Introduction
This kit includes all you need to send HD content to up to 8 displays and control 4 HD sources. The matrix has 8
HDMI outputs and each HDMI output is mirrored with an RJ45/HDBT output which runs simultaneously to send
HD content over single CAT5e/6 cables as far as 70m at 4k Ultra HD resolution. It works with Blu-Ray players,
Set-Top boxes, Home Theater PCs, and game consoles that connect to an HDMI display. Any source is accessible at
all times by any display by selecting it via the supplied IR Remote Control, RS232, TCP/IP or by using the selection
buttons on the front panel. This device supports High Denition Audio, and 3D signal compatibility.

Panel Functions
Front Panel
1. LCD Screen: Displays information for each input and output setting and EDID management.
2. IR: IR sensor window (receives the remote control signal of this device only).
POWER: Press this button to power the device on/o. The LED will illuminate green when the power is on, red
when it is in‘Standby’ mode.
LOCK: Press this button to lock all the buttons on the panel, press again to unlock.

3. OUTPUT/INPUT: Press the OUTPUT and INPUT button to select the required output and corresponding input.
For example: Press OUPUT ALL>INPUT 1, all OUTPUTs A,B,C,D will be set to INPUT 1.
Press PTP button, OUTPUTs A,B,C,D will correspond to INPUTs 1,2,3,4.
4. EDID: Smart EDID management, the LCM will display the EDID operation. Press the MENU button to enter the
EDID management window, Press the UP or DOWN button to select the required EDID setting, then Press the
ENTER button to select the download input source. It can easy download any EDID mode to any input source.

EDID - Additional information
EDID allows the source to send only the resolutions and features that the connected display can handle.
A source device can only accept and read one EDID from a connected device/display. Likewise, the source an only
output one resolution for use by a connected device/display.
Why is EDID so important with the HDMI Matrix ?
The Matrix is complex piece of technology that replicates and switches between multiple inputs and outputs.
Each connected source device will require one EDID to read. EDID management is carefully handled by HDMI
Matrix to provide a single EDID for each source to read.
EDID Management options
It is important to note that each source device can only output one video/audio signal type. This includes
resolutions and timings. When multiple devices/displays are used it is important to use devices/displays that have
similar or compatible resolutions/features. This will ensure that the single video/audio signal produced by the
source device is accepted by all of the connected output devices/displays. The user has the option, through the
EDID management window, to choose how the unit will manage the EDID from multiple HDMI devices/displays.
Therefore the user has some control over the resolutions/features that the source devices will output. The HDMI
Matrix has multiple EDID management modes that will control how the EDID information from multiple devices/
displays are combined, ignored, and routed.
EDID Options for 4K sources output to multiple displays with dierent formats
If a source EDID is set to 4K output any non 4K (e.g. 1080p format) displays selected for output from this source will
show a blank screen. To view output on these screens you can use a Labgear HD2-CVHD1 down converter.

Back Panel
1. GND: Is used to Earth the housing.
2. IR Matrix, IR EXT: if IR sensor on the front panel is obstructed or the unit is installed in an enclosed area out of
infrared line of sight, one of the IR RX receivers supplied can be connected to the IR EXT socket on the back
panel to extend the IR sensor range and enable local control of the matrix. IR IN/OUT: Super IR control system
interface. For further details, please refer to the Super IR system control introduction.
3. PC CONTROL, TCP/IP: This port is the link for TCP/IP control, connect to an active Ethernet link with an RJ45
terminated cable. RS232: Connect to a PC or control system with D-Sub 9-pin cable supplied for the
transmission of RS-232 commands.
4. HDMI INPUT: Connects to the HDMI input source devices such as a DVD player or a Set-top Box via HDMI cable.
6. VIDEO & AUDIO OUTPUT: HDMI OUTPUTs are used to connect HD displays within 20m. HDBT OUTPUTs
connect to the HDBT Receivers. The coaxial and analog audio outputs connects to audio ampliers.
The TX and RX for RS232 communication with the HDBT Receiver TX and RX.
6. AC POWER INPUT: Connects to a mains socket using the AC power cord supplied.
Remote Control Functions
1. Press this button to switch on the matrix or to place it to standby mode.
2. Press these buttons to select output A,B,C,D for input 1,2,3,4 port.

As well as HD distribution you can also control the matrix and source
devices from display locations using the IR back channel function.
As the IR channels are two-way the displays can also be controlled
from the matrix location.
This is accomplished by placing a series of IR emitters on devices you
want to control and IR receivers at all locations you wish to control from.
This enables the IR signal to travel both ways via single Cat5e/6/7 cables.
1. At the matrix: Insert the 3.5mm jacks of the IR TX Emitters supplied
into the IR TX emitter ports at the rear of the matrix according to
input. The IR signal is added to the HDMI signal of the input device
so, for example, if the user is watching Blu-ray on input 1, the IR
signal will be directed through the IR TX1 socket to control the device.
As each IR TX port is allocated to an individual HDMI input port,
if you are unable to establish IR control of the device, rst check that
the IR emitter and HDMI input ports match (Input 1-TX1, Input 2-TX2
etc.) with plugs secured in the correct ports, secondly check that
the IR TX emitter sensors are rmly attached directly to the front of
the input device covering the infrared sensor window.
NOTE: The infra red receiving areas of devices can be located by
shining a torch on the front of the device. The sensor should be visible through the plastic as a small,
round object inside. Insert 3.5mm jacks of IR RX receivers into RX ports, making sure the receivers themselves are
placed in clear view to receive an infrared signal from the remote handset used to control the display outputs.
2. At the display location: Insert the IR RX receiver jack into the IR RX port of the display receiver balun, with the
receivers themselves placed in clear view on or near the displays to receive an infrared signal from the remote
handset used to control inputs. Insert the IR TX emitter jack into the IR TX port of the display receiver balun,
ensuring that the emitter sensor is securely attached to infrared sensor window of the display. Follow the same
connection and positioning for all baluns/displays connected to the matrix. If all IR TX Emitters and IR RX
Receivers are positioned and connected correctly with sources, displays and display receivers fully powered
and the matrix set to IR call-back enabled and IR TX switch mode activated, two-way IR will now be possible.
Note: Misplaced or poorly secured IR Emitters and Receivers may result in intermittent IR control signals passed to
and from the matrix. Check your placement and adjust if necessary.

IR Control system (IR Back channel to Matrix and Source Devices)
1. POWER: LED indicates receiver is powered.
2. DC 24V: Alternative power supply socket should not be required as receiver is powered by PoE from the matrix.
3. HDBaseT IN: Standard HDBaseT signal input port. Connect HDBaseT transmitter with a UTP cable.
4. HDMI OUT: HDMI output port. This slot is where you connect the HDTV or monitor with HDMI cable.
5. IR IN: Channel 1 IR Receiver. Connect with Wideband IR Rx.
6. IR OUT: Channel 2 IR Transmitter. Connect with Wideband IR Tx.
7. RS232: Phoenix jack provides Serial port control signal from a receiver or to a receiver.
8. Connection Signal Indicator LED:
On (continuously): Transmitter and Receiver have a stable/good connection.
Flashing: Transmitter and Receiver have a poor connection.
O: Transmitter and Receiver are not connected.
9. Data Signal Indicator LED
On: HDMI signal data and HDCP data is being received.
Flashing: The HDMI signal data only is being received.
O: No HDMI signal data is being received.

1. Connect up to 4 sources such as Blu-Ray Players, games consoles, Cable or Satellite Receivers, PVRs etc. to the
HDMI inputs on the unit. Do not hotplug! Connect and disconnect cables carefully with the power switch o.
Connecting and disconnecting while the unit is powered can result in damage to circuitry.
2. Connect the output HDBT ports, starting with output 1, to the HDBT receivers located near each display (using
well terminated or pre-terminated Cat5e/6/7 cables no longer than 70m/230 ft)
3. Connect the output HDMI ports of the HDBT receivers to HD displays such as HDTVs or HD projectors that use
HDMI inputs. Use high speed HDMI cables of the required length for each connection.

To make additional HDMI connections to more local displays connect output HDMI ports, starting with output 1,
to displays that use HDMI inputs. Use high speed HDMI cables of the required length for each connection.
5. Plug in IR transmitters to the back of the Matrix Selector Switcher unit (IR TX), the transmitters are labeled IR
TX, place in front of the IR receiver of the source, ensure that each emitter is placed in front of the IR receiver
sensor. Double-sided adhesive tape is provided to hold the sensor in place.
6. Plug the IR receivers into the IR IN port of the HDBT Receivers, the IR receivers are labeled IR RX, use the
double-sided adhesive tape supplied to stick the receiver sensors in a position close to each display so that
they will receive the remote control signal.
7. For power connections, plug in the source devices rst, followed by the Matrix unit (using the AC power cord
supplied), followed by the display receivers, followed by each display.
8. Power on each device in the same sequence.
PLEASE NOTE: The HDBT receivers are powered by the main matrix transmitter unit via the ethernet cables (POE).
No additional power connection is required.

IR All Output Port
Using an IR emitter connected to the IR All Output Port and IR receivers connected to the HDBT receivers you can
control a source device (e.g. DVD) from any of the connected displays using the source device remote.
GLOBAL IR function

Using an IR receiver connected to the IR All Input Port and IR emitters connected to the HDBT receivers you can
control all displays simultaneously as shown in the example below.

Bidirectional RS232 control function
In example 2 below, the PCs or control systems connected to the receiver sends RS-232 signals to control other
HDMI Matrixes.
The matrix system provides 4 channels with RS232 pass through functions, which can be used to control attached
equipment. In example 1 below, the PCs or control system connected to the matrix unit send RS-232 signals to
control the projector via the HDBT receiver unit.
