INTRODUCTION

Thank you for choosing a product from Kellfri AB. Compliance with the safety instructions, operating man-

ual and sound common sense will guarantee many years of enjoyment using the product. Kellfri’s equip-

ment and products are aimed at self-employed farmers, horse enthusiasts and other country-dwellers

who have stringent demands on performance.

PRODUCT INFORMATION

With its own hydraulic system, the chipper is ideal for operation at both PTO 540 rpm and 1000 rpm.

The hydraulic system means that the chipper’s valves and system are not overloaded, regardless of your

tractor’s rpm. Depending on the type of wood and materials to be chipped it can be a good idea, for the

best chipping performance and capacity, to use as high a speed as possible. PTO 540 rpm is the minimum

speed for good chipping, and the maximum speed is 1000 rpm. If the logs and branches are wet, you should

delimb most of the branches before using the chipper. If the material is dry, just go ahead and use it without de-

limbing. The chipper is tted with a removable branch crusher as standard. Adjustable infeed speed, powerful

bearings, forward/reverse feeder roller functionality and deep infeed hopper for safe machine feeding.

Adjustable discharge chute and ejection angle adjustment for even spreading or exact trailer lling.

Sturdy cutting disc with holes so that it can be locked for maximum safety during maintenance. Branch

crusher for best results when chipping trees with branches. On the cutting disc there are 4 blades with dou-

ble tempered cutting edges.The chipper has an adjustable counter bar for desired chip size. It is important to

set it to suit the blades on the cutting disc and for best results depending on the type of wood you have. For

maximum control, functionality and safety, infeed is done with a lever: stop, forwards, backwards and stop.

Both upper and lower infeed rollers have horizontal infeed patterns for the best possible grip on the logs

that are being chipped. With thick logs, always start with the thin end, where the rollers can grip most

easily. The infeed rollers are spring-loaded for maximum grip and infeed. Each roller is operated by its own

hydraulic motor.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Before using the equipment or product, and for the safety of yourself and others, you must

read the safety instructions and instruction manual and understand their contents. Always

keep the safety instructions and operating manual handy for users of the equipment or prod-

uct. For the safety of both yourself and others, it may be a good idea to read through the

safety instructions every now and then. If the safety instructions or instruction manual gets

damaged or in any other way cannot be used, new copies may be ordered from:

Do not use the equipment or product if you feel ill, tired or are under the inuence of alcohol.

Do not use the equipment or product if you are taking prescribed medication or drugs, or suf-

fering from severe depression or mental illness. Always comply with general rules of the road

and applicable rules stipulated by animal welfare legislation. People under the age of 15 and

those suering from mental illness are not allowed to use the equipment.

PRODUCT SAFETY INFORMATION

• Carefully read the operating manual before using the product. The product may only be

used in the way described in these operating manual.

• The product may only be used outdoors.

• Keep the work area clear of other people, moving parts increase the risk of accidents.

Respect the equipment’s risk zone! Only the operator may be present in the vicinity of

the machine while it is in operation. Children must never be present within the work area,

never let children operate the machine.

• The equipment functions optimally and most securely when it is used in the capacity for

which it is intended, do not attempt to use any means to increase the machine’s capacity.

• Never overload the machine.

• Never leave the machine unsupervised when it is running. Switch o the tractor's engine

and apply the parking brake when you leave the equipment – even for a short period.

• Never leave the machine in a raised position. There can be a loss of pressure in the hy-

draulics and the machine can drop to the ground.

• Ensure that all guards are in place and are not able to come loose before use.

• The entire length of the PTO shaft must be protected. Make sure that the safety chain is

well anchored.

• The machine must always be disengaged when undergoing maintenance or service work.

• The machine must not be used without the infeed chute or the infeed hopper.

• Do not operate the chipper if it is vibrating substantially; stop the machine immediately

and check the maintenance schedule.

• Do not use the machine until all precautionary measures have been taken.

• Do not climb on the chipper!

• NEVER try to remove objects that have got caught in the chipper while it is running. Make sure

that the machine has stopped rotating before taking any action. Wait at least ve minutes.

• NEVER put parts of the body into the chipper while it is running.

• The machine must only be lifted using the designated lifting points. Only use suitable

lifting equipment with sucient lifting capacity to lift the machine.

The original design of the machine must not, under any circumstances, be modied without

the approval of the manufacturer. Unauthorised modications and/or accessories may cause

life-threatening injuries or death to users and others.



INSTRUCTIONS FOR EMERGENCY SITUATIONS

In case of emergency, call 112

Always have a mobile phone or emergency phone available when working alone. A rst-aid kit

and re extinguisher must be kept in an easily accessible location when carrying out any work,

maintenance or service.

PERSONAL PROTECTION

Always wear suitable clothing and shoes. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery while work-

ing with the machine or the product. Long hair should be tied up when working with equip-

ment that has moving parts. Use protective gloves to avoid the risk of burns if hot surfaces

such as exhaust pipes are touched, and to avoid oil and petrol getting in contact with the skin.

Ear defenders must be worn whilst the engine is running.

SURROUNDINGS

Check that the work area is free from bystanders, children and objects before hitching or us-

ing the equipment. There is a risk of serious injury. Be extra careful if there are children in the

vicinity of the area where the equipment or product is used or stored. Check that there are no

low-hanging electrical cables within the work area. Exercise caution when working on slopes

and close to ditches.

Always work alone with equipment or products that are made for working alone. Remove all

rubbish from your work area. Keep work areas clean. Always respect the equipment’s risk zone.

STEPS TO TAKE BEFORE USE

Carefully read the safety instructions and the operating instructions. Make sure that you un-

derstand the safety instructions, operating instructions and warning decals.

Use common sense and suitable personal protective equipment when using the product.

Always check the performance of the machine combination to be used. It is important that

these are compatible and work satisfactorily together. This is to ensure that the equipment or

product works as expected, and to guarantee the safety of yourself and others.

Carry out a visual inspection of the equipment or product before use. Repair or replace dam-

aged or worn parts immediately to reduce the risk of injury. Grease moving parts and check

that all nuts and bolts are tightened. Correct if necessary.

Learn and remember the correct working method. Beginners must work slowly until they have learned

how the machine or product works. Users/customers are responsible for ensuring users can handle the

situation. If users feel that the machine is dangerous to use, the machine should not be used.

• The machine must stand on a hard and stable surface when in use. Avoid working on

slippery surfaces, especially in the winter. Make sure that the stabilisers are folded down

and standing on the ground during use.

• Make sure that there are no foreign objects in the machine before it is used.

• Check the PTO drive shaft and the 3-point linkage before connecting and using the chip-

per. Adjust the PTO shaft according to the instructions at the end of this manual.

• Check working area before work is commenced. Make sure there are no people or ani-

mals in the vicinity.

NEVER permit any inexperienced persons to drive the tractor and/or machine!

Warning!

Never use equipment or products with defective safety components.

USE

Only those who understand the safety instructions and the operating instructions may use the

equipment or product. Exercise caution and care when working with the equipment or product

and only use it in the way described in the operating instructions. There is a risk of crushing when

working with equipment that has moving parts. Exercise caution when working with equipment

with hydraulic hoses as oil under pressure can penetrate the skin. Immediately seek medical atten-

tion if this should occur. Always work alone with equipment that is made for working alone.

The product may only be used outdoors. Respect the equipment’s risk zone.

Never place the chipper on an

incline or on a sloping surface.

CHECK THE OIL LEVEL IN THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM BEFORE STARTING THE MACHINE.

Avoid accidents by respecting the

equipment’s risk zones.

CONNECTING

• Connect the machine to the tractor’s rear three-point linkage.

• Connect the PTO shaft. Adjust the length if required. (See instructions, p.20)

• Secure the chain properly.

• Check for leaks in the hydraulic system.

• Connect the 7-pin connector to the tractor.

• Check that the electricity is working by pressing the green button;

a light should come on in the valve block down by the side.

• Ready for use.

DISCONNECTING

• Reduce the tractor’s engine speed to idling. Turn o the engine.

• Before disconnecting the chipper from the tractor, park it on a level and hard surface.

Make sure it cannot fall over.

• Make sure the power shaft has come to a complete standstill before disconnecting it.

CHIPPING

DANGER! Make sure that there is access to a re extinguisher when using the chipper.

Always check the chipper’s surface temperature. If the chipper becomes hot, switch it

o and check. Address the cause.

• Familiarise yourself with the chipper without starting it.

• It is important that the chipper is stable when in use. It is important that the chipper and the trac-

tor are on the same level as much as possible. The PTO drive shaft can loosen when in operation.

• It is important to always to maintain a safe distance from the chippings discharge area. Point

the discharge chute in a direction to ensure the discharged chippings cannot put the operator

or anyone else at risk.

• Start the chipper carefully with the tractor at low revs. Then slowly increase the revs to the

correct chipping speed (540/1000 rpm). For best results, a speed of 1000 rpm is recommended.

• Leaves and pine needles can get stuck in the discharge chute if operated at 540 rpm; it is best

to delimb and cut the tops of trees to make it easier to feed material into the machine.

• Never place any body parts in the infeed hopper or in any other part of the chipper while it is running.

• Before feeding in material to be chipped into the chipper, make sure there is no metal, earth,

nails, stones, etc. in the material.

• Never work in front of the infeed chute when feeding in the material by hand.

• Make sure that there are no hands or arms close to the roller.

• Feed material into the chipper to begin chipping, and then let go of the material.

• It is best to leave smaller branches and saplings to dry before chipping. Chipping of fresh sap-

lings causes a blockage in the discharge chute.

• NOTE The oil gets hot when it passes through the hydraulic system, etc. Check the oil tempera-

ture at regular intervals, for instance after every 30 minutes operation, to prevent overheating.

Stop the machine if the oil becomes overheated and allow the oil to cool down.

• If a tree has to be removed from the infeed hopper while chipping, change the infeed rotation

to feed the tree out of the machine.

• When nished chipping, use a delimbed tree trunk to clear the inside of the chipper.

WARNING! Do not use the crane to remove trees and branches from the infeed hopper.

NOTE The operator must keep an eye on the working area at all times.

If this is not possible, the operator must work with an assistant.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

Consider the following when assembling the chipper:

Due to the weight of the chipper, it is recommended that two people work together to assemble it.

The machine must only be lifted using the designated lifting points.

Only use suitable lifting equipment with sucient lifting capacity to lift the machine.

WARNING! RISK OF CRUSHING! Do not allow anyone to stand under suspended loads!

The equipment comes in a transport frame to protect it. The discharge chute, the control bar

and the chute ap have to be tted. To t these parts, begin by removing the upper part of the

protective frame with an angle grinder, hacksaw or cutting torch. Take great care so as not to

damage the machine or the surrounding area!

1. Install the discharge chute.

1. Unscrew one“crescent”. (The tube is more stable during fastening, than

if both “crescents” are loosened.) Position the tube on the plate.

Fit the discharge chute using all 8 screws, 16 washers and 8 lock nuts [A]

CONTROL BOX FUNCTION

• 7-pin plug connected to the tractor.

• Pull out the emergency stop by turning it.

• Then press the green button, and a red light will

come on next to the electric valve.

• When the emergency stop is used, you must re-

start the chipper by pressing the green button.

• Note: This function must work, otherwise the

infeed rollers will not work.

ADJUSTMENT OF CHOKE

(infeed rollers not driving)

Tighten the Allen screws a few turns and test.

It may be necessary to repeat this process.

AFTER USE

Reduce the tractor’s speed to idling; make sure the drive shaft has stopped rotating BEFORE

disconnecting the PTO.

MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE

Make sure that the equipment is stable and cannot tip over when carrying out maintenance

and service work. Replace damaged or worn parts immediately to reduce the risk of injuries.

Carry out maintenance, service and checks in line with recommendations. Only use spare

parts with equal performance to reduce the risk of injuries and breakdowns.

• Disconnect the equipment from the tractor while faults are being repaired.

• Only use the designated lifting points for lifting; only use lifting equipment with sucient

lifting capability.

• Regularly check the condition of the equipment to prevent breakdowns.

• If cracks, twists, bends, gaps or fatigue are discovered, stop using the equipment and

rectify the fault.

• Worn parts must be replaced. Re-tighten all nuts and bolts after a few hours of operation

and at the end of a day’s work.

• Check that all nuts and bolts are tightened after maintenance and service work. Always

test the machine before starting work.

• Lubricate all grease points regularly. Grease points must be lubricated every 20 hours.

• Before repairing the hydraulic circuits, make sure there is no pressure left in the system.

The cutting disc continues to rotate after the chipper is turned o so wait until the

disc has come to a complete standstill before carrying out any work on the machine.

WARNING!

TRANSPORTATION AND STORAGE

Check that the work area is free from bystanders,

children and objects before driving o. Always

observe additional caution during transport and

moving. Ensure that the equipment or product is

well anchored and existing transport lashings are

tted. Always position the load as low as possible.

Respect the risk zones even during transport and

moving. Do not permit anyone to walk under sus-

pended loads when carrying out lifts.Trailers used

for transport should have brakes that work.

Always store the equipment or product on a dry

surface, preferably under a roof, when not in use.

Ensure that the product is stable and cannot tip

over. Never permit children to play at the storage

site. Be aware of the tipping risk!

Grease the knives for instance with Vaseline, if the

chipper is to be out in storage for an extended pe-

riod of time.

The photo shows the chipper in transport mode.

Note: Do not forget to adjust the stabilisers

so that they do not touch the ground during

transport.



Pressurised oil leaks can penetrate skin and cause serious injuries.

Do not use your hands to locate leaks.

Use a piece of paper or cardboard to search for leaks.

WARNING!

RUNNING IN THE MACHINE

Although there are no restrictions regarding operating the chipper for the rst time, we rec-

ommend that you carry out the following checks:

A. After one (1) hour of operation

1. Check that the machine is in the Safety position, see previous section.

2. Re-tighten all bolts and hardware.

3. Check that the chipping disc bearings run silently and without any play.

4. Check the condition/clearance of the branch crusher, chipping disc and counter plate.

Adjust/replace if necessary.

5. Check for any material stuck in the machine and remove before continuing to operate it.

6. Lubricate all grease points.

B. After ten (10) hours of operation

1. Repeat steps 1 to 6 above.

2. Perform service and maintenance, see page 13.

CHECKLIST BEFORE USE

In order to use the equipment eectively and safely, the operator must read and understand

machine procedures and all related safety information.

This is a checklist the operator should review before using the equipment.

It is important to follow this list for personal safety and to maintain the equipment in good

mechanical condition.

Before each time the equipment is used, the following parts should be checked:

Check and lubricate the equipment as specied in the service manual.

Check the chipping disc cover/discharge chute; remove any materials, twigs, string, etc. that have become

stuck in the machine.

Check the condition of and space around the branch crusher, chipping disc and counter plate. Adjust/replace

if necessary.

Check the conditions of all hydraulic components; maintain them in good condition.

Check that all ball bearings turn easily and freely; replace any that are sti or have stopped rotating.

Check and ensure that all guards, covers and shields are in the correct position, tted properly and working as intended.

Check that the stabilisers are folded down and standing on the ground.

Check all bolted joints and tighten them if necessary; ensure that the equipment is in good condition.

Check that all protective equipment such as protective helmets, safety goggles, protective shoes, protective

jackets, ear protectors and protective gloves are used and are in good condition.

Check that there are no loose items of clothing or jewellery when using the machine and long hair is tied up.

CONNECTING TO THE TRACTOR

This section describes how to connect the tractor’s 3-point linkage and the PTO shaft.

It is a Category 1 3-point linkage. To achieve the longest service life and for safety reasons, the

PTO shaft should be as straight as possible when the equipment is in working mode (down).

Do as follows when connecting the equipment to a tractor:

1. Make sure there are no other people close by, especially children.

2. Make sure there is enough space to back up to the machine.

3. Make sure the tractor’s arms are in their widest position.

4. Back the tractor as slowly as possible in a straight line toward the machine.

5. Park the tractor by engaging the hand brake, get o the tractor and look for the mounting

points on the chipper.

6. Raise or lower the 3-point linkage arms to bring them to the same height as the mounting

points on the chipper.

7. Get back on the tractor and make the necessary height adjustments (up/down).

8. Back the tractor slowly until the arms on the tractor and the linkage pins on the chipper are in line.

9. Park the tractor by engaging the hand brake, get o the tractor and adjust the height some

10. Secure the pins with the clips on the chipper.

11. Remove the clip in the upper linkage point on the chipper’s 3-point linkage and t the top link.

12. Use the turnbuckle on the top link to adjust the top link. Clip on the clips.

13. Adjust the top link back to its original length and lock it.
