ThewarningontheKISSOrcaSpiritrebreatherisnotajoke.Beforebeginningyourdive,
youmustconsidertherisksinvolved.TheKISSOSconsistsofmanyparts.Allofthesecom‐
ponentswilleventuallyfail.Carefulmaintenance,assembly,andtesngwillnotprevent
thisfromhappening.Atbest,itwilldelaythefailure.TheKISSOSisnotautomacinany
way.Itrequiresconstantmonitoring,acompleteawarenessofthepotenalproblemslikely
tobeencountered,andfullknowledgeofhowtodealwithwhateverproblemsmayoccur.If
youdonothaveadequatetraining,equipment,physicalcondioning,andapropermind‐
set,donotgetinthewater.
Thediver,YOU,hasthefinalresponsibilityforhisorherownsafetyandaconswhileusing
this rebreather. All components of the KISS OS must be in good working order and be
properlyassembledandtestedtoreducetheriskoffailure.Regardlessofthetrainingand
experienceofthediverandthereliabilityoftherebreathertheriskofseriousinjuryand/or
deathcanneverbereducedtozero.
ThismanualisnotacompletetextonthemaintenanceandoperaonoftheKISSOS.The
divermustcompleteapropertrainingcoursecoveringthemaintenance,tesngandopera‐
onoftherebreatherbeforedivingthisequipment.Therebreathercanmalfunconwhile
diving even when properly assembled and having passed all pre‐dive tests. Only carrying
adequatebailoutgasandhavingthetrainingandskillsnecessarytoulizethebailoutsys‐
temcanreduce,butnevereliminate,theriskofequipmentfailure.

BOV‐BAILOUTVALVE
TheBOV,orrebreathermouthpiece,isakeycomponentontheKISSOSdivingsystem.Shoulddiverschoosetosource
theirownBOV,itisextremelyimportantthattheychooseaproductfromareputablecompanyandthatitcomesfied
withabailout2ndstageregulator.Theintegrated2ndstageregulatorisakeysafetycomponentforthediver.
Shouldthedealerordiverchoosenottouseabailouttyperebreathermouthpiece,thewarrantyonthatdivingsystem
willberevoked.Wecan’tstressenoughtheimportanceofthisfeature.
RequiredParts:
TheKISSOSBASICwillshipwiththeloophoses,aswellasthepartstoaachthesehosestothescrubberhead’s.The
customerwillneedtopurchaseaBOV&partswithwhichtosecurethemouthpiecetothesehoses.
ItisimportantthatwhenchoosingamethodtosecuretheloophosestotheBOV,thattheBOVcanberemovedeasily.
ThisisimportantastheBOVmushroomvalves(valvedisks)mustbeinspectedpriortoeverydive.
LOOPHOSEBALLASTRINGS
Theballastringsmayseemlikeaninsignificantpartoftherebreatherbutinrealitytheyareanimportantpartofthe
divingsystem.Havingeithertoomuchortoolileweightontheloophoseswillcausemuchdiscomfortandstressto
divers.
WhentheballastissuppliedbyKISSRebreathers,8rings,4perside,areused.Thetotalweightofourballastringsare
1.04lb;or.13lbeach.ThisisimportantinformaonasotherSSringsonthemarket,whilelookingverysimilar,areac‐
tuallyalighterweight.Ifyouchoosetousetheserings,ensurethatyouknowwhatthetotalweightwillbeandthat
youpurchaseenoughofthem.
Therearealsootherballastsystemsonthemarket.Again,becertainthatyouknowwhatthetotalweightofthose
systemswillbe.
Goodfeaturestowatchforinaballastsystemistheabilitytomovetheweightupordownthehoses,whileunderwa‐
ter.ThisiswhySSringsworksowell;theyareeasilymovedduringthedive.Itisimportanttobeabletomovethem
duringthediveasthisistheonlymethediverwilltrulyknowiftheweightisproperlyposioned.Movingtherings
upordownslightlycanmakeadifferenceinthecomfortofthediver.
OXYGENFIRSTSTAGEREGULATOR
Theoxygenfirststageregulatorislocatedontheboomoftherebreatherandissecuredtotheonboardcylinder.
Dealersanddiversthatchoosetousetheirownfirststagesmustchooseafirststagefromtheapprovedlistbelow.
Priortofinalassemblyoftherebreathertheoxygenfirststagemustbemodified.Thetopringofthefirststagemust
beremoved,theenvironmentalplugandsealremovedandtheKISSdelrinplugwithO‐ringinserted.Todothis:
Loosenthetopringofthefirststage.
Tipthefirststageoverandtheenvironmentalplugwillfallout.
Thetopringhasasealinsertedintoit;useyourfingerstopushitoutandremoveit.
LubricatetheO‐ringwithoxygencompablegrease,andensureitissecuredtothedelrinplug.

Pushthedelrinplugfirmlyintoposion.
Securethetopringtothefirststagebody.Whileturningthetopringin,youwillneedtopushthecentreofthe
delrinplugtoholditfirmlyinposion.Ifyoudon’tdothis,thedelrinplugwillwanttopushupandoutmakingit
difficulttosecurethering.
Ensurethattheringisproperlysecured.
Oncethedelrinplughasbeeninstalled,anOPVwillneedtobeinsertedintooneofthelowpressureports.TheOPVis
animportantpartofthefirststageregulatoranddiversshouldnotdivetheKISSOSwithoutonepresent.
ItisimportantthatboththedelrinplugandtheOPVbeproperlyinstalledontheoxygenfirststage.Ifthedelrinplugis
notinstalledtheoxygendeliverysystemontheOSKISSwillnotworkproperly!

Congratulaons!YouhavejustreceivedyourKISSOrcaSpirit;thefirstthingtodoisen‐
surethatallthepartsyouordered,areincludedinthebox.Asyouknow,theKISSOScan
beshippedeitherastheBASICunitorwithvariouscomponentsadded.Pleaseseethe
previouspartspageforalistofwhatisincludedwiththeBASICkit,andwhattheoponal
extrasare.Gothroughtheboxandensurethateverythingthatyouorderedhasarrived.
Smallitemscanbelostinbubblewrapsoensurethatyoulookcarefullyinthepackingma‐
terialalso.
TheOSshipswithalltheO‐ringsinstalledandtheunitisassembled.Thefollowinginstruc‐
onsarefordisassemblingtheOS.
Removethebackcover.Removethewing/harnessfromthefrontoftheunit,byloos‐
eningthefing’s,andsengthemaside.Thecounterlung’swillslidethroughthe
slotsandstayaachedtotheunit.
YouwillseethattheSensorHeadissecuredtotheScrubberCanisterusingathreaded
ring.LoosentheSensorHeadbyturningtheringle.Oncetheringhasbeendisen‐
gaged,pulltheheaduptofreeitfromthescrubbercanister.Theringwillspinfreely
onceclearofthethreads.
OntheGasAddionHeadyouwillseethatthereisaLPhoseaachedtoanelbow
securedtotheAutomacDiluentValve‐ADV.Loosen&removetheelbowfromthe
ADV,andthenloosentheringfromtheScrubberCanisterandpulltheheaduptoremoveit.
InsidetheScrubbercanisteryouwillseethesecuringscreens.Pullthemoutandlaythemaside.
Loosen&removethefirststageregulatorfromthecylinder.(ifordered)
LoosentheFastexclampwhichissecuringthecylinderandremovethecylinder.
Youwillseethat2blackcircclipsaresecuredtothecrossbar,andaachedtoeachotherbyalengthoftwine.
Pullthecircclipsoutoftheirslotsandsetaside.
Thecrossbarcannowbepulledfreefromtheboomofthescrubbercanister.Whileholdingthecanisterfirmly,
pullthebarstraightdown.
Thecounterlung’saresecuredtothecrossbar.TurntheCLringstoloosenthelungsandpullthemoffthebar.Set
aside.
LaytheOSdown,scrubbersideup.LoosentheFastexclampssecuringthecanistersandremovethem.
TheBOVwillbepackagedseparately(ifordered),alongwiththeloophoses.
Thedisplaywillbepackagedseparately(ifordered),howeverifthecableisordered,itwillbesecuredtothe
scrubberhead.
Theunitisnowdisassembled.Furtherseconsofthismanualwilldiscuss,assembly,scrubberpacking,sensorinstalla‐
on&displays,andtroubleshoong.

Assembly
ThisseconwilldiscussthefullassemblyofyourKISSOS;Itassumesyourscrubbercanisterhasbeenfilledandisready
todive.Thenextseconwilldiscussscrubberpacking.
O‐RingInstallaon:
Asmenonedearlierinthemanual,alltheO‐ringsfortheKISSOShavebeeninstalled.Aseachseconisdiscussed,O‐
ringplacementwillbemenonedwhenrequired.Atthebackofthismanualyouwillfindarecommendedspareparts
sheet.ThereyouwillfindalistoftheO‐ringnamesandwhatkitconfiguraonsareavailable.
Aswithanypieceofscubadivingequipment,thevariouscomponentsandO‐ringsshouldbecheckedannually,and
servicedasrequired.Forthosedoingextensivediving,thevariouscomponentsandO‐ringsshouldbecheckedmore
frequently.ServicingofyourKISSOScanbedonebyyou,yourdealer,orthepartscanbereturnedtous.

Inspect:
Withtheunitstripped,firstinspectallLPhoses,fings,themanifold,andcomponentsaachedto
theframeoftheunit.Ensurethattheyareinproperworkingorder,thattheLPhosesarenotdam‐
aged,allconneconsareght,threadedrodsarestraightandcleanandnothingisdamaged.
Manifold:
Youwillseethemanifoldlocatedinbetweenthe2scrubbercanister’sonthebackoftheunit.During
assemblythemanifoldandLPhosesneedonlytobeinspectedpriortodiving.
IfyouarerequiredtochangeoneoftheLPhoses,thescrubbercanister’swillneedtoberemoved
fromtheunitsothattheareaisaccessible.Inordertomakeiteasiertoworkwiththesehosesaset
screwhasbeenplacedwhichlocksthemanifoldinplace.Youcanseethesetscrewonthefrontof
theplatewhenthewing/harnessisremoved.Seephoto.
Simplyloosenthesetscrewslightlyandthemanifoldcanbemoved.Becertaintoslidethemanifold
backtoitsoriginalposion,andtoghtenproperlywhenfinished.
TheLPhosessecuredtothemanifoldareasfollows:
Boom:ThisistheOff‐BoardAccessorywhichisconnectedtothesidemounteddiluent(bailout)cylinder.ThisLP
hoseis30inch.
Topofmanifold,backright:ADV,9inch

whereitwilllikelysit.TightentheFastexclamptosecurethecanisterinthisposion;itwillbe
properlyposionedaerthecrossbarissecured.

Firstwipeandcleanthesealingareaontheinsideofthelung.Thenapplyavery
lightamountoflubricanttothisarea.
Nextwipeandcleanthecounterlungaachmentwhichissecuredtothecrossbar.
Whileyouhaveinspectedthecrossbarintheaboveprocedure,youshouldinspect
theO‐ringsareasagainpriortoinstallaonofthelungs.ApplylubricanttotheO‐
ring’s.Whileapplyingthelubricant,doublecheck
thattheO‐ringsarenotdamagedorindented.Ifyoufeelanindentorother
damagewhileapplyingthelubricant,changetheO‐ringforanewone.

3. Pushthecounterlungontothecounterlungaachment;youwillneedtopushfirmly.
Asyoupushthelunginplace,youwillfeelacircularflangewhichisattheperimeter
ofthelungopening.Pushfirmlyonthisflange.Itisimportantthattheyarepushed
allthewayonandarestraight.Whenthisisdonecorrectly,theretainingringwilleas‐
ilyengagethethreadsonthelung.Ensurethatthelung’sarefacingthecorrectdirec‐
on;visualizethebaraachedtotheunit;thelungsshouldwraptowardstheout‐
side/frontoftheunit.Theaachmentring’sshouldspinfreelytosecurethelung’sin
place.Whenthering’saresecurethereshouldbean1/8inchgapinbetweenthering
andfaceofthecounterlung,andthegapshouldbeevenlyspaced.
4. Forthosediversusing2&4litercounterlung’s,thelargerlungshouldbeontherightside
andthesmallerlungontheleside.Donotapplyexcessforcewhenghteningthering.
Itisnotrequiredandtheringwillbreak.Usingatooltoghtenthisringusuallyresultsindamageor
breakagetothering.
5. Placethecrossbar&counterlungassemblyonthebackoftheunit,whereitwillsit,andfeedthecounter‐
lung’sthroughtheslotsonthewingassembly.Atthispointthecrossbarisnotyetsecuredtotheunit;
youareonlyposioningitandensuringthecounterlung’sareproperlyplacedandposioned.Following
thisprocedurewillensurethatnofabriciscaughtwhensecuringthelungstothecrossbar.Thiscould
happenifthecrossbarwasfirstsecuredtothecanister’sandthenthelungsaached.

1. Firstwipeandcleanthesealingareaontheboomofthescrubbercanisters.Thenlubricantthesealing
areawell.
2. NextwipeandcleantheO‐ringareasonthecrossbar.ThenlubricatetheO‐ringswell.Whileapplyingthe
lubricant,doublecheckthattheO‐ringsarenotdamagedorindented.Ifyoufeelanindentorotherdam‐
agewhileapplyingthelubricant,changetheO‐ringforanewone.
3. Insertthecrossbarintotheboomofthescrubbercanister’s.Thepropertechniqueistopushuponthe
crossbar,pushingitintotheboomofthecanisters,andwhiledoingthisinsertthecircclips.
4. Ifyousecuredthecylinderfirst,thenitiseasiertoaachthecrossbar.Theprocedureforthisisthataer
youinsertthecrossbarintotheboomofthecanister’s,youmaypushdownonthecanister’swhichwill
causethecrossbartopushagainstthecylinderenablingyoutoeasilyinsertthecircclips.Todothis,en‐
surethattheFastexclampsareloose.
5. Oncethecrossbarhasbeensecuredtothecanister’sandthelungsaresingcor‐
rectly,thecanistersmaymovedtotheirfinalposion.LoosentheFastexclamp’s,
iftheyarenotalready,andposionthecanister’sproperly.Ifthecylinderisnot
alreadyinplace,youmaywishtowait;Itwillbemucheasiertoproperlyplacethe
assembly.Re‐aachtheADVLPhosetothegasaddionhead.Thismaybefinger

Cylinder:

Thecylinderplacementareaisattheboomofthestainlesssteelstand.Itisdesignedtoworkwith
aSSFastexclamp.TheFastexclampissimilartoahoseclampbutismucheasiertouse.Thesizeof
theclampispre‐setatthewarehouse.Toopenandclosetheclamp,simplyusethelever.Ifforany
reasonyouneedtoadjustthesizeoftheclamp,useeitheranutdriverorscrewdrivertomakethe

Turnthecylindersothatthevalveopeningisfacingthediversback.Thisensuresthatthefirststagewill

Securethefirststagetothecylinder.
Opencylinderanddoublecheckthepressureonthepressuregauge.Closecylinder.
Doublecheckthatthescrubbercanister’sandcrossbarareproperlyposioned,andad‐
justasnecessary.Alsodoublecheckthatthecounterlung’saresllproperlysituated
andnotbuncheduportwistedinanyway.DoublecheckthattheADVLPhosehasbeen
securedtothegasaddionhead.
Wing&Harness:
Thefinalstepistosecurethewing&harnesssystem.DuetothedesignoftheKISSOSRibWrap
counterlung's,wehighlyrecommendtheuseoftheKISSOSwing&harnesssystem.Itisim‐
portantthatthewrappedcounterlung'sarecorrectlyposionedandnotconstrictedinanyway.
Firstnotewherethe2threadedrodsarelocatedonthefrontofthestand.Youwillsee
thatthereareseveralholesinwhichtherodmaybesecured.Ifthisisthefirstmeyou
aredivingtheKISSOSyoumayneedtosecurethewing&harnessandthentrytherigon
todetermineiftheunitneedstobemovedupordown.Ideallythetopoftheunit
shouldbejustatoraboveyourshoulders.
Ifyouneedtomovethethreadedrod,thismustbedonepriortoassemblingtheunitasboththecanisters
andcylindermustberemovedtodothis.YouloosentherodbyusinganAllenkey,accessedonthescrub‐
bersideoftheunit.Placetherod’swhereyouwishthemtobeandthenghtensecurely.
Slidethewing&harnessoverthethreadedrod,pullingthecounterlung’sandtheoffboardgasaccessory
whipthroughtheslotsandensuringtheyareproperlysituated.Youwillseethatthewingcanbeslidupor
down;placeitwhereitsuitsyouandthenplaceafenderwasherovertherodandfinallysecurewiththe
nut.Tightensecurely.Notethosethatareusingasobackplatewillneedtosecurethestabilizingplate
ontopoftheharness.Itisrequiredtomaketheharnessfitfirmlytotherebreather.
Oncethewing&harnesshavebeenaached,ensurethatthelungsareflatandsmooth,wheretheyslide
throughtheslot.Alsoensurethattheyarenottangledintheharness.Seephoto.
Ensurethatthethreadedrodisnotdamagedinanyway.Ifitis,thewingandharnessmaynotbesecure,

LoopHoseBallast&MouthpiecePlacement:
Whilethepurchaseoftheloophoseballastsystemisoponalwhenpurchasingyourrebreather,theyarerequiredto
divetheKISSOS.TheyareavailableforpurchasefromKISS.TheKISSsystemuses8SSrings;4perloophose.Our
ringsare.13lbseachwhichmakesatotalweightof1.04lbs.Ifyouchoosetosourceyourballastringsfromanother
company,becertainthatyouknowtheweightoftheirrings.Theyarenotallthesame,andmanyringsfromother
companiescanbeupto50%lessinweight,whichwouldrequireyoutopurchaseamanymorethenifusingtheKISS
ballast.
IfyouhavepurchasedyourballastringsfromKISS,theywillbeinstalledonyourhosespriorto
shipping.
Thetypethatweusecanbemovedupanddownthehosesunderwaterforproperplacement.
Withtheloophosesproperlyadjustedwithnotwists,andtheballastproperlyplaced,theBOV
willbeweightlessunderwater
Theballastringsshouldbeplacedfairlyclosetothemouthpiece.Aachthemouthpiecetothehoses,andthenliit
sothatitislevelwiththetopoftheunit.Lookattheloophoses;theyshouldhaveagentlecurve.Iftheyaretwisted,
adjustthembyturningtheendofthehosebythemouthpiece.Thesestepsareimportant.Ifthisisn’tdone,thenthe
mouthpiecewillbeuncomfortable.
Theballastringswillneedtobeadjustedagain,onceinthewater.Posioningwillbedifferentforeverydiver.While
inthepool,yourinstructorwilldemonstrateneutralmouthpiecebuoyancy.Ideallythemouthpiecewillfloatneutrally
infrontofthediversface,iftheringsareplacedproperlyandtheloophosesarenottwisted.Ifwhendoingthisskill,
themouthpieceisnotfloanginthedesiredarea,ensurethatyourhosesarenottwistedandadjustyourballastrings.
Toadjustthehosesunderwater,simplyholdthemouthpiecewithonehand,andgentlyturnthehosewiththeother.
Again,oncetheringsareproperlyplaced,theydonotneedadjusngagain.
Thesestepsareimportant.Ifthisisn’tdone,thenthemouthpiecewillbeuncomfortable.
Ifyoufeelthatthemouthpieceisexcessivelybuoyantevenwithproperlyplacedballastweightontheloophoses,you
maysecurealoopofbungeetoyourshoulderstrapsandslidetheloophosethroughthiswhensecuringtoyourtow‐
ers.Thebungeeloopwillassistinholdingtheloophosesinplace.AstheBOVhasanexcellentworkofbreathing,it
alsohasalargeairspacewhichmakesthemouthpiecemorebuoyantthenothermodels.

DETERMININGTHECORRECTCOUNTERLUNGSIZE:
Todetermineifthecounterlung'sareasuitablesize,youmustfirstputtheunitonandsecurethelungs.Theamount
ofgasthatthelungsholdcanbeadjustedbysimplyghteningorlooseningthelungwaiststrap.Ifwhendoingthetest
below,thelungsaretoosmall,loosenthestrapandtryagain.Iftheyaretoolarge,thenyoucanghtendownthe
straptoadjust.
First,putthemouthpieceintoyourmouth,opentheloopandinhalethegasintoyourlungsandthenoutofyournose
unltheloopiscompletelyempty.Whentheloopisempty,closetheBOVwithoutallowinganyairtoenter.Then,
takealargebreath,asmuchasyoucanhold,puttheBOVintoyourmouth,opentheloopandexhaleallyouraircom‐
pletelyintotheloopandthenclosetheBOV.

Ideally,thelungsizeshouldbeasevenlymatchedtoyourownlungsaspossible.Ifyoufindthatwhendoingthistest
youcangetmorethanonefullbreathintotheloopbeforeitisfull,thencinchdownthestraps.Neverusecounter‐
lung'swherethevolumeissmallerthanyourown!Verysmallpeoplemayrequirea2&4litertoensureproperplace‐
ment,whilemostpeoplewilluse4&4literlungs.Thosewithverylargelungvolumesmayrequire4&6literlungs.
Inmatchingyourdalvolumetothecounterlungvolume,youwillfindthatyourbuoyancyinshallowwatercanbeex‐
ceponal.OnlyKISSdiverscanholdtheirposioninwaterthatisonly3to4feetdeep.Ifyouarefindingbuoyancy
difficultinwaterthisshallow,thisisduetoeitherbeingnewontherebreatherorthecounterlung’saretoolarge.
Whiledoingthistestatthesurface,rememberthatunderwateryourrequiredvolumewon’tchange.Ifyoufindthat
yoursurfacetestwentwell,butitfeelslikethelungsaretoosmallunderwater,youprobablyhavetoomuchgasinthe
loop.Tocorrectthis,exhalesomeofthegasoutofyournose.Or,youfailedensurethatthelungsweren’ttwisted
whenthreadedthroughthewing,thenthiswillcauseeitheradecreaseinlungvolume&/orwillincreasetheworkof
breathing.Seetheworkofbreathingpagesformoreinformaon.
*NOTE:Thecloseryoucanmatchthecounterlungvolumewithyourown,thebeeryour
buoyancywillbe.DivingtheKISSOSwithcounterlungwiththestrapsFULLYopenwillre‐

AUTOMATICDILUENTVALVE(ADV):
TheADVislocatedonthetopofthegasaddionscrubberhead.TheADVwilladddiluentgasto
yourbreathingloopaertheloopvolumehasbeenreducedbyeitherdescendingor“breathing
down”thevolumeofoxygen.Thediverwillgetthefeelingthatthereisnomoreairintheloopto
breath.AllthediverneedstodoissuckhardtotriggertheADVanditwillfeedhimmoregas.This
ishowasecondstageregulatorworks.
TheADVhasbeensetup“ght”enoughthatitdoesn’tadddiluentwithoutthediverbeingaware.Butitaddsenough
gassothatareasonabledescentratecanbemaintained.Asyoucansee,thereisanadjustmentknobontheADVreg‐
ulator.Itisveryimportantthatthisknobisalwaysght,andturnedallthewayin.TheADVontheKISSOShasbeen
designedtobeeasiertoacvatethenpastADVdesigns.Assuch,diver’smustbeawareofbodyposionatallmes
andunderstandthatahead‐downposionwillcausetheADVtoacvatemorerapidlythenusual.Ifthediverisinthis
posion,thenhemustbepreparedtoventtheloopandchangetoahorizontalposion.Thiswillaidinprevennga
buoyancyissue,whichismaycauseanunwantedascent.

culesofbeingvercalinthewater).

Diluentcanalsobeaddedtothebreathingloopviathemouthpiece.Simplygotoopencircuitmode,takeabreathand
thenopentheloopagainandexhalethegasintothebreathingloop.
Anotherwaytoaddgastotheloopviathemouthpieceistoclosethelooponlya1/4inch,forasecond.Youmayneed
tolightlypushthepurgebuononthefrontofthe2ndstage.Asmallamountofgaswillblowdirectlyintothebreath‐
ingloop.
QuickDisconnects:
TheKISSOSisshippedwithaquickconnectsystemfortheloophoses.
Youwillseethatthetowersonthescrubberheadshavealipinwhichthe
quickdisconnecthosestubsaresecured.Theunitisshippedstandard
with2hosestubswhichwillbefiedtoyourloophoseswithhose
clamps,priortoshipping.
IfyouchoosetoorderyourunitwiththeBOV,then4hosestubswillbe
includedwithyourkit.Theseextra2hosestubs/hoseclampsareforse‐
curingtheloophosestotheBOVwhichalsousesourquickdisconnect
system.

Firstsoaktheendsoftheloophosesinhottapwater,forseveralminutes.Thiswillsoentherubberon
thehosesmakingiteasiertoinstallthehosestubs.Somedivesmayfindthattheyneedtosoakthe
hoseendsinwaterthathasbeenboiled.Thiswillcertainlymakeiteasier.
Shakethewaterfromthehose,andthenapplysiliconegreasetotheinsideoftheloophose.Itisbest
touseathickerlubricantforthis,ratherthenathinoxygentypelubricant.Applylubricanttotheoutsideof
thehosestub.
Workingquicklysothehoseremainsso,pushthehosestubontotheloophose.Pushitonasfarasit
willgo,butleaveafewmillimetersofspacesoitdoesn’ttouchthesideofthestubandrestrictthe
movementofthering.
Securethehosestubusingahoseclamp;ensurethatthehoseclampisproperlyghtened.
EnsurethattheO‐ringareaonthehosestubsarecleanandthenapplylubricant.
Pushthehosestubontothetower/BOV,lininguptheliponthetower/BOVwiththespaceonthehose
stub.
Turntheringtosecure.
InspecttheareatoensurethatalltheO‐ringsareproperlyseatedandnotpinched.
Toremovethehosestub,pushinonthestub,andthenturnthering.Thisisasimilarmethodto
openingandclosingachildproofmedicinebole.

AnalternatedmethodofplacingyourMAVistohaveitcomearoundtherightsideofyourwaist,andthensecurethe
MAVtoaringonyourwaiststrapusingbungeeandaclip.ThedivermustbecertainthattheMAVisproperlysecured
andiseasilyaccessibleduringanypartofthedive.Thismethodisforthosewhodonotwishthehosestocomeover
theshoulder.
ForthosethatwishtoruntheMAVaroundthewaist,simplyswaptheposionofthe2oxygenhoses.Todothis,first
removetheshortestLPhosefromtheMAVandfilter.LeavethefiltersecuredtotheMAV.Itisveryimportantthat
onewrenchisplacedonthenutclosesttotheplaschousingtoholditinplace;itmustnotmove!Thenputanother

hosefromthehead.
RemovethelongerLPhosefromtheMAV,followingtheaboveinstrucons.Thenremoveitfromthefirststage.
SwaptheposionoftheLPhoses;thelongeroneshouldnowbesecuredtothescrubberhead(turntheelbowsoitis
facingdown),andtheshorterLPhoseshouldbesecuredtothefirststage.
TheshorterLPhosefromthefirststageshouldnowbeaachedtothefilterontheMAV.Becertaintosecureittothis
port,asitisimportantthattheincominggasisfiltered.TheLongerLPhosefromthescrubberheadshouldnowbe
aachedtotheotherportontheMAV,(nofilterport).Followthesameinstruconsasabovetoproperlyghtenthe
hoses.Awrenchmustbeplacedonthenutclosesttotheplaschousingtoholditsecurewhileyoughtenthehose
fing.PleaseseetheMAVtroubleshoongandserviceseconforphotosandmoreinstrucons.Ifindoubt,please

DiluentCylinderandtheOff‐BoardGasAccessory:
ThediluentcylinderontheKISSOSissidemountedanddoublesasthediver’sbailoutgas.Inthisconfigurationthe
diluentcylinderisreferredtoasoffboarddiluentgasasthecylinderisnotsecuredtothemainrebreather.Thead‐
vantagesofthisarethatdiver’smaycustomizethesystemtosuittheirdivingneeds.Italsokeepsthemainrebreather
small,light,flexible,andeasytotravelwith.
KISSrecommendsthataminimumof40cuftshouldbeusedasthediluent/bailoutcylinderwhendivingrecreationally.
Diver’smustbecertainthatthecylindertheychoosehastheproperamountofgasfordiluent,wing&drysuitinflation,
