correctionsandcommunicationoperatingparameters.Themanualalsoprovides
guidelinesforconnectingthe3710DGNSSReceivertoexternaldevices,information
aboutNMEAmessagessupportedbythe3710DGNSSReceiverandpin-outdiagrams
fordatacableconnections.

giventermsandconditionsstatedinthesalesdocuments.Consequentialdamagessuch
ascustomer'slossofprotordamagetoothersystemstraceablebacktothissystem's
malfunctions,areexcluded.Thewarrantydoesnotcovermalfunctionsofthesystem
resultingfromthefollowingconditions:
•Over-voltageorincorrectpowerconnection.
•ShortingofGNSSantennacableduringoperationofthesystems.
1.3.2Restrictionsinuse
Thereceiverfunctionisbasedonsatellitesignalsandrequiresfreesighttotheskyand
otherwisenormalconditionstooperate.
1.4Disposal
Allelectricalandelectroniccomponentshavetobedisposed
ofseparatelyfromthemunicipalwastestreamviadesignated
collectionfacilitiesappointedbythegovernmentorlocal
authorities.Thecorrectdisposalandseparatecollection
ofyouroldappliancewillhelppreventpotentialnegative
consequencesfortheenvironmentandhumanhealth.Itis
apreconditionforreuseandrecyclingofusedelectricaland
electronicequipment.Formoredetailedinformationabout
disposalofyouroldappliance,pleasecontactyourlocal
authoritiesorwastedisposalservice.
TheequipmentmaybereturnedtoKongsbergSeatexASif
thereisnolocalWEEEcollection.Theequipmentismarkedwiththispictogram.
1.5Equipmenthandling
Observethefollowingwhenhandlingtheequipment:
•Allunitsmustbehandledwithcare.
•Thecasecontainingtheunitmustbekeptdryatalltimesandmustbesheltered
fromtheweather.
•Itmustnotbesubjectedtoshocks,excessivevibrationorotherroughhandling.
•Theequipmentmustbepreservedandstoredinsuchawaythatitdoesnotconstitute
anydangertohealth,environmentorpersonalinjury.
•Theunitmust,wheneverpossible,bestoredandtransportedinitsoriginal
transportationbox.
•Thetransportationboxmustnotbeusedforanypurposeforwhichitwasnotintended.

Thischapterdescribesthe3710DGNSSReceiver,andgivesanoverviewofDGNSS
operation.
2.1Purposeandapplications
The3710DGNSSReceiverisahigh-performanceDGNSSreceiverandacomponent
oftheFugroworldwideDGNSSService.
TheFugroserviceisafull-timedifferentialGNSS(DGNSS)broadcastsystemdelivering
correctionsfromanarrayofGPSandGLONASSreferencestationslocatedaroundthe
globe.ReferencestationsprovideindustrystandardformattedcorrectionstoNetwork
ControlCentres(NCCs)atstrategicgeographiclocations,wherethecorrectionsare
decoded,checked,andrepackagedinahighlyefcientbroadcastformat.Thereare
twodifferentpossibilitiesfromwhichtoobtainthesedata:fromsatellitesorfromthe
internet.Ifreceivingdatafromasatellite,thedataismodulatedontoanRFcarrierwhich
isthenup-convertedfortransmissiontoanL-bandcommunicationssatellite.When
receivingdatafrominternet,theNTRIP(NetworkedTransportofRTCMviaInternet
Protocol)isused.
The3710DGNSSReceiveroffersreceptionfrombothinternetandsatellites
simultaneously.Ithastheuniquecapabilityofsimultaneouslyreceivingandoutputting
datafromuptothreesources(twosatellitelinksandoneinternetlink).
ThesignalsarereceivedviatheDGNSSantenna,orbyinternet.Afterselectionofthe
desiredbroadcastsource,thesignalsaremadeavailableascorrectionsforuseinaGPS
andGLONASSdifferentialcapablereceiver.
The3710DGNSSreceiversupportsthefollowingSeaSTARservices:

SeaSTARHPisadecimetrelevelphase-basedservice.ItisderivedfromtheGPSL1
andL2frequenciesforcentimetres.TheserviceusesGPSphasemeasurementstoobtain
anaccuracyof10cmhorizontally(95%)and15cmvertically(95%).Availablein
Europe,America,theMiddleEastandAsia.
SeaSTARG2usestheGPSL1andL2frequenciesinbothGPSandGLONASSto
compensateforionosphericdelay.Theorbit/clockconceptutilizesreferencestations
withaworldwidespreadtocalculatetheorbitandtheclockvalueofeachGPSand
GLONASSsatellitemoreaccuratelythanthebroadcastephemeris.Orbitandclock
correctionstothebroadcastephemerisarethentransmittedtotheuser.Thesecorrections
arevalidworldwideandthedistancefromthenearestreferencestationstotheuserdoes
notaffectperformance.
SeaSTARXPisadecimetrelevelphase-basedservice.Itusesworldwidevalid
orbit/clockdatathatisbasedonGPSL1andL2frequencies.Thisconceptusesreference
stationswithaworldwidespreadtocalculatetheorbitandtheclockvalueofeachGPS
satellitemoreaccuratelythanthebroadcastGPSephemeris.Orbitandclockcorrections
usedtobroadcastephemeris,arethentransmittedtotheuser.Thesecorrectionsare
validworldwideandthedistancefromthenearestreferencestationstotheuserdoes
notaffectperformance.
SeaSTARDGNSSisametrelevelcode-basedservice.ItisbasedonGPSL1and
GLONASSL1frequencies.ThisissimilartoDGPS.SinceGLONASSisnotfully
operational,DGLONASShastobeusedtogetherwithDGPStoincreasethenumberof
availablesatellitesinthenavigationsolution.AvailableinSouthAmerica,WestAfrica,
Europe,theMiddleEastanduponrequestinotherareas.
The3710DGNSSReceiverhasabuilt-indisplayforeasysystemcongurationand
statusmonitoring.

The3710DGNSSReceivercomprisesasoftwaredenedradio(SDR)signalprocessing
corewithadvancedalgorithmsandtrueparallelprocessingofuptotwoDGNSSsatellite
signalsandoneDGNSSEthernetsignal(NTRIPformat).DGNSScorrectionsfrom
differentsourcesarecombinedbytheuniquemultiplexingcapability.The3710DGNSS
ReceiversupportsSeaSTARcorrections.TheSeaSTARserviceprovidesconsistent
sub-metrelevelaccuracypositioningwithglobalvalidity.
2.3.1TraditionalDGNSS(RTCM)
TheDGNSSsystemimprovesthepositionaccuracybyusingthedifferentialtechnique.
ThisisaccomplishedbyaccuratelysurveyedGNSSreferencestationswhichcalculate
pseudo-rangecorrectionsforallthesatellitestrackedbythereferencestation'sGNSS
receiver.
TheDGNSSsystemalsousesacommunicationlinkfortransmissionofcorrectiondata
fromtheReferenceStationtothevessel.
EachGNSSreferencestationcomparesthemeasureddistancetoasatellitewiththeone
calculatedbasedonthesatellites'andthereferencestation'sknownco-ordinates.The
resultantrangedifferenceisthecorrectiondata,whicharebroadcastfromtheGNSS
referencestationstotheDifferentialGNSScorrectionreceiver(s)onboardthevessel(s).
Thecorrectiondatacanalsobebroadcastviasatellite,e.g.anInmarsatsatellite.
Atthevessel,thesepseudo-rangecorrectionsareappliedtocorrectthepseudo-ranges
receivedbythevessel'sGNSSreceiver,priortousingthemforthecalculationofa
three-dimensionalnavigationsolution.TheconceptofadifferentialGNSS(DGNSS)
real-timesystemisillustratedinthegure.
