. The control will
count down the time remaining until unit starts or
stops.
•The selected time will update in 5 seconds. The
system will automatically revert back to display the
previous temperature setting or room temperature
when the unit is on. (When the unit is off, there is no
display.)
•Turning the unit ON or OFF at any time or adjusting
the timer setting to 0.0 will cancel the Auto Start/Stop
timed program.
FOLLOW ME:
This function can be activated by the remote control only.
The remote control works as a remote thermostat allowing
for the precise temperature control at its location.
To active the Follow Me function, point the remote control
towards the unit and press the Follow Me button. The
remote display is actual temperature at its location. The
remote control will send this signal to the air conditioner at
3 minutes intervals until the follow me button is pressed
again. The air conditioner will beep to indicate the
FOLLOW ME feature has ended if it does not receive the
signal during any 7 minute interval.

CHECK FILTER FEATURE:

CHECK FILTER FEATURE:
This feature is a reminder to clean the Air Filter for more
efficient operation. The LED (light) will illuminate after 250
hours of operation. To reset after cleaning the filter, press
the Check Filter button and the light will turn off.
DISPLAY INDICATIONS:
Displays the following possibilities:
* °F or °C
* Timer setting
* Set temperature (all modes other than fan).
* Room temperature in the fan mode
* Error codes
Error codes:
1) AS - Room temperature sensor error. Unplug the
unit and plug it back in. If error repeats, call for
service.
2) LO or HI –(Fan Only Mode) Room temperature
sensor error. Unplug the unit and plug it back in. If
error repeats, call for service.
3) “·”(see picture to the left) - Evaporator
temperature sensor error. Unplug the unit and plug
it back in. If error repeats, call for service.
4) HS -Electric heating sensor error. Unplug the unit
and plug it back in. If error repeats, call for service.

REMOTE CONTROL
Handling and location of the remote controller
Use the remote controller at a distance of 26 ft., or less, from the appliance. Point it towards the receiver on the air conditioner.
Communication is confirmed with a beep.
CAUTIONS
•The air conditioner will not operate if curtains, doors or other materials block the signal from the remote control to the air
conditioner.

•If the infrared signal receiver on the indoor unit is exposed to direct sunlight, the air conditioner may not function properly.
•If other electrical appliances react to the remote controller, either move these appliances or consult your local dealer.
Replacing Batteries
The remote control is powered by two AAA alkaline batteries housed in the back of the remote. (Do not use rechargeable batteries)
(1) Remove the cover by pressing down and sliding back.
(2) Remove the old batteries and insert the new batteries, observing polarity.
(3) Replace the battery cover.
NOTE: When the batteries are removed, the remote control erases all settings. After inserting new batteries, the remote controller
settings must be selected.

remote. The next change by the remote control, the change will update the function for the mode,

Function Buttons
①ON/OFF Button: Push this button to start operation, push the button
again to stop operation.
NOTE: The unit will initiate automatically the Energy Saver function
under Cool, Dry, Auto (Only Auto-Cooling and Auto Fan) modes.
②MODE Button:
Press this button to select the desired operation mode from AUTO,
COOL, DRY, HEAT (for Heat Models only) and FAN as the following
sequence.
③Energy Saver Button:
This function is only available on COOL, DRY, AUTO (only AUTO-
COOL and AUTO-FAN) modes. Push the button, the fan will continue
to run for another 3 minutes after the compressor stops. The fan then
cycles on for 2 minutes at 10 minute intervals. If the room temperature
goes above the set point, the compressor turns on and begins to cool.
④TEMP/TIME button:
Press the “▲” button to increase the room temperature setting or to
adjust the TIMER in a clockwise direction. Push the “▼” button to
decrease the indoor temperature setting or to adjust the TIMER in a
counter-clockwise direction.
NOTE: Press and hold “▲” and “▼” buttons together for 3 seconds will alternate the temperature display between
the ℃& ℉scale.
⑤FOLLOW ME button:
Press the button to initiate the FOLLOW ME function, the remote display is actual temperature at its location. The
remote control will send this signal to the air conditioner at 3 minute intervals until the follow me button is pressed
again. The air conditioner will beep to indicate the FOLLOW ME feature has ended if it does not receive the signal
during any 7 minute interval.
⑥SLEEP button:
In SLEEP mode, the set temperature will increase (Cooling) or decrease (heating) by 2℉over the next 30 minutes and
by another 2℉after an additional 30 minutes. This new temperature will be maintained for 6 hours before it returns to
the originally selected temperature.
NOTE: While the SLEEP mode is operating, it can be cancelled by press SLEEP button again.
⑦RESET Button:
When you press the recessed RESET button, all current setting are cancelled and the control will return to the initial
settings.
⑧FAN Button:
Select the Fan Speed in four steps AUTO, LOW, MED, or HIGH. Once pressed, the fan speed mode will change.
⑨TIMER Button:
Set the time ON (start to operate), and the time OFF (turn off the operation).
⑩CANCEL Button:
a. If the TIMER ON, TIMER ON→OFF or TIMER OFF→ON feature has been set, press the CANCEL button will
override the TIMER program and turn off the unit as well.
b. If the TIMER OFF feature is set, pressing the cancel button will cancel the TIMER OFF function, and turn the unit
on.

Setting the Clock
Before you start operation the air conditioner, set the clock of remote
control using the procedures given in this section. The clock panel on the
remote control will display the time regardless of whether the air conditioner
is in use or not.
Initial Setting or the Clock
After batteries are inserted in the remote controller, the clock panel will
display "12:00". Press and hold the CLOCK button for 3 seconds, the time
display will begin to flash.
1. TEMP/TIME adjust button
·Press this button to set time.
▲Forward.
▼Backward.
·Each time you press the button, the time moves forward or
backward by one minute depending which button is pressed. The
time alters as quickly as you push the button.
·Keep pressing the button without releasing, the time moves forward
or backward by 10 minutes depending which button is pressed.
2. Clock Button
When the right time is achieved, press the CLOCK button or release the
“▲” or “▼”and wait for 5 seconds, the clock time stops flashing and the
clock starts operating.
3. Readjust the Clock.
Press the CLOCK button on the remote controller for about 3 seconds, the
clock display time will start to flash.
To set the new time, follow 1 and 2 of “Initial Setting of the Clock”.
NOTE: The timer of the CLOCK must be set before the AUTO TIMER
feature operates. If you readjust the time of the CLOCK after setting the
AUTO ON/OFF timer, the remote control will send the readjusted timer
information to the unit.
Clock accuracy is within 15 seconds per day.
CAUTION:
Static electricity or other factors (in case of extremely high voltage) can
cause remote controller control clock to initialize. If your remote control is
initialized (flashing “12:00”), readjust the clock before you start operation.

Automatic Operation
When you set the air conditioner in AUTO mode, it will
automatically select cooling or fan only operation depending on
what temperature you have selected and the room temperature.
Once you select the operating mode, the operating conditions
are saved in the unit’s microcomputer memory.
Thereafter, the air conditioner will start operating under the same
conditions when you simply press the ON/OFF button of the
remote controller.
START the function:
Ensure the unit is plugged in and power is available. The
OPERATION indicator on the display panel of the unit starts
flashing.
1. MODE button
Press to select AUTO.
2. TEMP/TIME button
Set the desired temperature. Normally, set it between 70℉to
82℉.
3. ON/OFF button
When the remote controller is off, press this button to start the air
conditioner.
STOP the function:
ON/OFF button
Press this button again to stop the air conditioner.
If the AUTO mode is uncomfortable, you can select the desired
conditions manually. When you select the AUTO mode, you do
not have to set the fan speed. The fan speed will be
automatically controlled.

Cooling/Heating/Fan only Operation
Dry Operation
Start the function:
Ensure unit is plugged and power is available.
The OPERATION lamp on the display panel of the indoor unit starts
flashing.
1. MODE button
Press to select DRY.
2. TEMP/TIME button
Push the “TEMP/TIME”button to set the desired temperature from 70℉to
82℉.
3. ON/OFF button
When the remote control is off, push this button to start the air conditioner.
Stop the function:
ON/OFF button
Push this button again to stop the air conditioner.
NOTE: The fan speed cannot be adjusted when the unit is in AUTO or
DRY mode.
Start the function:
Ensure unit is plugged and power is available. The OPERATION lamp
on the display panel of the unit starts flashing.
1. MODE button
Press to select COOL, HEAT (for Heat Model only) or FAN ONLY.
2. TEMP/TIME button
Set the desired temperature, the most comfortable temperature is
between 70℉to 82℉.
3. FAN SPEED button
Press to select “AUTO” “LOW” “MED” and “HIGH”.
4. ON/OFF button
When the remote control is off, push this button to start the air
conditioner.
Stop the function:
ON/OFF button
Push this button again to stop the air conditioner.
NOTE: The FAN ONLY mode does not control temperature. The
temperature cannot be set on FAN ONLY mode.
