experience.
For safety's sake, leave the mounting and
wiring work
to professionals.
•When extending the ignition, battery, or ground
wires, make sure
to use automotive-grade wires or
other wires with the range
of 14 mm

(.AWG 4) to prevent wire deterioration and
damage to the wire coating.

To prevent ashort circuit, never put or leave any
metallic objects (such
as coins or metal tools) inside
the unit.
•Ifthe unit starts

turn off the power immediately and consult your
Kenwood dealer.
•Do not touch the unit during
use because the

of the unit becomes hot and may cause

if touched.

Be sure the unit is connected to a 12V DC power
supply with anegative ground connection.
•Do not open the
top or bottom covers of the unit.
•Do not install the unit in aspot exposed

sunlight or excessive heat or humidity. Also avoid

with too much dust or the possibility of water
splashing.
•When replacing a
fuse, only use anew one with the
prescribed rating. Using a
fuse with the wrong rating
may
cause your unit to malfunction.

To prevent ashort circuit when replacing a fuse, first
disconnect the wiring harness.

Combined impedance
•Wiring
• Take the battery wire for this unit directly from the
battery. If it's connected
to the vehicle's wiring
harness, it can cause
blown fuses etc.
Ifabuzzing noise
is heard from the speakers when
the engine
is running, connect aline noise filter
(optional) to each
of the battery wire.
•Do
not allow the wire to directly contact the edge of
the iron plate by using Grommets.
·Connect the ground wire
to ametal part of the car
chassis that acts as an electrical ground passing
electricity
to the battery's negative 8terminal.
Do
not turn the power on if the ground wire is not
connected.
•
Be sure to install aprotective fuse in the power
cord near the battery.The protective fuse should
be the same capacity
as the unit's fuse capacity or
somewhat larger.
For the power cord and ground, use avehicle type
(fireproof) power wring cord
with acurrent capacity
greater than the unit's fuse capacity.

•When more than one power amplifier
are going
to be used, use apower supply wiring wire and
protective fuse
of greater current-handling capacity
than the total maximum current drawn by each
amplifier.
•Speaker Selection
•The rated input power of the speakers that are
going to be connected should be greater than the
maximum
output power (in Watts) of the amplifier.
Use of speakers haVing input power ratings that
are less than the output power of the amplifier will
cause smoke to be emitted
as well as damage.
•The impedance
of the speakers that are going
to be connected should be 20 or greater (for
stereo connections), or
40 or greater (for bridged
connections). When more than one set
of speakers
are going to be used, calculate the combined
impedance
of the speakers and then connect
suitable speakers
to the amplifier.
To prevent battery rise
When the unit is used in the ACC ON position without
turning the engine ON, it depletes the battery. Use it
after starting the engine.
Protection function
The protection function is activated in the following
situations:
This unit
is equipped with aprotection function for
protecting this unit and your speakers from various
accidents or problerns that
can occur.
When the protection function
is triggered, the
PROTECTION indicator lights and the amplifier stops
operating.
•When aspeaker wire may be short-circuited.
•When aspeaker
output contacts ground.
•When the unit malfunctions arId a
DC signal is sent
to the speaker output.
Cleaning the unit
If the front panel gets dirty, turn off the power and
wipe the panel with adry silicon cloth or 50ft cloth.
I ACAUTION I
Do not wipe the panel with ahard cloth or acloth
dampened by volatile solvents such
as paint thinner
and alcohol. They can scratch the surface
of the panel
and/or cause the indicator letters to peel off.

•Installation procedure
Since there are large variety of settings and
connections possib!e according to applications,
read
the instruction manual well to select the proper
setting and connection.
1. Remove the iCjnition key and disconnect the
negative 8terminal
of the battery to prevent short
circuits.
2. Set the unit according to the intended usage.
3. Connect the input and output wires of the units.
4. Connect the speaker wires.
5. Connect the power wire, power control wire and
grounding wire following this order.
6. Install the installation fittings in the unit.
7. ,~ttach the unit.
8. Connect the negative 8terminal of the battery.

IACAUTION I
oDo not install in the below locations;
(Unstable location,
In alocation that interferes
with driving, In alocation that gets wet, In adusty
location, In aplace that gets hot, In aplace that
gets direct sunlight, In alocation that gets hit by
hot air)
Do
not install the unit under the carpet.
Otherwise heat bUild-up occurs and the unit may
be damaged.
oInstall this unit in alocation which allows heat to
easily dissipate.
Once installed, do not place any object on top of
the unit.
The surface temperature of the amplifier will
become hot during use. Install the amplifier in a
place where people, resins, and other substances
that are sensitive to heat will not come into
contact with it.
oThis unit has cooling fan to decrease the internal
temperature. Do
not mount the unit in aplace
where the cooling fan and ducts
of the unit are
blocked. Blocking these openings will inhibit the
cooling of the internal temperature and result in
malfunction.
•When making ahole under a
seat, inside the
trunk, or somewhere else in the vehicle, check
that there is nothing hazardous on the opposite
side such as agasoline tank. brake pipe, or wiring
harness, and be careful not to cause scratches or
other damage.
o Do not install near the dashboard, rear tray. or air
bag safety parts.
oThe installation to the vehicle should securely
fasten the unit to aplace in which it will not
obstruct drivino. Ifthe unit comes off due to a
shock and hits
~; person or safety part, it may
cause injury or an accident.
•After installing the unit, check to make sure that
electrical equipment such as the brake lamps.
turn signal lamps and windshield wipers operate
normally.

IACAUTION I
•If sound is not output normally, irnmediately turn
power off and check connections.
•
Be sure to turn the power off before changing the
setting
of any switch.
•If
the fuse blows, check wires for shorts, then
replace
the fuse with one of the same rating.
•Check that
no unconnected wires or connectors
are touching the car body. Do not remove caps
from unconnected wires or connectors
to prevent
short circuits.
•Connect
the speaker wires to appropriate speaker
connectors separately. Sharing the negative wire
of the speaker or grounding speaker wires to the
metal
body of the car can cause this unit to fail.
•After installation, check
that the brake lamps,
winkers, and wipers work properly.
2.Strip the wire
Make acut in the wire sheath (insulator made from vinyl, etc.)
at the position 10 13 rnm (3/8" ... J/2") away from the end of the
wire, and then remove the unnecessary portion
of the sheath
by twisting
it.
3.Install the wire
Loosen the screw using the supplied hexagon wrench. Insert
the conductor
of the wire in the terminal hole, and then
tighten the screw.

When you wish to use the unit as a high-output

Troubleshootin9_G_u_id_e _
What might appear to be amalfunction in your unit may just be the result of slight misoperation or
miswiring. Before calling service, first check
the following table for possible problems.
•Check connections by referring to
<Protection function>.
•Replace the fuse and
use lower
volume.
•After check the speaker cord and
fixing the cause
of the short, replace
the
fuse.
•The speaker cord is shorted.
•Volume
is too high.
·PAOIL
Nosound.
(No sound from one side.)
(Blown fuse.)
The output level is too
small (or too lar e). •The
input sensitivity adjusting control
is not set to the correct osition. •Adjust the control correctly referring
to <Controls>.
The sound quality is bad.
(The sound
is distorted.) •The speakers wire
are cormected with

• A speaker wire
is pinched by ascrew

car body.
•The switches may be set improperly.
•Connect them properly checking the

HOW LONG IS THE WARRANTY
Kenwood U.S.A. Corporation ("Kenwood") warrants this product for a period of one (1) year from the date of original
purchase.
WHAT IS COVERED AND WHAT IS NOT COVERED
Except as specified below, this warranty covers all defects in material and workmanship in Kenwood car stereo components.
The following are not covered by the warranty:
1. Any product which is not distributed inthe U.SA by Kenwood or which is not purchased inthe U.S.A. from an authorized
Kenwood car stereo dealer or an automobile dealer, unless the product is purchased through the U.S.A Military Exchange
Service.
2. Any product on which the serial number has been defaced, modified or removed.
3. Damage, deterioration or malfunction resulting from:
a. Any shipment of the product (claims must be presented to the carrier).
b. Installation or removal of the product.
c. Accident, acts of nature, misuse, abuse, neglect, un?tuthorized product modification or failure to follow instructions
supplied with the product.
d. Repair or attempted repair by anyone not authorized by Kenwood.
e. Any other cause which does not relate to a product defect.
WHO IS PROTECTED
This warranty is enforceable only by the original purchaser.
WHAT WE WILL PAY FOR
We will pay for all labor and material expenses for covered items. Payment of shipping charges is discussed in the next
section of this warranty.
HOW TO OBTAIN WARRANTY SERVICE
If your KENWOOD product ever needs service:
1. Take or ship it to any KENWOOD Authorized Service Center in the U.S.A. along with & complete description of the
problem. (if you are uncertain as to whether a Service Center is authorized. please call1·800~KENWOOD for the nearest
Service Center. 1-800-536-9663).
2. Although you must pay any shipping charges if it is necessary to ship the product for warranty service, we will pay the
return shipping charges if the repairs are covered by the warranty within the United States.
3. Whenever your units are taken or sent for warranty service, you must include a copy of the original dated sales receipt
as proof of warranty coverage.
LIMITATION OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES
ALLIMPLIEDWARRANTIES, INCLUDINGWARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR APARTICULAR PURPOSE,
ARE LIMITED IN DURATION TO THE LENGTH OF THIS WARRANTY.
EXCLUSION OF DAMAGES

EXPRESS WARRANTY STATEMENT FOR CAR STEREO AND
PERSONAL AUDIO COMPONENTS
KENWOOD ELECTRONICS AUSTRALIA PTY. LTD. is proud of the quality and workmanship of its audio equipment. This
unit has been properly designed, tested and inspected before it was shipped to you. If properly installed and operated in
accordance with instructions furnished, it should give optimum reliable performance.
SCOPE OF EXPRESS WARRANTY
Each of the KENWOOD brand products is expressly warranted under normal installation and use against defects in material
and workmanship. During the express warranty period, KENWOOD ELECTRONICS AUSTRALIA PTY. LTD. will provide to any
KENWOOD Authorised Service Centre in Australia free of charge both parts and labour necessary to correct any defect in
material or workmanship. However, the exclusions noted under the heading "CONDITIONS OF THE EXPRESS WARRANTY"
are not covered by this express warranty.
EXPRESS WARRANTY PERIOD
The KENWOOD brand car stereo and personal audio components are expressly warranted for a period of ONE YEAR from
the date of the original purchase.
CONDITIONS OF THE EXPRESS WARRANTY
When requesting service under KENWOOD express warranty record, together with a valid purchase docket must be presented
to an authorised KENWOOD Service Centre with your equipment.
The following are not covered by this express warranty:
1. Voltage conversions.
2. Cabinets, grilles, other exterior finishes. belts. tape heads. and other non-durable parts and accessories.
3. Any fault caused by faulty installation, water damage. the vehicle (including its electrical system) or connection to an incorrect
power supply.
4. Periodic check-ups which do not disclose any defects covered by the warranty.
5. Units on which the serial number has been defaced, modified or removed.
6. Damage or deterioration:
a. Resulting from installation and/or removal of the product.
b. Resulting
from accident misuse.abuse. neglect unauthorised product modification or failure to follow instruetionscontained
in the Owner's Manual.
c. Resulting
from repair by anyone not authorised by KENWOOD.
d. Resulting
from installation of parts or accessories that do not conform to the quality or specifications of the original parts
or accessories.
e. Occurring during shipment (claims must be presented to shipper).
7. Damaged magnetic tapes.
8. Installation and removal charges are not covered.
9. This express warranty excludes shilJping or delivery charges to or from an authorised KENWOOD Service Centre.
10. The benefits conferred by
this express warranty are in addition to all other rights and remedies in respect of the product which
the consumer has under the Trade Practices Act and/or other State or Territory Laws.
EXCLUSION OF CERTAIN DAMAGES
KENWOOD's liability for any defective product is limited to the repair or replacement of said product at our option, and shall
not include damages of any kind, whether incidental, consequential or otherwise.
PROCEDURE WHEN REQUESTING SERVICE UNDER THE WARRANTY
1. Makeyourequipment available, with this warranty record and purchase docketattached, to the dealer from whom you madethe
purchase, orthe nearest authorised KENWOOD Service Centre, or ship your equipment in its original packaging, or equivalent,
fully insured and shipping charges pre-paid, to the authorised KENWOOD Service Centre.
2. Attach detailed description of the problem encountered, including details of any interconnections made to associated equipment.
3. Make sure you recover this card. your purchase docket and repair docket when accepting the equipment back after repair.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
1. Proper maintenance and use are important to the performance level of all KENWOOD brand products. Therefore, you should
read your instruction manual.
2. Retain your purchase docket together with this warranty record in asafe place. and present them both to prove your eligibility
for warranty work.
3. We recommend that you keep all the original packaging as it provides the best protection you can have for transportation of
your equipment in the future.

KENWOOD WARRANTY
KENWOOD ELECTRONICS CANADA INC. (hereinafter called uKENWOODU ), gives the following written warranty to the
original customer of each new Kenwood product distributed in Canada by KENWOOD and purchased from a dealer
authorized by KENWOOD.
KENWOOD
warrants that each new Kenwood product, under normal use, is free from any defects, subject to the terms
and conditions set forth below. If adefect should occur within the warranty period, repairs will be made free of charge for
parts and labour when such defects are determined by KENWOOD or its' authorized service centres to be attributable to
faulty materials or workmanship at time of manufacture. Please contact KENWOOD to confirm if adealer or service centre
is authorized
by KENWOOD.
WARRANTY PERIOD
This Kenwood product is warranted for parts and labour for a period of one (1) year from the date of original purchase, lease
or rental, except for products which are used in aprofessional or commercial application, which are warranted for aperiod
of ninety (901 days for parts and labour and are subject to the terms and conditions of the warranty.
WARRANTY EXCLUSIONS
This warranty excludes:
(a) Products purchased in a
foreign country or purchased in Canada and taken to a foreign country.
(b) Products purchased
from adealer not authorized by KENWOOD.
(c) Products with the serial number defaced, altered or missing.
(d) Periodic check-ups which do not disclose any defects covered by this warranty.
(e) Defects resulting from disaster,accident, abuse, misuse, lightning, power surges, neglect or lack of periodic maintenance,
unauthorized
modification or failure to follow instructions in the owner's manual.
(I) Defects or damage as aresult of repairs performed by aperson or party not authorized by KENWOOD.
(g) Defects
resulting from the use of parts or devices that do not conform to KENWOOD specifications.
(h) Damage or
deterioration occurring to any exterior finishes, cosmetic parts, tape heads, adaptors, antennas, cables,
tapes, discs
or faults or damage caused by defective or leaking batteries.
(i) Defects or damage occurring during shipping (claims should be presented to the shipping company).
(j) Product voltage and lor line freql,;ency conversions.
(k) Product installation or removal charges.
TO OBTAIN WARRANTY SERVICE
Should your Kenwood product require warranty service, deliver it to any authorized KENWOOD service centre and present
the original copy of your bill of sale and this warranty card as proof of warranty, or send your product fully insured and freight
prepaid to the nearest authorized KENWOOD service centre. To avoid possible shipping damage, make sure the product
is properly packed. Include a copy of your original bill of sale and this warranty card as proof of warranty along with your
name, home and/or work telephone number(sl, a complete return address and adetailed description of the fauIUs). Products
repaired
within warranty will be returned freight prepaid to destinations within Canada. The customer is responsible for all
freight and related costs for the return of productls) to destinations outside Canada.
ENTIRE WARRANTY
This warranty constitutes the entire written warranty given by KENWOOD. No person, party, dealer or service centre ortheir
agents or employees are authorized to extend or enlarge this warranty on behalf of KENWOOD by any written or verbal
statement or advertisement or promotion, including any extended warranty program or plan that may be offered by the
dealer or service centre, unless approved in writing by KENWOOD.
DISCLAIMER
KENWOOD disclaims any responsibility for loss of tim a or use of the product or any other indirect, incidental or consequential
damage to other products or goods, inconvenience or commercial loss.
NOTICE TO CONSUMER
The provisions contained in this written warranty are not intended to limit, modify, take away, disclaim or exclude any
warranties or rights you may have which are set forth in any applicable provincial or federal laws or legislation.
