1.0 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Th Glycol Mak -up unit is d sign d to automatically
maintain minimum pr ssur in clos d-loop syst ms.
Th GMU-30 us s 1/2 HP pump for syst ms r quir-
ing up to 30-psi. Th GMU-60 us s 3/4 HP pump and
for syst ms r quiring up to 60-psi.
D p nding upon th syst m pr ssur r quir d, a
GMU-30 or GMU-60 is us d. In both units, a pr s-
sur switch starts and stops th pump(s).
1.1 PURPOSE OF MANUAL
This manual is furnish d to acquaint you with som
of th practical ways to install, op rat , and maintain
this unit. R ad it compl t ly b for doing any work
on your unit and k p it handy for futur r f r nc .

1.3 STORAGE
For long p riods of storag , th unit should b cov-
r d to pr v nt corrosion and contamination from
dirt. It should b STORED in a cl an, dry location
b tw n 0 and 170°F. Th r lativ humidity should
not xc d 85%. Th unit should b ch ck d p riod-
ically to nsur that no cond nsation has form d.

1.4 HANDLING
Car should b tak n to pr v nt damag du to
dropping or jolting wh n moving th Glycol Mak -up
Unit. Transportation damag should b brought to
th carri r's att ntion imm diat ly upon r c ipt.
1.5 TEMPERATURE AND VENTILATION
All l ctrical quipm nt is susc ptibl to failur if
op rat d in ambi nt t mp ratur s outsid of its rat-
ing. Th OPERATING t mp ratur rang for this unit
is 32 to 105°F. Th r lativ humidity should not
xc d 95% non-cond nsing. Th unit should not b
op rat d outsid th s xtr m s.
1.6 ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS - A.C. POWER &
SIGNALS INPUT VOLTAGE

1.7 GROUND CONNECTIONS
A grounding t rminal is provid d for a d dicat d
ground wir conn ction. All provisions of th National
El ctrical Cod and local cod s must b follow d.
1.8 POWER WIRING

upon conformanc with th National El ctrical Cod
and all local cod s and r strictions. In addition, only

2.0 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

tion, maint nanc , and s rvic . For Glycol application

or spills that could go down th drain or out a door
and caus a risk to th nvironm nt. R f r to local
cod s for clarification.

ov r tight n th fitting. Insp ct all visibl fittings for
l aks. Tight n th fittings if any l aks ar found. B
sur to us two wr nch s on to tight n th fitting
and th oth r to back-up th fitting. Using just on
wr nch may damag th fitting. N v r tight n a fitting
whil th r is hydraulic pr ssur in th fitting.

that th r is a thr (3) valv by-pass in th mak -up

IMPORTANT: Do not install and op rat ITT pumps
in clos d syst ms unl ss th syst m is construct d
with prop rly siz d saf ty d vic s and control
d vic s. Such d vic s includ th us of prop rly
siz d and locat d pr ssur r li f valv s, compr ssion
tanks, pr ssur controls, t mp ratur controls and
flow controls as appropriat . If th packag includ s
a pr ssur r li f valv , mak sur th discharg of
th valv is dir ct d to th floor drain b for making
th unit op rational.
IMPORTANT: If vibration liminators ar us d, not
that unl ss th piping to which th vibration limina-
tors ar conn ct d to ar prop rly anchor d to th
floor, th b n fits may not b fully r aliz d.

unit.

3.0 PUTTING THE UNIT INTO SERVICE
GMU30 is d sign d for syst ms r quiring up to
30-psi, drawing wat r or wat r-glycol mixtur up to
10-gpm from th 55-gallon tank and automatically
s rvicing th clos d-loop syst m.
GMU60 is d sign d for syst ms r quiring up to
60-psi, drawing wat r or wat r-glycol mixtur up to
5-gpm from th 55-gallon tank and automatically s r-
vicing th clos d-loop syst m.
Wh n pr ssur in th clos d-loop syst m d cr as s
to th cut-in pr ssur th pump will start. Th pump
runs until th pr ssur switch r ach s th cut-out
pr ssur . Th pr ssur switch factory d fault cut-in
s tting for GMU-30 is 5-psi, and th cut-out s tting
is 21-psi. Th pr ssur switch factory d fault cut-in
s tting for GMU-60 is 30-psi, and cut-out s tting is
50-psi.
3.1 ADJUSTMENTS AND SETTINGS
3.1.1 Pressure Switch
El ctrical quipm nt should b s rvic d only by qual-
ifi d l ctrical maint nanc p rsonn l.
Th pr ssur switch is pip d to th discharg lin .
Th r ar two adjusting scr ws locat d on th top of
th switch control. This adjustm nt must b mad
b for op rating th syst m.
Adjust pr ssur switch as follows:
a) Cut-In (Turn nut clockwis for high r pr ssur or
count rclockwis for low r pr ssur ).
b) Cut-Out (Turn nut clockwis for high r pr ssur or
count rclockwis for low r pr ssur ).
c) Ch ck switch op ration aft r r s tting.
d) S abov pictur for adjustm nt nut locations.
3.1.2 Triple Duty Valve
Th Tripl Duty Valv is pip d to th discharg of th
pump and is us d as a non-slam ch ck valv , cali-
brat d balanc valv and shutoff valv for this unit.
Th valv st m is locat d on th top of th valv . Th
Tripl Duty Valv has a calibrat d nam plat on th
valv st m for rough syst m balanc and position
indication. Prior to placing GMU into op ration,
install r must adjust th Tripl Duty Valv .
3.1.2.1 A just Triple Duty Valve
a) N v r turn th valv st m in xc ss of 100% op n
wh n syst m is pr ssur d. At this position th
valv do s not act as a ch ck valv . It is a gravity
flow valv .
b) N v r turn th valv st m to th clos d position
wh n op rating th syst m. This position provid s
positiv shutoff.
c) Adjust th valv b tw n 20% to100% op n.
3.1.3 Diaphragm Expansion Tank
Diaphragm xpansion tank factory pr -charg is 40-psi.
Adjust pr -charg to qual incoming pr ssur . R f r
to th sp cific IOM #V58303 that was shipp d with
th tank for installation and op rating instructions.
3.1.4 Low Water Cut Off Switch
Wh n th wat r or wat r-glycol mixtur in th 55-gallon
r s rvoir falls b low th low l v l point, th low wat r
cut-off switch will turn th pump off. An alarm light
will illuminat .
3.1.5 Sequence of Operation
Wh n pr ssur in th syst m d cr as s to th mini-
mum allowabl fill pr ssur , th pr ssur r ducing
valv op ns.
Th Glycol stor d in th pr ssur tank flows to th
syst m, wh n pr ssur suppli d to th pr ssur
r ducing valv r ach s th pump cut-in pr ssur , th
GMU pump will start.
Pump runs until pr ssur switch r ach s th cut-out
pr ssur .
Should th Glycol solution in th 55-gallon r s rvoir
fall b low th low l v l point in th r s rvoir, th low
l v l switch will turn pump off, an alarm light will b
signal d.

AND/OR MODERATE PERSONAL INJURY.

allow backward flow of glycol into th 55-gallon tank and

into op ration. Follow th instructions that ar suppli d with
th unit. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS
COULD RESULT IN PROPERTY DAMAGE AND/OR
MODERATE PERSONAL INJURY.
