1. OVERVIEW
This document shows how to install all the drivers needed to operate and communicate with
the robotic arm JACO. Every process described in this document will reference files included in
your software package mostly located in the folder named [Drivers].

5
2. WINDOWS XP
This section describes how to install the JACO’s drivers under Windows XP.
2.1. Installation
Plug the robotic arm JACO in the computer via a USB cable. Turn the robotic arm on and the
OS will detect that there is a new device to be installed. You should see a window that
asks what to do. Select the installation with a specific location.
Browse to the [Drivers] folder from the software package then continue.
It is possible that the system warns you because it does not know where the driver
comes from. Don’t worry, it is normal, just continue the installation.
Installation is completed and you should see your new device in the device manager
that can be accessed via the control panel.

6
3. WINDOWS 7
This section describes how to install the JACO’s drivers under Windows 7.
3.1. Installation
Plug the robotic arm JACO in the computer via a USB cable. Turn the robotic arm on
and the OS will detect the arm automatically as an unknown device.
3.1.1. Development Center SDK
oIn the Windows Control Panel, open the device manager and wait for the
computer to detect a Custom USB Device.
oRight click on the Kinova product that appeared and install the drivers that
were copied on your disk when you executed the KinovaSDKInstaller.
Assuming that you’ve installed the SDK in the default folder, it should be
located at
C:\Program Files(x86)\KinovaSDK\Drivers
C:\Program Files (x86)\JACO2SDK\Drivers
C:\Program Files (x86)\KinovaSDK_K-series\Drivers
…..
oWhen Windows Security window will appear, choose to install the driver
software anyway.

7
3.1.2. Jacosoft
oIn the Windows Control Panel, open the device manager and wait for the
computer to detect a Custom USB Device.
oPress the button to update the driver and choose [Browse my computer for
driver software]
oSelect the [Drivers folder from the software package] folder. The system will
find a driver but will show a publisher warning. Don’t worry and install it anyway.
3.2. *** Important note ***
If you install both programs Kinova (SDK and Jacosoft) on the same PC, you need to follow the
following procedure:
Follow the above procedures to install one of the drivers but when the time comes to
install the second driver, you need to connect Jaco arm on another USB port on your
PC. For both drivers should NEVER be installed on the same USB port.
