Tea h olor and size re ognition with this set of 16 ards
featuring 30 full- olor patterns. These ards were designed
for use with the Three Bear Family® Counters in four olors
(LER 0725).
Introduction
As hildren manipulate bears to reprodu e patterns on ards,
they exer ise visual and fine motor skills. The development
of visual/motor integration skills is vital to su ess in many
urri ular areas. These pattern ards also provide pra ti e in
color recognition and pattern sequencing. The a tivities are
presented in four levels of diffi ulty (1 being the easiest and
4 being the most hallenging) indi ated by the paw print in
the upper right hand orner of ea h ard.

Early a tivities require hildren to over and omplete a
pattern by pla ing the orre t bear in the missing square.
Some pattern ards require hildren to over a given pattern
and ontinue the pattern on their own. This is indi ated by
three dots at the end of the pattern. On the size re ognition
ards, the square is outlined in the olor of the missing bear.
The hild must determine what size of that olor bear fits the
pattern best.
How to U e the Card
Children should always work from left to right to strengthen
left-to-right reading orientation. To begin, pla e a ard on an
empty workspa e with the Three Bear Family®Counters.
Invite the hild to use the bear ounters to over the pattern
presented, starting from the left and working toward the right.
En ourage the hild to name the bear’s size and olor before
lo ating the mat hing manipulative, and repeat them again
as he/she pla es the bear on the ard. If an a tivity alls for
a hild to ontinue or fill in the pattern, review the pattern
he/she has ompleted. Then ask the hild what omes next,
based on the pattern in front of them. If the hild annot say
what omes next, en ourage him/her to over the remainder
of the pattern. Then review what has been overed, and ask
the hild what belongs in the square. Always review the
ompleted pattern to prepare for higher levels.
