INSTALLING THE BATTERIES & CAMERA ON/OFF
1. The Battery Door 1is located at the back of the camera. Open by sliding it to
the right.
2. Install two CR2 batteries (2 × 3 V) into the battery chamber and close the
Battery Door 1.
3. Turn the camera on by turning the Focusing Ring 12 to any focusing distance
besides “Off”. You will see the Shooting Mode Indication Light 18 and Flash
Indication Light 10 light up.
4. To turn the camera off, press the Lens Closure Lock 23, turn the Focusing
Ring 12 all the way to the “Off” position.
BATTERY INDICATION
Camera battery condition is indicated by the Shooting Mode Indication Light 18:
e Solid indication light on: The battery condition is normal and the camera is
ready to shoot.
e Indication light blinking: The batteries are low and need to be changed.
LOADING THE FILM
Open the Camera Back Door 4by pressing down the on Back Door Lock 5. Install
a fresh pack of Fujifilm Instax Mini film into the film chamber. Make sure that the
Yellow Mark 6inside the film chamber matches the yellow mark on the film pack.
Close the Camera Back Door 4.

Turn the camera on by turning the Focusing Ring 12 to any focusing distance
besides “Off”, the Film Counter Indication LED 3will blink slowly. Press the
Shutter Release Button/Self–Portrait Mirror 7once to eject the dark slide of your
new film pack. Please make sure not to block the Film Ejection Slot 8whilst the
dark slide is ejecting. The Film Counter Indication LED 3will light up. The camera
is now ready for shooting.
SHOOTING MODES
The Lomo’Instant Automat has two different shooting modes. You can easily
select your preferred shooting mode by pressing the Shooting Mode Button 2.
Auto Shooting Mode
When the camera is on, it’s set to Auto Shooting Mode by default, you will
get perfectly exposed photos in any situation. The Lomo’Instant Automat
determines aperture and shutterspeed automatically (and autoflash output
if flash is on) forperfect exposures.This is the simplest shooting mode to use
at all hours of the day and night!
Bulb Mode
The Lomo’Instant Automat aperture value is f/4.5 by default, so Bulb Mode is
perfect forshooting long exposures, night time shots and light painting pics!
When Bulb Mode is selected, the Lomo’Instant Automat will be set at B
shutter until Auto Shooting Mode is selected again. The shutter will remain

open for up to 30 seconds or as long as the Shutter Release Button /
Self–Portrait Mirror 7is pressed. If you want to expose for longer than 30
seconds, you can use the multiple exposure function to expose the same
film multiple times to accumulate exposure time. (For multiple exposures,
please see chapter below.)
AUTO OFF FUNCTION
Regardless of which shooting mode is selected, the Lomo’Instant Automat will
automatically switch off after 5 minutes of inactivity in order to save battery
power. To reactivate the camera, simply press any button on the Lomo’Instant
Automat.
FLASH ON/OFF BUTTON
When the camera is turned on, the flash is “On” by default. This means every time
you switch your camera on, the flash will automatically be “On”. If you want to
shoot without flash, press the Flash On/Off Button 9once and the built–in flash
will be switched off until the camera is turned off, or you press the Flash On/Off
Button 9again.
There is a Flash indication light 10 next to the Flash On/ Off Button 9:
e Green light on: The flash is fully charged and ready to shoot
e Red light on: The flash is recharging

e No light on: The flash is “Off” and the camera will automatically expose
according to ambient light in Auto Shooting Mode
SHOOTING PHOTOS
When your film is properly installed and you have selected your shooting mode,
you are ready to shoot! Here’s how to make the instant magic happen:
1. Turn the camera on by turning the Focusing Ring 12 to any focusing distance
besides “Off” and remove the lens cap.
2. Determine your subject’s distance and set the appropriate Zone Focusing
Setting to 0.6 m / 1–2 m / infinite, by turning the Focusing Ring 12.
3. Look through the Viewfinder 13 and compose your photo. If the focus is set
to 1–2 m or infinite, everything that you can see through the viewfinder will
be in your photo. If you are shooting with the focus set to 0.6 m, you will
need to use the Close–Up Frame Guide 24 to compose your shot as only
the things within the area indicated will be in your photo. Press the Shutter
Release Button / Self–Portrait Mirror 7to take a photo and the film will
automatically be ejected.
4. Now wait for the photo to develop before your eyes!
FILM COUNTER
The Film Counter Indication LED 3in front of the Film Ejection Slot 8indicates
how many frames you have remaining in a film pack.

Film Counter Indication LED 3display index as below:
e No light on: Camera is “Off” or no film pack is installed.
e Indication light blinking slowly: Alert for dark slide, press the Shutter
Release Button / Self–Portrait Mirror 7to eject the dark slide of the new film
pack, then you are ready to shoot.
e Solid indication light on: Film pack is installed and you are ready to shoot.
Number of LED lights indicates the amount of frames remaining.
e Indication light blinking quickly: Alert for empty film pack, please install a
new pack of film.
EXPOSURE COMPENSATION
There is an Exposure Compensation Button 14 above the Shooting Mode Button
2, which allows you to override the ambient exposure while the camera is in
Auto Shooting Mode. Press the Exposure Compensation Button 14 once and
see the “+1” Exposure Compensation light 19 light up if you want the image to
be brighter, or press again to see the “–1” Exposure Compensation light 19 light
up if you want the image to be darker. To turn off the exposure compensation
function, press the Exposure Compensation Button 14 again and you will see the
Exposure Compensation light 19 turn off, auto exposure will be correct in general
situations.
Note: Exposure Compensation is only applicable for Auto Shooting Mode, not for
Bulb mode.

COLORED GEL FILTERS
There are four colored gel filters included in the Lomo’Instant Automat package.
Insert colored gel filters in the Colored Gel Filter Slot 15 in front of the flash to
produce different color effects.
MULTIPLE EXPOSURES
With the Lomo’Instant Automat you can shoot unlimited multiple exposures! To
use this coolfunction, first press the MX Button 16 once to activate the MX Mode.
There is a MX Mode Indication Light 17 next to the MX Button 16. When the MX
Mode is on, the orange MX Mode Indication Light 17 will light up. Then expose the
film as many times as you desire. Once you have shot your last exposure, press
the MX Button 16 again to eject the film.
SELFPORTRAIT MIRROR
The Lomo’InstantAutomat includes a little convex Self–Portrait Mirrorintegrated
into the ShutterRelease Button 7to make it easierto compose your self–portrait
shots.
FILTER THREAD
The Lomo’Instant Automat includes a 43 mm standard Filter Thread 20 in front
of the camera lens to apply any kind of filters and lens attachments with a 43
mm filter thread.

TRIPOD THREAD
The Lomo’InstantAutomat comes with a standard ¼"tripod thread. To mount the
camera on a tripod, simply screwthe tripod screw into the Tripod Thread 21 at the
bottom of the camera.
REMOTE CONTROL LENS CAP
The lens cap of Lomo’Instant Automat functions as a remote shutter release
via infrared transmission. There are two buttons on the remote lens cap, one
for Auto Shooting Mode and one for Bulb Mode. To use the remote shutter
release function, point the Infrared Transmitter rc1 of the Remote Control Lens
Cap towards the Remote Control Front Receiver rc5 or Remote Control Back
Receiver rc6 and simply press the the respective button on the lens cap for the
desired shooting mode.
e INSTANT Button rc2:in Auto Shooting Mode press the INSTANT Button rc2
for normal shutter release.
e TIME Button rc3: in Bulb Mode, press the TIME Button rc3 once to open the
camera shutter for exposure, then press the button once more to close the
camera shutter for the end of exposure. The maximum shutter speed in Bulb
mode is 30 seconds. If you want to expose longer than 30 seconds, you may
use the multiple exposure function to expose the same film multiple times to
accumulate exposure time. (For multiple exposures, please see chapter above.)

To change the batteries ofthe Remote Control Lens Cap, simply open the Battery
Door rc4 at the bottom of the Remote Control Lens Cap by sliding it. Then install
one CR1632 battery (3 V) and close the Battery Door rc4.
TROUBLESHOOTING
qThe camera is functioning but the film does not eject after the Shutter
Release Button / Self–Portrait Mirror 7is pressed.
aPlease check the following:
e Make sure that the camera is turned on and focus is set to either 0.6 m,
/ 1–2 m / infinite.
e Make sure there is film installed in the camera.
e Check the Film Counter Indication LED 3, ifthe lights are blinking quickly
then your film has come to an end and needs to be replaced.
e Check whetherthe MX Mode Indication Light 17 above the MX Button 16
is on. If it is, that means you are in the MX Mode. Press the MX Button 16
again to switch off the MX Mode.
e Look at the Shooting Mode Indication Light 18 to check the battery
power, if it’s blinking, it’s time to change the batteries.
qThe automatic exposure seems to be incorrect, my subject is under– or
overexposed.

aCheck whether there is anything blocking the Light Sensor 22 or Flash Light
Sensor 11, then check whether the camera is correctly set to Auto Shooting
Mode. The ambient exposure value and auto flash output may also be
affected by strong backlight or a highly reflective background such as snow.
If your subject is too dark, set the Exposure Compensation Button 14 to “+1”
and shoot again. Ifyour subject is too bright, set the Exposure Compensation
Button 14 to “–1”.

Your Lomo’Instant Automat has a 2–year warranty against any manufacturer
defects. In the event of a defect, the Lomographic Society will repair or replace
the item at our discretion. For the warranty service, please contact your closest
Lomographic Office.
