The LexmarkTM MarkNet N7000e Series Print Server makes it easy for you to:
•Share your printer between two or more network computers.
•Locate your printer anywhere in your home or office.
You no longer need to locate the printer next to a host computer or make sure a host
computer is powered on before sending your print job from a remote location.
•Transfer information quickly.

Requirements
For setup, you need:
•The Lexmark MarkNet N7000e Series Print Server
•An existing Ethernet (10/100 Base TX) network
•An Ethernet (RJ-45, category 5) cable, purchased separately
•A network-capable printer
To find out if your printer is network-capable, or for other printer-specific information, refer to
the documentation that came with your printer or visit our Web site at:
http://support.lexmark.com.
•The printer software CD that came with your printer
•A computer that meets the following criteria:
–Mac OS X operating system
–A CD-ROM drive
–Connected to the network
–TCP/IP active and running
Connecting the hardware
Follow all of the steps on the Setup Guide that came with your print server.

Understanding the print server LCD, buttons, and indicator lights
LCD
The printer type(s) will appear on the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), and you can use the left or right
navigation buttons to scroll to a Menu option. If your print server is a four-port model, the LCD
displays the printer model that is connected to each port.
When the network link is not established, the backlight will blink.
Printer status messages are also displayed on the LCD, including:
•No Network Connection
•Ready
•Paper Jam
•Busy
Buttons
Back ( )
This button allows users to go back one level in the menu. When you press , changes made in a
screen (such as scrolling through setting values) are not applied. Holding down for 1 second
returns you to either the top level of the menu toggle sequence, if menus are being navigated, or to
the root of the media drive, if a drive is being browsed.
Select ( )
This button lets you:
•Follow a link
•Submit a configuration item
•Submit a job (from a media drive)
Pressing from a Device Status screen takes you to the Menu home screen. Pressing from a
Media Drive screen opens the drive for browsing.
Left/Right Navigation ( )
This buttons let you navigate within the screens. Use and to scroll through the printer status
screens and to navigate within the administration menus.
Indicator lights
The network indicator lights are located on the network port on the back of the print server.
Event Lighting
Network link is established. One indicator light is solid on.
There is receive traffic on the network. One indicator light is blinking.
There is no network link. Both indicator lights are off.

The LCD is not on
If the LCD backlight is not illuminated after the power supply cord is plugged into an electrical outlet,
make sure:
•The power supply is properly connected to the print server and the electrical outlet.
•There is no problem with the electrical outlet.
Note: The LCD backlight wil turn itself off during periods of inactivity.
The network indicator lights are off
When the network indicator lights are off, there is no network link.
Note: For more information about network indicator lights, see page 5.
The print server was not automatically discovered
1Make sure the print server and the computer are on the same subnet.
2Launch Safari.
3From the Safari menu bar, click Safari ÆPreferences.
4Select Bookmarks.
5From the Bookmarks Bar and Bookmarks Menu, select Include Rendezvous or Include
Bonjour.
6Close the Bookmarks window.
7From the Safari menu bar, click Bookmarks.
8Click Rendezvous or Bonjour, and then double-click the print server and printer.
9Click the Configuration tab.
10 Enter the appropriate network settings.
11 Click Submit.

Troubleshooting

The network printer does not print
•Make sure all cables to the printer, print server, electrical outlet, and network connection are
secure.
•Make sure the network indicator lights are on.
•Check the printer status. For more information see page 11.
•Make sure the network is operating properly.
Refer to your network documentation or contact your system support person.
•Make sure the printer software is installed on the computer from which you are sending the
print job.
Note: You must install the printer software on each computer that uses the network
printer.
•Restart the computer.
•Make sure there is no problem with the printer itself.
1Disconnect the printer from the printer server.
2Attach the printer directly to your computer with a USB cable or parallel cable.
If you are able to print when the printer is directly attached, there may be a problem with your
network. Refer to your network documentation or contact your system support person.
•Reinstall the printer software.
If the printer still does not print, refer to your printer documentation for help.

Print a print server setup page
The setup page lists the network settings, such as the IP address, Netmask, Gateway, DHCP status,
and so on.
To print a print server setup page, do one of the following:
From the print server operator panel:
1Press until Menu appears, and then press .
2Press until Reports appears, and then press .
3Press until Setup page appears, and then press .
Note: If your print server is a four-port model, use the navigation buttons to scroll to the
desired port.
From the Finder window:
1Launch Safari.
2From the Safari menu, choose Preferences.
3Select Bookmarks.
4From the Bookmarks Bar and Bookmarks Menu, select Include Rendezvous or Include
Bonjour.
5Close the Bookmarks window.
6From the Safari menu bar, click Bookmarks.
7Click Rendezvous or Bonjour, and then double-click the print server and printer.
8Click Reports.
9Click Print Server Setup Page.
10 Click File ÆPrint.
If you already know the print server IP address:
1Launch Safari.
2Enter the IP address of the print server as the URL.
3Click Reports.
4Click Print Server Setup Page.
5Click File ÆPrint.
