1. Introduction
TheBoxedTemperature/Humidty/CO2Transmitterisabatterypoweredwirelesstransmitter
capableofcapturingtemperatureinformationviathefittedtemperatureprobe.Thissensoris
intendedtomeasuretemperature/humidityinairofchosenlocation.Itisnotintendedforusewith
veryhotorcoldproducts,forthatcaseusetheextendedtemperaturerange(PT100)probe.(3999‐

ThismanualreferstoBoxedTemperature/Humidity/CO2forinstallationbutotherUltraRFsensor
transmittersareavailablefordifferentapplications.

2. Installation
ThisTransmitterissuppliedinaventedboxenclosure.
Itcanbefittedbyremovingthefrontcoveranddrillingthroughtherearcasingtofixintodesired
position.
Oritcanbeplacedindesignatedareasallocatedformonitoringwiththeneedtobemovedinto
differentlocations
Theyaresuppliedwitheitheraninternalantennaorexternalantennatohelpwithextendingthe
rangeiffromitsdesiredlocationitisidentifiedmoreobsticlessuchaswallsorequipmentmay
hamperthesignal.
TemperatureTransmitterscanbefittedinsidetheallocatedFridges/ColdStoresbutitisadvised
againstthisas;
ThecoldtemperaturesreachedinsomeFridges/ColdStorescanhaveadetrimentaleffectto
batterylife.Thisneedstobetakenintoaccount.
Asmoisturecanbuildupinthistypeofenvironment.Andcausedamagetotheequipment
overtime.WehaveaconformalcoatedandpottedTxavailableforthistypeofinstallation
atanadditionalcostshouldplacinginthistypeofenviormentbeunavoidable.
RangeoftheTransmitterissignificantlyreducedinthistypeofinstallation.
2.1Battery
Forsafetyconsiderations,allwirelesstransmittersaretransportedwiththeinternalbatteryfitted
butdisconnectedfromtheterminalsviaatabthatneedsremovingfromwithin.
Onfirstuseitisthereforenecessarytoconnectthebatteryfollowingthestepsbelow:
RemovetheFrontoftheunitbypullingitawayfromthebaseusingslightpressure,asitis
heldtogetherusingfourplasticpinsthatlineupwith
thebaseoftheunit.
Thiswillexposethebatterythetabwillbeplaced
inbetweenthe+Batterytermalandthecircuitboard,
oncethetabisremovedtheunitwillstart
transmitting.
ReplacetheBasebylininguptheplasticpinswithit
untilbothsidesareflush

2.2CO2Sensors
TheCO2sensorneedstocalibrateitselfwhenthebatteryisinstalled.Todothis,pleasefollowthe
sequencebelow:
1.Movethetransmitteroutsideintofreshair
2.Removethelabelprotectingthebatteryandinstallthebattery,beingcarefultoobservethe
correctpolarity
3.Leavethetransmitterforatleast2minutesinfreshairafterinstallingthebattery‐theCO2sensor
willtakeareadingandsetthisasbaselineof400ppm
4.After2minutes,installthetransmitterinitsfinallocation
Toensurenolong‐termdriftoftheCO2sensor,theaboveprocessshouldberepeatedtore‐
calibratethesensor.
ThemoreaccuratetheCO2levelreadingrequired,themoreoftenitshouldbecalibrated.Suggested
re‐calibrationintervalsare:
*Scientificexperiments‐beforeeachtest
*Greenhouse‐aftereachgrowingseason
*Manufacturing‐bi‐annuallytoannually
*Indoorairquality‐annually
Thesearegeneralguidelines.Calibrationschedulesmayalsobedictatedbyexperimentalprotocols
orbyparticularindustrialstandards.Consultyourspecificsensorrequirementsforyourapplication.

3. SensorNumbering
Eachsensorissuppliedwithauniqueserialnumbermarkedonthesidetogetherwithabarcode
whichisusedtoidentifythesensorontheRealtime‐Onlinedashboard.
Itisvitalthatthesenumbersareaccuratelyrecordedasotherwiseitwillbeimpossibletoidentify
thesensorinISLSetuportheserverdashboardforthespecificsite.
Notethatasensornumbercannotappeartwiceonthesamesite,butcanappearonmorethanone
sitedashboard.
4. LocatingSensors
Realtime‐Online™Sensorsuseradiofrequencycommunicationtoalocalgateway.Thedistance
betweensensorsandthegatewaycanalsobeverylong(upto15Kmlineofsight).However,
environmentalfactorssuchaswallsandfurniturecanreducethisdistanceconsiderablysooptimal
placementofsensorsisimportant.
NotethatthisdocumentdoesnotspecificallycovertheinstallationofGatewayswhicharecovered
inaseparatedocument,(seeindex)butthefollowinggeneralguidanceisgiven.
Whenplacingsensors,avoidthefollowing:
a. Placingthetransmitterinmetalenclosures(suchasadistributionboard,afridgeoraserver
rack).Inthesecases,trytolocatethesensorhead(CT,tempprobeetc)insidetheenclosure
andleadthecableoutside.
b. Theboxtransmittersarenotsplashproofandarenotsuitableforinstallationinoutdoor
areas.Donotinstalltheminpositionswheretheyareliabletobeexposedtowater.
c. DonotinstallthetransmittersclosetootherRFsourcessuchasalarmsystems,door
openersorotherradiosystems.AlthoughtheamountofRFenergytransmittedbythe
sensorsisverysmallindeed,thereisapossibilitythattheycouldinterferewithother
electricaldevices,sotheymustnotbeinstalledclosetootherdeviceswhichcouldbe
affectede.g.medicaldevicesorwirelessalarmsystems.
Whensitingthegateway,trytoensurethatthelocationisapproximatelyequidistantinradiosignal
termsfromallthesensors.
Typically,sensorscanbeexpectedtopassthrough4–5normalinternalwallswithoutdifficulty.

5. Checkingoperation
FollowinginstallationoftheBoxTemperaturetransmitter,itissuggestedthattheoperationis
checkedtoensurethetransmitterisbeingreceivedbytheGateway.
OpenUltraRFGatewaySetup–Thisshouldbelocatedonthedesktopofyourlaptop.
Onfirstuse,ifrequested,selecttheUSBleadbeingusedandhighlightforuse.

receivedandOrangecolourdotsshowmessagesreceivedviarepeaters.
CorrectsetupandoperationofRealtime‐online,willrequirealltheSensorID’sandTransmittertypes
inconjunctionwiththeGatewayID.
TheRSSIisshownindBmwithabarchartshowingsignalstrength.Thisisanimportantparameter.
ThetablebelowshowsdBmrangesinrelationtoSignalstrength.
Therangeshownabovereads‐100dBmthisisshowninthetableasaMarginalsignalthereforewill
needimprovingeitherbyreviewingthetransmitterlocation,movingtheGatewaycloseroraddinga
signalrepeaterinbetweentransmitterandreceiver.
