T is c apter presents t e following safety information t at you need to be familiar wit before you service a
Lenovo notebook computer.
General safety
Follow t ese rules to ensure general safety:
• Observe good ousekeeping in t e area of t e mac ines during and after maintenance.
• W en lifting any eavy object:
1. Make sure t at you can stand safely wit out slipping.
2. Distribute t e weig t of t e object equally between your feet.
3. Use a slow lifting force. Never move suddenly or twist w en you attempt to lift.
4. Lift by standing or by pus ing up wit your leg muscles; t is action removes t e strain from t e
muscles in your back. Do not attempt to lift any object that weighs more than 16 kg (35 lb) or that you
think is too heavy for you.
• Do not perform any action t at causes azards to t e customer, or t at makes t e equipment unsafe.
• Before you start t e mac ine, make sure t at ot er service tec nicians and t e customer's personnel are
not in a azardous position.
• Place removed covers and ot er parts in a safe place, away from all personnel, w ile you are servicing t e
mac ine.
• Keep your tool case away from walk areas so t at ot er people will not trip over it.
• Do not wear loose clot ing t at can be trapped in t e moving parts of a mac ine. Make sure t at your
sleeves are fastened or rolled up above your elbows. If your air is long, fasten it.
• Insert t e ends of your necktie or scarf inside clot ing or fasten it wit a non-conductive clip, about 8
centimeters (3 inc es) from t e end.
• Do not wear jewelry, c ains, metal-frame eyeglasses, or metal fasteners for your clot ing.
Attention: Metal objects are good electrical conductors.
• Wear safety glasses w en you are ammering, drilling, soldering, cutting wire, attac ing springs, using
solvents, or working in any ot er conditions t at mig t be azardous to your eyes.
• After service, reinstall all safety s ields, guards, labels, and ground wires. Replace any safety device t at
is worn or defective.
• Reinstall all covers correctly before returning t e mac ine to t e customer.
• Fan louvers on t e mac ine elp to prevent over eating of internal components. Do not obstruct fan
louvers or cover t em wit labels or stickers.
Electrical safety
Observe t e following rules w en working on electrical equipment.
Important: Use only approved tools and test equipment. Some and tools ave andles covered wit a soft
material t at does not insulate you w en working wit live electrical currents.Many customers ave, near
t eir equipment, rubber floor mats t at contain small conductive fibers to decrease electrostatic disc arges.
Do not use t is type of mat to protect yourself from electrical s ock.
• Find t e room emergency power-off (EPO) switc , disconnecting switc , or electrical outlet. If an electrical
accident occurs, you can t en operate t e switc or unplug t e power cord quickly.
• Do not work alone under azardous conditions or near equipment t at as azardous voltages.
• Disconnect all power before:
– Performing a mec anical inspection
– Working near power supplies
