Thank You.
By buying CAN‑D, you have joined the ranks of the thousands of
professional engineers, installers and musicians who choose LA
Audio. We hope your CAN‑D brings you many years of enjoyable
time alignment and amplification!
This manual should get you up to speed with CAN‑D’s capabilities,
controls and specifications. It also details safety precautions that
must be taken for the safe use of this equipment. Please take the
time to read this information carefully and store this manual for
future reference.
SAFETY.
!THIS EQUIPMENT MUST BE EARTHED.
DO NOT EXPOSE TO RAIN OR MOISTURE.
WARNING
EARTH
This unit is connected via its power cord to the mains safety
earth. NEVER OPERATE THE UNIT WITH THIS EARTH
CONNECTION REMOVED.
COVERS
DO NOT remove the covers. Refer servicing to qualified
personnel only.
VOLTAGE
CAN‑D is set to operate at either 115 or 230 Volts, as set by the
fuse holder. .
FUSES
CHECK that the fuse fitted is of the correct type for the local
mains voltage. ALWAYS replace fuse with the correct type. For
230 Volts, use 100mA slow‑blow type. For 115 Volts, use 200mA
slow‑blow type.

Controls.
1. Delay Units
Selects the scale used to display the delay setting. Pressing the
button cycles through feet, meters and milliseconds. The current
format is indicated by its corresponding LED.
2. Headphone Outputs
6.35mm and 3.5mm jack outputs are available. These are
paralleled from a single output, so the connection of two pairs of
headphones will result in reduced level.
3. Delay Adjust
Adjust delay in increments based on the Delay Units setting.
4. Delay In/Out
Bypasses delay. When the delay is out, the screen will flash “OUT”
and show the delay time alternately.
MOISTURE
DO NOT expose the unit to rain or moisture. If your CAN‑D
should become so exposed REMOVE the mains power
immediately.
HEAT
ALWAYS site your CAN‑D away from sources of heat including
direct sunlight and ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.
Regulatory Compliance
This product complies with both the EMC Directive (89/336/
EEC) and the Low Voltage Directive (73/23/EEC) as issued by
the Commission of the European Community. Compliance with
these directives imply conformity with the following European
standards:
EN60065 Product safety
EN55103‑1 Electromagnetic Interference (Emission)
EN55103‑2 Electromagnetic Susceptibility (Immunity)
PROTECT YOUR EARS
Exposure to high sound pressure levels can
cause irreparable hearing damage. The
higher the level, the shorter the period of
exposure required to cause damage. Time
aligned headphones should allow you to turn
down your headphones by around 6dB and
receive better intelligibility. Practice safe sound
by turning down and, where possible, reducing
your exposure to high sound levels.

Headphones.
The level that you hear from your CAN‑D is dependent on the
impedance and sensitivity of your headphones. Because of the
broad variety of headphone impedances available, the level
may differ when connected directly to the source output or via
CAN‑D.
Headphones with a higher impedance will, in general, be quieter
than those with a low impedance. While CAN‑D will function
with headphones of any impedance, we would recommend
headphones with an impedance between 32Ω and 100Ω. This will
ensure that your console's volume control operates over a usable
range and will also provide the best signal to noise ratio.
When using low impedance headphones, you may need to alter
the gain within CAN‑D. To do this, see page 9 for information on
the Attenuation control.
5. Fuse Holder
The fuse holder also acts as a voltage selector, allowing your
CAN‑D to adapt to the local power conditions. As standard,
CAN‑D is set to operate at 230V and inverting the fuse holder will
select 115V operation.
6. Input
This 6.35mm stereo jack socket works in the usual stereo fashion
(Tip Left, Ring Right, Sleeve Common) and should be fed from
your console’s headphone output.
ATTENUATION
The impedance of your headphones will affect their level. As
clever as our boffins are, we cannot predict the impedance of the
cans you are about to use, consequently you may have to make
some small adjustments to your headphone output.
If you are using particularly low impedance headphones, it may
be necessary to attenuate the signal within CAN‑D to maintain
the usable range of your console's headphone volume control.
To do this, hold the Delay Units button until the screen flashes
the message “ATT” and a number alternately. This number is
the attenuation value, which varies from –1 to –80dB. You can
adjust this using the Delay Adjust buttons. To return to normal
operation, press the Delay Units button again.
If you’re using CAN‑D to feed a high impedance input, for example
on active loudspeakers, you should not need any attenuation as
CAN‑D will deliver unity gain from input to output.

Warranty.
Your LA Audio CAN‑D has been manufactured to a high standard
using quality components. If correctly installed and operated the
unit should give years of problem free operation.
However in the event of a defect in material or workmanship
causing failure of the unit within 1 year of the date of original
purchase we will agree to repair, or at our discretion replace,
any defective item without charge for labour or parts. To receive
service under this warranty it is necessary to return the unit to an
LA Audio authorised service centre or to the factory with a dated
receipt as proof of purchase. After repair the unit will be returned
to you free of charge.
Limitations:
This warranty does not cover damage resulting from accident
or misuse. The warranty is void unless repairs are carried out by
an authorised service centre. The warranty is void if the unit has
been modified other than at the manufacturers instruction. The
warranty does not cover components which have a limited life,
and which are expected to be periodically replaced for optimal
performance. We do not warrant that the unit shall operate in any
way other than as described in this manual.
