Accidentalstarting.

Disconnectbattery cablesbeforeworking on
generatorset(disconnectnegativelead firstand
reconnectitlast).
WARNING
Disabling generatorset.Accidentalstarting can
cause severeinjuryordeath.Turn generatorset
masterswitchtoOFF position,disconnectpowerto
battery charger,and remove battery cables(remove
negativelead firstand reconnectitlast)to disable
generatorsetbeforeworking on the generatorsetor
connectedequipment. Thegeneratorsetcanbestarted
byan automatictransferswitch or remotestart/stop
switch unless these precautionsarefollowed.

Use protective gogglesand clothes.Batteryacidcan
cause permanentdamage toeyes,burnskin,andeat
holesinclothing.

battery chargercause arcs orsparks.
Locate batteryin a well-ventilated area. Isolate
battery chargerfromexplosivefumes.
Battery acid.Sulfuric acidin batteries cancause
severeinjuryordeath.Sulfuricacidin battery can
cause permanentdamage to eyes,burnskin,and eat
holesinclothing.Always wearsplash-proofsafety
goggleswhenworkingnearthebattery. Ifbatteryacidis
splashed inthe eyesoron skin,immediatelyflushthe
affected area for15 minuteswithlarge quantitiesof
cleanwater.Seekimmediatemedicalaidinthe caseof
eyecontact. Neveradd acidto a batteryafterplacing
the batteryinservice,asthismayresultin hazardous
spattering ofbatteryacid.
Batterygases.Explosion cancause severeinjury
ordeath.Batterygases can cause an explosion.Do
notsmoke orpermit flame orsparkto occurneara
batteryatanytime,particularlywhen itis charging.
Avoidtouching terminalswithtools,etc., to prevent
burnsand sparks thatcouldcause an explosion.
Removewristwatch,rings,andanyotherjewelrybefore
handling battery.Neverconnectnegative(--) battery
cableto positive(+) connection terminalofstarter
solenoid.Do not testbattery condition by shorting
terminalstogether.Sparkscouldignitebatterygasesor
fuelvapors.Ventilate any compartmentcontaining
batteriesto preventaccumulation ofexplosive gases.
To avoidsparks,do notdisturb battery charger
connectionswhilebatteryisbeingcharged.Alwaysturn
battery chargeroff before disconnecting battery
connections.Removenegativeleadfirstandreconnect
itlastwhen disconnecting battery.

Servicing fuelsystem.Aflashfire cancause
severeinjuryordeath.Donotsmokeorpermitflame
orsparktooccurnearcarburetor,fuelline,fuelfilter,fuel
pump,orotherpotentialsourcesofspilled fuelorfuel
vapors.Catch all fuel in a suitablecontainerwhen
removing fuel line orcarburetor.
Servicing aircleaner.Asudden backfire cancause
severeinjuryordeath.Donotoperatewithaircleaner
removed.

Carbon monoxide.
Cancause severenausea,fainting,ordeath.
The exhaustsystem mustbe leakproofand
routinelyinspected.
Generatorsetoperation.Carbon monoxide can
cause severenausea,fainting,ordeath.Never
operatethe generatorsetinside a building unless the
exhaustgasispiped safelyoutside.Neveroperatein
anyarea where exhaustgas could accumulate and
seep back inside a potentiallyoccupied building.Avoid
breathing exhaust fumeswhen working on ornearthe
generatorset. Carbon monoxide isparticularly
dangerousbecauseitisan odorless,colorless,
tasteless,nonirritating gas.Be awarethatitcan cause
deathifinhaled forevenashort time.
Carbon monoxide symptoms.Carbon monoxide
cancauseseverenausea,fainting,ordeath.Carbon
monoxide isa poisonousgaswhichispresentin
exhaustgases.Carbonmonoxidepoisoningsymptoms
include butare notlimited tothe following:
DLight-headedness,dizziness
DPhysicalfatigue,weakness injointsand muscles
DSleepiness,mentalfatigue,inabilitytoconcentrate
orspeak clearly,blurred vision
DStomachache,vomiting,nausea
If experiencing anyof thesesymptomsand carbon
monoxide poisoning ispossible,affected persons
shouldseekfresh airimmediately.They shouldremain
active.Theyshouldnotsit,liedown,orfallasleep.Alert
otherstothe possibilityofcarbon monoxide poisoning.
If the condition ofaffected personsdoesnotimprove
withinminutesofbreathing fresh air, they shouldseek
medicalattention.

FuelSystem
Explosive fuelvapors.

Useextremecarewhenhandling,storing,
and using fuels.
WARNING
Fuelsystem.Explosive fuelvapors cancause
severeinjuryordeath.Allfuelsarehighlyexplosivein
avaporstate.Use extremecarewhen handling and
storing fuels.Storefuel in a well-ventilated area away
fromspark-producingequipmentandoutofthereachof
children.Neveradd fueltothe tankwhilethe engine is
running sincespilled fuelmayigniteoncontactwith hot
partsorfromignition spark.Do notsmoke orpermit
flame orsparkto occurnearsourcesofspilled fuelor
fuelvapors.Keepfuellinesandconnectionstightandin
good condition.Do notreplaceflexiblefuel lineswith
rigidlines.Useflexiblesectionsto avoid breakage
causedbyvibration.Donotoperategeneratorsetinthe
presence of fuel leaks, fuelaccumulation,orsparks.
Repairsystemsbeforeresuming generatorset
operation
Explosive fuelvapors cancause severeinjuryor
death.Take additionalprecautionswhen using the
following fuels:
Gasoline—Store gasoline onlyin approved red
containers clearlymarked GASOLINE.
Propane(LP)—Adequateventilation ismandatory.
Propane isheavierthan air;install propane gas
detectorslow inroom. Inspectdetectorsoften.
Natural Gas—Adequateventilation ismandatory.
Naturalgasrises;install naturalgasdetectorshigh in
room. Inspectdetectorsoften.
Fueltanks.Explosivefuelvaporscancausesevere
injuryordeath.Gasoline and othervolatilefuels
stored in daytanks orsubbasefueltanks can cause an
explosion.Store onlydieselfuel intanks.
Draining fuelsystem.Explosive fuelvapors can
cause severeinjuryordeath.Spilled fuelcan cause
an explosion.Useacontainertocatchfuel when
draining fuelsystem.Wipe up all spilled fuelafter
draining system.
LPgas fuel leaks.Explosive fuelvapors cancause
severeinjuryordeath.Fuel leakage can cause an
explosion.Check LPvaporgasornaturalgasfuel
systemforleakageusingasoap-watersolutionwithfuel
systemtestpressurized to 6-8 ouncespersquareinch
(10-14 incheswatercolumn).Do notusesoap
containing ammonia orchlorine intestsolutions,since
the soap will notbubble and will notallowan accurate
leakage test.
LPliquidwithdrawalfuel leaks.Explosive fuel
vapors cancause severeinjuryordeath.Fuel
leakage can cause an explosion.Check LPliquid
withdrawalgasfuelsystemforleakage using a
soap-watersolution withfuelsystemtestpressurized
notless than 90 psi(621 kPa).Do notusesoap
containing ammonia orchlorine intestsolutions,since
the soap will notbubble and will notallowan accurate
leakage test.

Connectbattery chargerenclosureto ground ofa

The overvoltage circuitimmediately shutsdownthe
engine when triggered byaDC signalfroman
overvoltage shutdown option.The generatorset
automaticallyshutsdownifoutputvoltageis15%above

Run Relay Kit
The run relay kitisenergized onlywhen the generator
setisrunning.The three setsofcontactsinthe kitare
typicallyused tocontrolairintake and/or radiator
louvers.However,alarmsand othersignalling devices
can alsobeconnected tothe contacts.Refertothe
accessorywiring diagramforcorrectconnection of the
run relay kit. See Figure 1-2.
