Placethe Audio+ VideoStandardsurround
preamp/processoron a firm level surface
awayfromdirt or moisture.Aminimumspac-
ing of three inchesmustexist betweenthe
Audio + Video Standard and surrounding
componentsto ensureproperventilation.
AC POWER GUIDELINES
WARNING
Do not removeor bypassthe ground pin
on the endof the ACcord. This maycause
RFI (radio frequency interference) to
inducedinto your playbacksystem.
TheAudio+ VideoStandardhassuperbreg-
ulation anddoesnot require a dedicatedAC
circuit. Avoidconnectionsthroughextension
cordsor multiple ACadapters.Highquality,
15 ampere,groundedACstrips are accept-
able.Highquality ACline conditionersor fil-
ters maybe usedif they are grounded.

After selecting a sourcefor recording(B1,
$1-$5), press the tape button to toggle
betweenthe taperecorderoutput(LEDillu-
minated)andtheinput source(LEDnot illu-
minated).
2 AnalogIn
TheAnalogIn button activates the analog
input andcycles .through the six analog
audioinputs. B1is a balancedinput via XLR
connectors.$1-$5are single-endedinputs
via RCAconnectors.
3 Digital In
TheDigital In button activates the digital
inputandcyclesthroughthesix digital audio
inputs (C1, C2,T1, T2, XLR,andRF). The
maindisplay will showRFIN whenthe RF
inputfor DolbyDigital (AC-3)is selected.
C1andC2are coaxial inputs via RCA
connectors.
T1andT2areTosLink
TM inputs.
XLRis an AES/EBUconnection.
RFis available via RCAor BNCconnec-

4 Main Display ,
Themaindisplay provides status.messages
for a variety of Audio+ VideoStandardoper-
ations.
5 Composite
Thecompositevideo input button cycles
throughthe four compositevideoinputs.
6 S-Video
TheS-videoinput buttoncycles throughthe
fourS-videoinputs.
7 VolumeControl Knob
Thevolumecontrol knobadjusts the output
level for theentiresystemaswell asindivid-
ual levelsfor thecenterspeaker,sidespeak-
ers, rear speakers,andsubwoofers.Thevol-
umecontrol knobnormallyadjusts the mas-
. ter volumeasindicatedbytheLEDilluminat-
ed above the master button (19). The
changein volumeis indicated in the main
display andalso on-screen.Adjustmentsto
the center speaker, side speakers, rear
speakers, and subwoofers are madeby
pressingthe correspondingindividual chan-
nel volumebuttons(20) androtating the vol-
umecontrol knobto the desiredsetting. The
master volume control has a numerical
rangefrom0 to 152with 89beingthe Dolby
reference. Thecenter speaker,side speak-
ers, rear speakers,andsubwoofervolume
trim havearangeof __.12dB.
8 PowerButton
Thepowerbuttontoggles the Audio+ Video
Standardfrom standbyto operateandalso
switchesthe 12 VDCoutput betweenon and
off.
9 Power LED
ThepowerLEDilluminates whenthe. rear
panelmainpowerswitch [see Figure2 (38)
on page11] is placed in the on position.
Duringremotecontrol operation, the power
LEDwill flash, indicating the Audio+ Video
Standardis receiving remotecontrol com-
mands.

occurs while changinglaser, DVDor com-

Muteprotectsyoursyste,mbypreventingthe
Audio+ Video~Standardfromplaying back
digital datain anincorrectformat.If theAudio
+ VideoStandardis going to beusedas a
digital to analogconverterfor musicplay-
back, this muting may seem awkward
becausethe beginningof eachtrack maybe
affected. Youcanchangethe format auto-
sensingto eliminatethis muting,if youwish.
Todoso, switchtheunit into standby.Press
the DTSbutton (13) onthe front paneland
switch the Audio+VideoStandard out of
standbyto poweron(operate).Thiswill dis-
able the automaticmutingfeature of the
Audio+VideoStandardandwill alter the way
in whichthe automaticformatsensingoper-
ates.Forbestresults,selectDTSprior to lis-
tening to anyDTSencodedmaterial andbe
careful to select the properformatfor each
pieceof softWareplayedthroughthe. digital
inputs.
Tore-engagethe automaticmutingfeature,
switch the Audio+VideoStandardinto stand-
byandtogglethe mainpowerswitch(38)
therear panelto theoff position. When.you
restart your Audio+ VideoStandard,the
automaticmutingfeature will beactive. Be
sureto turn all amplifiersoff whenswitching
the mainpowerswitchonandoff.
10 DolbyDigital engagesDolbyDigital
(AC-3) processing for use with Dolby
Digital (AC-3)encodedsourcematerial.
TheAudio + VideoStandardautomati-
cally switchesto DolbyDigital (AC-3)pro-
cessinguponreceiving a DolbyDigital
(AC-3)encodedsignal. Nouserinterven-
tion is requiredafter theappropriatedigi-
tal input is selectedandconnected.
Dolby Pro Logic engagesDolby Pro
Logiccircuitry for usewith all Dolbysur-
roundprocessingencodedmaterial. This
includeslaser discs, videotapes,televi-
sion broadcasts,andcompactdiscs.

DolbyProLogicLED(12) is not lit when
the Audio+Video Standardis in the
Dolby Digital (AC-3) decodingmode.
Whenboth the DolbyDigital LEDandthe

Video Standard is decoding a Dolby
Digital (AC-3)encodedDolbyProLogic
signal.

The infrared sensor receives commands
from the Audio + Video Standard remote
control. Forproperremotecontroloperation,
makesurethe infrared sensoris clear of any
obstructions.

Whenthe LEDabovethis button is illu-
minated, the volumecontrol knob(7)

tons is illuminated, the volumecontrol
knob(7) changesthelevel of the select-
ed channel. Thesenewchangeswill

WARNING

amplifieris off andthepreamplifieris in the
mute or stand-by mode. Makesure all
cableterminationsare of the highestqual-
ity, free fromfrayedends,shorts, or cold
solderjoints.
For analogaudio sources, connectthe
left andright outputsof yoursourcecom-
ponentsto the inputs on ,the Audio+
Video Standard. The Addio + Video
Standardis equippedwith six single-
endedanalogaudio inputs ($1-$5 and
tape) via RCAconnectorsandonebal-
ancedanalog audio input (B1) via
XLRconnector.
2. For digital audiosources,connectthe
digital audiooutputof yoursourcecom-
ponentsto thedigital inputsontheAudio+
Video Standard. The Audio + Video
Standardis equippedwith five digital
inputs: twocoaxial inputs via RCAcon-
nectors, twoTosLink
TM optical connec-
tions, and one AES/EBUvia an XLR
connector.ForDolbyDigital (AC-3)sur-
roundprocessing,connectthe RFoutput
of a laser disc player to oneof the RF
inputs.
Note
Forsourceunits that areequippedwith both
digital andanalogaudiooutputs,higherper-
formancewill generallyresult whenconnect-
ing sourceunits to theAudio+ VideoStandard
usingadigital audiooutput.
Connectthe videooutputsof yourvideo
sourcesto the videoinputs onthe Audio
+ VideoStandard.
TheAudio + Video Standard is equipped
with four S-videoinputs andfour composite
video inputs. S-videocablestransmit the
color and luminance componentsof the
videosignal separately.Thisseparationis
performedby the combfilter within the
sourceunit. If thesourceunit’s combfilter is
superiorto theonewithin thevideomonitor,
S-video connections should be used.
Otherwise, a compositevideo connection
shouldbeused.
Notes
S-video cables should not be used for
lengths greater than 20 feet, for optimum
performance.
TheAudio+ VideoStandarddoesnot con-
vert videosignal formats, Le., anS-video
input signal is outputasan S-videosignal
Thesamecondition holds true for a com-
posite videosignal
TheAudio + Video Standard is equipped
with three S-videooutputs andthree com-
posite videooutputs. ThemainS-videoout-
put (28) andcompositevideo output (35)
include on-screengraphics. Thecomposite
video1 output also hasa parallel BNCcon-
nector. For dubbingpurposes,the second
andthird video outputs do not include on-
screengraphics. Theseoutputsmaybe con-
nectedto the video inputs of your video
recordersor to:additionalvideomonitors.

TheAudio + Video Standardhas balanced
outputs via XLRconnectors and single-
endedoutputs ~,, RCAconnectors. Both
outputs are act~e at all times, allowing
simultaneousconnectionto separateampli-
fiers. Only one of these output formats
shouldbeconnectedto a single amplifier.
Note
Whenconnectinginputs or outputs to the
Audio+ VideoStandard,rememberthat the
balancedconnectionswill have6 dBmore
gain than the single-endedconnections.If
level matchingbecomesdifficult in your
installation, keepthis spe~’ficationin mind.
5. Plugthe ACcord into the receptacleon
the backof the Audio+ VideoStandard.
Plugthe remainingendinto the ACwall
receptacle. Toggle the main power
switch (38) to the upposition. Thered
powerLED(9) will illuminate, andthe
maindisplay(4) will showAC-3for three
seconds.TheAudio+ VideoStandardis
nowreadyfor operation.
Presseither thefront panelpowerbutton
(8) or the remotecontrol powerbutton
[seeFigure3 (44) onpage15]. Theword
WAITwill appearin the maindisplay and
the initializing messagewill appearon-
screen. Toconfigure the Audio+ Video
Standard for operation, see System
Configurationon page18.
