Chapter 1 –Getting Started
1.1 INTRODUCTION
Jaze Hotspot Gateway is a complete Internet access and billing solution for public hotspots. It has been
specifically designed for use in hotels, coffee shops, restaurants, libraries, airport lounges, etc. Jaze
Hotspot Gateway enables businesses to provide secure and convenient Internet access to its customers by
providing each one of them with a unique username and password. Jaze Hotspot Gateway provides the
following benefits:
Auto Configuration: Guest devices can get connected to the network with any network settings
stored on them even if they are incompatible with the network setup.
Generate instant vouchers: Easily create users with the press of a single button and also send the
credentials via SMS.
Multiple plan types: Create prepaid, postpaid or free access vouchers with fixed expiry date and
usage limits based on time or data transferred.
Bandwidth management: Define the bandwidth limit for upload and download for each plan type.
Customisation: Fully customizable login pages, vouchers and bills with your own logos and brand
name.
The solution comprises of two components:
1. Jaze Hotspot Gateway
2. Jaze Voucher Printer

1.2 JAZE HOTSPOT GATEWAY

Jaze Hotspot Gateway comprises of the following ports:
Printer serial interface: This interface connects to the Jaze Voucher Printer via the serial cable provided. This
interface can also be connected to a COM port on a PC to access the command line interface of the device.
WAN interface: This interface connects to your Internet connection. Plug in the network cable from the
modem or router provided by your ISP into this port.
LAN interface: This interface connects to your wired or wireless network. Plug in the uplink from your existing
network into this port.
USB: This is used for backing up and restoring configuration files and firmware.
Power: Connect the pin from the power adapter provided into this jack.

The Hotspot Gateway can function both with and without the voucher printer.
The WAN interface has been configured to get an IP address automatically from your ISP’s modem or router by
default. In case you have a leased line or if you need to set up a static IP you can do so by using the Web GUI
later.
The LAN interface is configured to assign IP address to clients through DHCP. The default IP address of the LAN
interface is 172.16.1.1. To access the Web GUI of the device, connect directly to the LAN interface with a
network cable to a laptop or PC. The laptop or PC will be assigned an IP address in the range through DHCP.
Once connected you can access the Web GUI of the device by typing in the following into a browser window.
http://172.16.1.1/
This will prompt you with a screen asking you for a username and password to login as show below:

Log in with the following default username and password:
Username: admin
Password: jaze
Once you have logged in using the default username and password will be able to access the Web GUI of the
device as shown on the next page.

1.3 JAZE VOUCHER PRINTER

Jaze Voucher Printer works with the Jaze Hotspot Gateway and allows you to print vouchers, send SMS, print
bills and view statistics. It comprises of a keypad with keys as follows:
1. Bill plan mapped keys: These keys can be mapped to a specific bill plans and are used to generate

vouchers based on the bill plan to which they are mapped.
2. Search key: This key is used for searching for vouchers which are currently being used.
3. List key: This key lists all the vouchers that are currently being used.
4. Navigation keys: These keys are used for seleting options on the display by scrolling up or down
through lists.
5. Function keys: These keys perform fuctions based on soft keys displayed on the screen.
6. Statistics keys: These keys are used to display statistics about the number of vouchers created and the
number of vouchers currently connected.
7. Test key: This key is used for performing tests on the SIM card by sending a test SMS or by making a
test call.
8. Help key: This key provides a Help screen which displays the function provided by each key.

INSERTING A SIM CARD
In order to use the SMS functionality of the device, a SIM card must be inserted into the device. To insert a SIM
card you will need to open the screws on the back of the device and remove the back panel. Inside, you will find
a slot for the SIM card as show below:

To insert the SIM card, pull the top of the SIM card slot down to release the lock.
Then insert the SIM card into the SIM card holder and lock it back by pushing it up.
Once completed, put the back panel and the screws back on the device.

Jaze Voucher Printer comprises of the following interfaces:
1. Power pin: The power adapter provided with the voucher printer is plugged in into this port,
2. Debug interface: This interface is used for performing software upgrades on the voucher printer
3. COM 1: This interface connects to the printer port on the Jaze Hotspot Gateway via the serial cable
provided.
4. COM 2: This interface is used for optionally connecting to an external printer and is disabled by
default.

1.4 PHYSICAL SETUP

The network needs to be setup as follows:
The WAN interface of the Hotspot Gateway needs to be connected to Internet. The Internet uplink can
be an ISP modem or router and supports both broadband and leased lines.
The LAN interface is connected to a switch which in turn connects to your wired or wireless network.
The COM 1 port on Voucher Printer is connected to the Printer port on the Hotspot Gateway.
Optionally, a PC connected to a laser printer can be used for printing out vouchers and bills if required.
Once all the components are plugged in and powered on, the device can be configured from any wired or
wireless client connected to the network. Steps to access the Web GUI of the device is explained under 1.2 Jaze
Hotspot Gateway.

2.1 DEFAULT SETTINGS
The following are the default settings on the Jaze Hotspot Gateway:

2.2 LAN IP SETTING
The Jaze Hotspot Gateway has been assigned an IP address of 172.16.1.1 by default. This IP address is assigned
to the LAN port of the Jaze Hotspot Gateway. To chane the LAN IP address of the device, log onto the device to
access the Web GUI.
1. Click on LAN under Network in the Web GUI.
2. On the Network settings: LAN page, type in your desired IP address in the text box.
Choose the appropriate subnet mask you would like to use for your LAN from the dropdown box.
3. Then Click on the Save button.
4. You will then be prompted to reboot your device to apply the changes made.
5. Click on reboot on the prompt that appears or click on Reboot system under Diagnostics.
6. On the Diagnostics: Reboot system page, click on Yes to reboot the system and apply the changes.
Wait for about a minute for the system to reboot. Once rebooted, you can access the device at the new

LAN IP address.
Please note that you may have to change the IP address on your laptop or PC to make sure it is in the same
range of the newly set IP address.
You may also want to change the DHCP server settings on the device to make sure that the Jaze Hotspot
Gateway gives IP address to its client in the new LAN IP range.

2.3 WAN IP SETTING
The WAN port of the Jaze Hotspot Gateway connects to a modem or the router which connects you to the
Internet. By default, the WAN port os configured to obtain an IP address from DHCP. This allows the device to
get an IP address automatically from the modem or router.
If you want to assign a Static IP to the WAN interface, please follow the following steps:
1. Click on WAN under Network in the Web GUI.
2. On the Network settings: LAN page, choose Static from the Type dropdown box.
3. Under the Static IP configuration, type in the desired static IP address and the subnet mark from the
dropdown list.
4. Enter the IP address of the Gateway which connects you to the Internet.
5. Click Save to apply your settings to the WAN interface.

2.4 CONFIGURING DNS
The DNS servers are used to resolve hostnames to IP addresses on the DHCP clients.
The following steps are used to define the DHCP servers.
1. Click on DNS under Network in the Web GUI.
2. On the Network settings: DNS page, you can define three different DNS servers with DNS 1 being
the DNS server with the highest priority and DNS 3 being the server with the lowest priority.
3. Once the DNS servers are entered, click on Save to apply your changes.

2.5 CONFIGURING DHCP SERVER
The DHCP Server is used to allocate IP addresses to clients on the network. The following section outlines the
steps to configure the Hotspot Gateway as a DHCP server:
1. Click on DHCP server under Network in the Web GUI.
2. On the Network settings: DHCP server page, check the checkbox against Enable DHCP server on
LAN interface to enable the DHCP server.
3. The Available range the entire range of IP address which can be used. Under DHCP Range, define the
range of IP addresses which the DHCP server must allocate to the clients. This range must be withing
the range of IP address shown in the Available range.
4. Click Save to apply the changes to the DHCP settings.

Chapter 3 –System Settings
3.1 CHANGING THE WEB GUI PROTOCOL AND PORT NUMBER
The Web GUI of the Hotspot Gateway by default uses http and runs on port 80. To change the Web GUI
protocol or the port number, use the following steps:
1. Click on General under System in the Web GUI.
2. In the System settings: General page, under the WebGUI protocol and port section, you can choose
between http or https for the protocol.
By default, http runs on port 80 and https runs on port 443.
3. In order to change the port from the default port, type in the desired port for the Web GUI in the Web
GUI port text box.
4. The Domain can be any word with or without dot separators between the words.
5. Click on Save to apply the settings. You will be prompted to reboot the device to apply the settings.
6. Once the device has rebooted, you can access the Web GUI with the new settings using the following
format:
<http/https>://<IP address/hostname.domain>:<port number>
