SMOKE EXTRACTOR SAFEK
INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLATION, USE AND MAINTENANCE
Commissioning and operation
Make sure that the smoke extractor has been instal-
led according to the instructions, and that there are
no foreign objects loose inside. Also check that the
electrical connection has been made according to the
instructions enclosed with the extractor. Then start
the extractor and make sure that the impeller rotates
in the direction indicated by the arrow marked on the
extractor.
Electrical connection
The safety switch of the smoke extractor is installed
on the side of the stack. The switch and the ex-
tractor must be connected by means of a rubber
cable that complies with the same requirements
as the extractor concerning the burning times.
The SAFEP mounting stack features a channel for
the cable.
NB!
3-phase connection with frequency changer control: Frequency can be changed only
from 50 Hz downward.
The SAFEK smoke extractor is
designed for heat and smoke
venting in case of re.
SAFEK complies with the
requirements of the Machinery
Directive and it is marked with
the CE mark. VTT has tested the
functionality and it meets the
requirements of class F400 120 in
standard EN 121015-3, appendix C.

Maintenance
The smoke extractor must be inspected and cleaned one
or two times a year. Before maintenance, use the service
switch to make sure that the extractor cannot be started
during the work. Have the extractor serviced at the begin-
ning and at the end of the heating season (in autumn and
in spring). The extractor can be cleaned by the plant’s own
service personnel, but services and repairs on the impeller
and the motor require special expertise.
Impeller
The impeller can be cleaned from below for example with
a brush. To clean the impeller, lift the extractor up on the
hinges and set steadily with the hold-open hook. Make sure
to clean every blade to prevent the impeller from getting
unbalanced. The motor is lubricated for life and requires
no extra lubrication. In case of a bearing failure, replace
the bearings or the whole motor. Motors are available as
spare parts.

Checking list in case of malfunction
Switch off the smoke extractor before checking, detach the cover plate (4 screws) and lift the upper part of
the casing off! The extractor can be turned aside on a hold-open hook, if it is necessary to check the pipe or
the impeller.
1. The smoke extractor vibrates: Check
- that there are no ice or impurities in the impeller causing unbalance.
- that there is no obstacle in the duct or on the unit that restricts the air current.
- that the dampers of the pipe are operating properly.
- that the fastening screw of the impeller is in place and tightened.
- that the blades of the impeller are undamaged.
- that there are no loose balancing pieces.
2. The smoke extractor operates but the rates do not correspond those given in the data sheet: Check
- that the impeller rotates in the right direction (arrow in the motor clip plate).
(The rotation direction can be changed by transforming the coupling, for further information please contact
Koja Ltd.)
- that the valves are open.
- that all air terminal devices have been installed.
- that the dampers are open.
- that the pressure loss of the ductwork is not bigger than estimated.
- that the extractor operates by all phases.
- that the frequency converter operates.
- that the voltage of the frequency converter corresponds that of the motor (400V)
- that there is no fault in the frequency converter by ignoring the converter with another coupling.
3. The extractor do not start: Check
- that the fuses and thermal relays are undamaged and right dimensioned.
- that the coupling is right (see the instructions in the side of unit).
- that there is a voltage in the extractor.
- that the impeller rotates freely. (Ice or some mechanical object may restrain the rotation.)
- that the adjuster is actuating.
4. There is a strange noise in the extractor: Check
- that the impeller rotates freely. (Ice or some mechanical object may restrain the rotation.)
If the roof extractor does not operate properly in spite of these acts, write down
the unit code: e.g. T41400348WL
the order number: e.g. 901371 / 1001 / 10
