2 Preface
This landing gear is not an independent functional unit. It is
designed for mounting on a trailer.
It must not be used until it has been established that the trailer
on which the landing gear has been mounted complies with the
national regulations for road traffic.
The landing gear may only be put into operation with the aid of the
owner’s manuals for the towing vehicle, trailer and landing gear.
ATTENTION!
The safety information is collated in one section. Where
the user of the landing gear is in danger, the safety
information is repeated in the individual sections and
marked with the danger symbol shown here on the left.
ADVICE!
Technical modifications reserved. You will find the latest
information at: www.jost-world.com

3 Safety instructions
The following safety instructions apply to operation, servicing
and installation. The safety instructions of the towing vehicle and
trailer vehicle also continue to apply.
Safety instructions directly linked to the activity are listed again in
the individual sections.
Towing vehicle owner’s manual
Trailer vehicle owner’s manual
BGV D8 “Accident prevention regulations for winches,
lifting gear and towing equipment”
BGV D29 "Accident prevention regulations for vehicles”
Employers’ liability insurance regulations for vehicles
ATTENTION!
Safety information in the following sections is shown
with the warning triangle symbol. You must comply with
this safety information without fail.
3.1 Safety instructions for operation
The landing gear may only be operated by authorised person-
nel.
The landing gear may only be operated if the trailer vehicle
has been secured to prevent it rolling away.
When releasing the crank, remember that it may recoil.
Low or high gear must always be engaged.
When the trailer vehicle is in motion, always place the crank
in the crank holder.
The crank must always be installed.
Always fully retract the landing gear when the vehicle is in
motion.
When supporting the vehicle, make sure the ground is suffi-
ciently firm and/or position a suitable base underneath (min.
250 mm x 250 mm).
When supporting the vehicle, ensure the feet of the landing
gear can move freely and/or the castors can turn.
Only park the trailer vehicle on an even surface.
Do not shore up landing gears, e.g. to compensate for height
differences.
Do not exceed the upper or lower lifting limit of the landing
gear.
Driving with a damaged landing gear is prohibited.
If the landing gear is damaged, have it repaired immediately
by an appropriately qualified specialist.
Make sure no-one is under the trailer vehicle when coupling
and uncoupling.
Make sure no-one is under the trailer vehicle when it is being
supported.

3 Safety instructions
3.2 Safety instructions for maintenance
Only use the specified lubricants for maintenance work.
Maintenance work must be carried out by skilled personnel.
3.3 Safety instructions for installation
Landing gears must be mounted on the trailer vehicle in line
with the installation guidelines.
If the landing gear is not installed correctly, all warranty
claims against the manufacturer and the supplier of the land-
ing gear will be rendered void.

The landing gear is designed for trailer vehicles such as semi-trail-
ers, single-axis trailer vehicles and centre-axle trailers.
The landing gear supports the trailer when it is uncoupled. For cou-
pling and uncoupling, use the height adjustment function to set
the laden or unladen trailer vehicle to the coupling height of the
towing device.
The landing gear can be used on laden and unladen trailer vehicles.
Furthermore, parked up trailer vehicles may be laden, providing
the appropriate safety regulations are complied with.
Any other usage requires the written approval of JOST-Werke.

ATTENTION!
When you have finished turning the crank handle,
slowly take the strain off the crank. There is a risk of the
crank recoiling.
High gear (2): To lower and retract the landing gear quickly
and to bridge ground clearance.
Low gear (3): To raise and lower the laden and unladen
trailer.
Gear change
High gear (2): Remove the crank from the parking hook and
pull it out fully until the gear engages. A slight
turning motion facilitates the gear change.
The gear locking mechanism must engage.
Low gear (3): Remove the crank from the parking hook and
push it in fully until the gear engages. Finally,
hang the crank in the crank holder. A slight
turning motion facilitates the gear change.
The gear locking mechanism must engage.

5 Operation
5.2 Uncoupling the semi-trailer
1
JSK-ST/09
ATTENTION!
When you have finished turning the crank handle,
slowly take the strain off the crank. There is a risk of
the crank recoiling. Watch out for the end of the lifting
motion.
Check the landing gear for damage and have any damage
repaired before use.
Park the trailer on firm, flat and level ground (see “Trailer
vehicle” owner’s manual). Put a suitable base (1) underneath
the landing gear if necessary.
Engage high or low gear and wind down the landing gear.
Shift from high gear to low gear before the foot makes con-
tact with the ground.
Uncouple the towing vehicle (see “Towing vehicle” and “Tow-
ing device” owner’s manuals).
Finally, hang the crank in the crank holder.
ATTENTION!
Do not move the uncoupled trailer, even with the “R-
foot”.
5.3 Coupling the semi-trailer
ATTENTION!
When you have finished turning the crank handle,
slowly take the strain off the crank. There is a risk of the
crank recoiling.
Engage low gear and adjust the coupling height (see “Towing
vehicle” and “Towing device” owner’s manuals).
Completely retract the landing gear after hitching up.
Hook the crank into the crank holder with the gear engaged.

5 Operation
5.4 Loading the supported trailer vehicle
ATTENTION!
Providing the appropriate safety regulations are com-
plied with, the supported trailer vehicle may be loaded
•using a crane
•using a forklift.
Do not exceed the centre of gravity, otherwise the
trailer vehicle will tip over.

6 Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
The landing gear is cleaned along with the vehicle. No special
cleaning is required. Use commercially available cleaning agents
intended only for this purpose.
Do not aim high-pressure cleaner directly at the area around the
gear.

6.3 Lubricants
To lubricate the gears:
Lubricating grease, standard type
To lubricate the spindle and spindle nut:
JSK-ST/11
1
High-performance EP lithium soap grease with good adhesion
and corrosion-protection properties, and temperature range
suitable for the application in question.
Wind the winch out as far as possible on the shaft.
Remove the plug (1) to open the lubricating hole.
Fill the grease trough in the spindle nut with approx. 200 g of
special grease.
Wind the spindle in as far as it will go, then out and in again.
Seal the lubricating hole once more with the plug (1). If using
a grease nipple, only use the genuine JOST part JS E0084000.
ATTENTION!
Using a different grease nipple may damage the landing
gear.

6 Maintenance
6.4 Disposal instructions for lubricants
The manufacturer of the lubricant will supply the disposal instruc-
tions for the lubricants used.
The following applies to grease delivered ex works:
Dispose of as special waste, disposal key no. 120 112 EAK
PCB content: free from PCB
Halogen content: free from halogen
6.5 Disposal instructions for landing gear
The installed parts are valuable raw materials that can be recycled.
They can be separated into plastic, rubber and metal materials.
Plastic and rubber are labelled in accordance with VDA Recom-
mendation 260.
