USER MANUAL

Warning
1. Installation and service should be performed only by qualified and
experienced technicians and comply with all local codes and rules to
maintain your warranty.
2. To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose the product to
rain or moisture.
3. Wipe the case with a dry soft cloth. For tough stains, slightly apply with
diluted neutral detergent and wipe with a dry soft cloth.
4. Do not apply benzene or thinner to the case, which may cause the surface of
unit to be melted or fogged.
5. Avoid operating or storing the unit in the following locations:

Get Started
This user manual is designed as a reference for the installation and
manipulations of the unit including the product’s features, functions.
Please read this manual thoroughly and save it for future use before
attempting to connect or operate the unit. The reader is supposed to be
able to get the following information in this manual.
1. Product Overview: the main functions and system requirements of
the unit.
2. Installation and Connection: instructions on unit installation and wire
connections.
3. Administration and Configuration: the main menu navigation and
controls explanations.

FCC Compliance Statement
Information to the user: This unit has been tested and found to comply with
the limits for FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two
conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this
device must accept any interference received, including interference that
may cause undesired operation. These limits are designed to provide
reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential
installation. This unit generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency
energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the manual, may

Unpacking Your S4 & Placement Guidelines
Unpacking
Carefully remove your S4 from its shipping carton and locate the enclosed
accessories:
• AC and DC power cord
• A 12V trigger wire for auto turn on. It has a mono 3.5 mm mini plug at each end.
• Remote.
While you are unpacking your S4, inspect it thoroughly for possible shipping
damage and tell your KECES dealer immediately if you find any evidence of
shipping damage. This would be a good time to make a copy of your sales
receipt to store with the S4’s original packing.
Note:
Please save and store both the inner and outer cartons and, most especially, the
foam packing inserts to protect the S4 if you have to move it or ship it. You may
wish to flatten the cardboard cartons to save room in storage after cutting the
taped seams on the bottom flaps.

Placement Guidelines
The S4 will be easier to use and will last longer if you follow these simple
guidelines:
• Place the S4 on a surface that will adequately support its weight.
• Use input and output cables that are long enough to leave some slack; that will
enable you to pull the S4 out of a cabinet to check or to change connections
without inadvertently disconnecting cables.
• The S4 should never be placed in a completely enclosed cabinet.
• Place your S4 where you can route input and output signal cables as far as
possible from any AC cords.
Ventilation Requirements
• Always position the S4 horizontally.
• The S4 should never be stacked directly above another power amplifier or
directly below another component.
• Do not install the S4 in an unventilated equipment cabinet or compartment.
Pockets of stagnant hot air can build up even in a cabinet with an open front and
back. A ventilation fan is recommended to prevent “hot spots” in confined
spaces.

AC Mains Voltage
Make sure the 115V/230V Voltage Selector switch on the S4 Power bottom plate
is set for the correct Ac line(mains) voltage before you plug in the power cord. It
can be seriously damaged if this switch is set for the wrong AC mains voltage.
In the 115V position the S4 can safely operate with AC Line voltages between
110-125V which is correct for North America, Mexico, and Taiwan. In some
countries, such as Brazil, AC voltages differ by region. Most other countries
require setting it to 230V. With the 230V setting the S4 can operate safely with AC
line voltages between 220-250V. If the AC Voltage Selector is changed the rear
panel fuse value must also be changed. The S4 operates on 50Hz or 60Hz AC.
Note:
An S4 that has been damaged by connection to the incorrect AC mains voltage
is not covered by the KECES warranty.

Interface

Audio Connections
Always disconnect the AC cord to your S4 Power before making or changing any
input, output or trigger wire connections. Inserting or removing an input or output
cable while the S4 is turned on can result in a blast of sound that can damage
your loudspeakers. Make sure there is no strain or tension on any cables that
could cause them to pull loose.
Audio Input Connections
Balanced XLR Input/Output Jacks
In most systems balanced XLR connections will give you the best sound. If your
Source/Power Amplifier have balanced XLR output/Input jacks, we recommend
that you connect them to the S4 inputs/output. Refer to the Balanced and
Unbalanced Lines in Technically Speaking section for additional information
about why we recommend using balanced lines.
Unbalanced RCA Input/Output Jacks
Use these inputs/output if your source/power amplifier don’t have balanced XLR
output/input connections or if you simply prefer to use unbalanced connections.
MM/MC Input RCA Jack and Selector Switch
Place the switch for the MM or MC on the rear panel. When switch to MC mode,
please also selector the loading impedance. When switch to MM mode, you do
not need select any impedance.
Optical (DS Audio) Input RCA Jack
It is optical cartridge input.
Balanced XLR Pin Configuration
The S4 XLR jacks conform to the industry standard of:
Pin 1: Ground Pin 2: Positive(+) Pin 3: Negative(-)

Front Panel Operation
Knob
Push 3 seconds to turn on/off the S4. When the S4 is turned on the S4 Power
LED will change from Red to Blue. Short push it to select input channel. Spin to
change the volume.
Mute/Dim
When push the mute button, the display will be flashing. Push any button or
change the volume can remove the mute.
When push the Dim button, all of LED will turn off. Push any button or change the
volume can remove the Dim.
Headphones+Pre out/Headphones Only
Headphones +Pre out means Headphones and speakers both are output the
sounds.
Headphones Only means just speakers output the sounds.
Problems and Remedies
Unit will not turn on
• Check the trigger cable is secure between S4 and S4 Power.
• Check that the rear panel power switch is on and that the AC power is live.
No sound from speakers
• Check that input/output cables wires are secure at both ends.
• Make sure the S4 is switched to the correct input.
Overheating
• Remove any nearby external sources of heat such other audio equipment or
heaters.
• Increase ventilation around the S4.

安裝指南

交流電源電壓

確的交流電壓。若開關切換至錯誤的交流電壓，會使機器產生嚴重損壞。
電壓設置為 115V 時，S4 可以在交流電壓介於110-125V 時使用，適用於北美、墨
西哥和台灣。在某些國家/地區，如巴西，交流電壓會因地區而異。
其他大多數國家/地區都要求將其設置為 230V。電壓切換為230V 時，S4 可以在

平衡XLR 輸入、輸出
在大多數系統中，平衡XLR 連接將為您帶來最佳的聲音。如果你的訊源、後級放
大器具有平衡的XLR 輸出、輸入插孔，建議您將它們連接到 S4 輸入、輸出。
非平衡的RCA 輸入、輸出插孔
用於您的訊源、後級放大器沒有平衡的XLR 輸出連接，或者您只想使用非平衡的
連接。
ＭＭ/ＭＣ的RCA 輸入和切換開關
MM/MC 輸入需要透過背板來做切換。另外，MC 輸入阻抗可以透過背板的開寬來
做切換ㄡ。MM 輸入不需要做任何的輸入阻抗切換。
Optical 的RCA 輸入
此檔位是給DS Audio 的光學唱頭使用。
平衡XLR 引腳配置
S4 XLR 插孔符合以下標準:
Pin 1: 地 Pin 2:正極 Pin 3:負極

外觀

前面板操作
旋鈕
當S4 Power 電源開啟，按壓此選鈕三秒鐘後開、關機（S4 Powere 關機 LED 亮
紅燈，開機亮藍燈）。切換輸入檔位，短按壓此選鈕做切換選擇。調整音量則旋轉
此選扭來改變音量大小。
Mute/Dim
按壓Mute 時，此時音量數字會閃爍，代表進入靜音模式。隨意按下一顆按鈕或音
量調整及解除。
按壓Dim 時，所有燈號顯示會關掉。隨意按下一顆按鈕或音量調整及解除。
Headphones+Pre out/Headphones Only
Headphones+Pre 代表耳機和喇叭同時輸出聲音。
Headphones Only 代表只有耳機輸出聲音。
問題和補救措施
機器無法開啟
* 檢查 S4 到S4 Power 的觸發線是否有接上。
* 檢查 S4 Power 後面板電源開關是否已打開以及交流電源是否在正確電壓。
揚聲器無聲音
* 檢查信號輸入輸出線是否牢固。
* 確保 S4 切換到正確的輸入。
過熱
* 移除附近的任何其他外部熱源，例如其他音頻設備或加熱器。
* 保持 S4 周圍的通風。
