This product is guaranteed for 1 year from the
date of original purchase.
If any defect arises due to faulty materials or
workmanship, the unit will, either be repaired,
replaced or refunded at our discretion.
The following conditions apply:
• The product must be returned to the retailer
with original proof of purchase.
• The product must be installed and used in
accordance with the instructions contained
in this user instruction guide.
• It must be used only for domestic purposes.
• It does not cover wear and tear, damage,
misuse or consumable parts.
• The supplier has no responsibility for
incidental or consequential loss or damage.

When using the vacuum cleaner, basic safety
precautions should always be observed, including the
following:
1. Only use the vacuum cleaner indoors on dry
surfaces.
2. Turn off the vacuum cleaner controls before
connecting to or disconnecting from the mains
supply.
3. Always unplug the vacuum cleaner before
connecting or disconnecting the vacuum hose.
4. Use only as described in this manual. Use only
the manufacturer’s recommended attachments.
5. Close attention is necessary when used by or
near children. Do not allow children to use as a
toy.
6. Do not use the vacuum cleaner with a damaged
cord or plug. Do not use the vacuum cleaner if it
has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors or
dropped into water. Return the vacuum cleaner to
a Vax Authorised Service Agent or suitably
qualified person for examination, repair or
adjustment.
7. Do not pull or carry by the cord. Do not use the
cord as a handle, close a door on the cord or pull
the cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not
run the vacuum cleaner over the cord. Keep the
cord away from heated surfaces.
8. Do not handle the plug or vacuum cleaner with
wet hands. Do not use outdoors or on wet
surfaces.
9. Do not put any objects into openings. Do not use
with any openings blocked and do not restrict air
flow. Keep all openings free of dust, lint, hair or
anything that may reduce airflow.
10. Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers and all parts of
the body away from openings and moving parts.
11. Do not pick up hot coals, cigarette butts,
matches or any hot, smoking or burning objects.
12. Do not pick up flammable or combustible
materials (lighter fluid, petrol, kerosene, etc) or
use in the presence of explosive liquids or
vapours.
13. Do not vacuum up harmful or toxic material
(chlorine bleach, ammonia, drain cleaner, etc).
14. Do not vacuum up hard or sharp objects such as
glass, nails, screws, coins, etc.
15. Do not use without the filters in place.
16. Use extra care when vacuuming on stairs.
17. Keep vacuuming area well lit.
18. Store the vacuum cleaner indoors in a cool,
dry area.
19. Turn off the switch before unplugging.
20. Use only CE-approved 13 amp extension cords.
Non-approved extension cords may overheat.
Care should be taken to arrange the cord so that
the cord cannot be pulled or tripped over.
21. Do not use the vacuum to pick up builders
rubble, sand, plaster dust etc.
22. This vacuum is designed for domestic use only.
Industrial or commercial use invalidates the
warranty.
WARNING: Always switch off and unplug the
vacuum cleaner from the electrical outlet before
assembling, opening or emptying the dirt container, or
before connecting/disconnecting the attachments.
CAUTION: The vacuum cleaner is a very
powerful unit. Before plugging the cord into the
outlet make sure the switch is in the ‘off’ position. Hold
the vacuum cleaner firmly when starting and in use.
IMPORTANT: If the vacuum inlet or hose is
blocked, switch off the vacuum cleaner and
remove the blockage(s) before re-starting the vacuum
cleaner.
IMPORTANT: Cleaning filters improves vacuum
performance. Make sure all filters are replaced
back into the vacuum cleaner before using.
IMPORTANT: The motor is equipped with a
thermal cut-out. If, for any reason, the vacuum
cleaner should over-heat, the thermostat will
automatically turn the unit off. Should this occur,
unplug the vacuum cleaner from the electrical outlet
and turn off the switch. Remove the dirt container and
empty. Clean the filters. Allow the cleaner to cool for
approximately one (1) hour. To re-start, plug into the
electrical outlet and switch back on.
This vacuum cleaner is intended for household use
only and not for commercial or industrial use.

4. Electrical afety
Before switching on, make sure that the voltage
of your electricity supply is the same as that
indicated on the rating plate. This product is
designed to operate on 220 – 240V AC, 50Hz.
Connection to any other power source may
damage the unit.
This product may be fitted with a non –
rewireable plug. If it is necessary to change the
fuse in the plug, the fuse cover must be refitted.
If the fuse cover becomes lost or damaged, the
plug must not be used until a suitable
replacement obtained.
If the plug has to be changed because it is not
suitable for your socket, or becomes damaged
in any way, it should be cut off and an
appropriate plug fitted following the wiring
instructions below. This should be carried out by
a qualified electrician. The plug removed must
be disposed of safely, as insertion into a 13 Amp
socket is likely to cause an electrical hazard.

Wiring Instructions
The wires in this mains lead are colored in
accordance with the following code:
Blue = Neutral Brown = ive
As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of
this appliance may not correspond with the
coloured markings identifying the terminals in
your plug, proceed as follows (refer to the plug
wiring diagram).
• The wire which is coloured B UE must be
connected to the terminal which is marked
with the letter N or coloured Black.
• The wire which is coloured BROWN must
be connected to the terminal which is
marked with the letter or coloured Red.
If a 13Amp (BS1363) plug is used, a 13Amp
(BS1362) fuse must be fitted, or if any other type
of plug is used, a 13Amp fuse must be fitted,
either in the plug or adaptor, or on the
Distribution Board.

5. Assembly
IMPORTANT: Always remove the power
plug from the electrical outlet before
assembling or removing accessories.
Handle Assembly
1. Firmly push the back panel onto the base
assembly. Ensure it is fully located before
inserting the two short screws (Fig.5/1).
2. Slide the handle into place onto the top of the
back panel. Secure the top handle to the back
panel by inserting the two long screws (Fig.5/2).
Assembling the Dirt Container
3. Insert the bottom of the dirt container to align
with the tab on the upper cover of the motor. To
secure the dirt container, push the top in place,
there will be an audible click when it is secure
(Fig.5/3).
Assembly of the Hose
4. Align the tabs on the lower hose/inspection
tube with the slots on the hose. Push and turn
the hose clockwise until secure (Fig.5/4).
5. Wrap the hose round and through the hose
clip and then down and insert into hose
connector (Fig.5/5).
Cord torage
This vacuum cleaner is equipped with a
convenient cord storage feature. The power
cord winds around the two cord holders at the
side of the unit. The bottom cord holder has a
quick release feature. Turn the cord hook to the
left or the right to remove the power cord
(Fig.5/6).
